Ned's Declassified School Survival Guides is one of the more memorable nickelodeon shows and maybe close to the best. The best Ned's Declassified episodes all share a few things in common with each other and it shows. While most people probably remember the intro, there was a lot more to this series than a song. This is meant to break down the best Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide episode, first day.

@★ Froggie Animation ★ Drake and Josh was a typical sitcom. With some pretty good acting, to be sure (D&J were, arguably, noticeably better actors than the NDSSG main gang), but it didn't reaaly bring much to the table when it came to plots, dialogue, or narrative style. NDSSG, on the other hand, was wonderfully weird, original and had superb worldbuilding, it was almost like a children's Community in some ways.

One thing that always fascinated me about the show was how the teachers were portrayed. Even the most sadistic ones had something of a J. Jonah Jameson quality to them that showed there was usually more to them than Ned thought. Like you had Mr. Sweeney who would seem to take great joy in making Ned suffer but it was mostly because he knew Ned was smarter than his grades showed and mostly just wanted him to study harder. Even the vice principal who on the surface was just another maniacal authority figure you would expect to see from a lesser Nick show still had a couple good episodes. Like when he showed mercy on Lisa Zemo for destroying school property because it was her first offense and he admitted she did it for a decent reason (to get rid of old school supplies in dire need of replacements). There was also the time he admitted to Ned the reason he became a Vice Principal was because he used to be a cop and he decided to switch careers in an effort to reach kids before they end up like the people he put away as an officer.

yes. i remember those moments. even when they used them as antagonists (like thevice principal when he tried to became principal, or when he wanted his donuts in the vending machines), they were enjoyable. i still loved when mr. sweeney essentially tricked ned into just studying for an exam with the myth of a golden notebook because he knewthat, if he had just told ned to study, he would have seen it as a homework and would have just ditched it. or that epic moment when ned got around having to do like 4 extra credit projects for 4 different subjects by creating 1 that was applicable to all 4 of them (it involved a pyramid as far as i remember). and even the teachers eventually accepted it for the loophole that it was
@DarthNoox
@DarthNoox 4 жыл бұрын
Derek Johns Honestly looking back at it, the Mr Sweeney was definitely a great teacher. First thing that popped into mind when hearing his name was how one time they had to make molecular structures and Ned messed around and got an F, but when he actually put in effort he got something like a D or C and a smile from Sweeney. And in terms of the Vice Principal I really loved him as a character, not only was he fun and to this day I at times pretend being him when taking off my glasses, but he showed understanding and compassion despite the more rough exterior you would often see. And the fact that he changed his career to help kids before it is too late just goes to show how amazing he was as a character.

@@aroccoification Gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that. Fairly Oddparents, Billy and Many, Powerpuff Girls, Ed Edd and Eddy, Codename: Kids Next Door, Drake and Josh, Invader Zim, Spongebob, Courage the Courage Dog, iCarly. They all had several talented pouring their hearts into a product that they themselves cared about and wanted others to experience. They had memorable characters and were cleverly written. If you go back even today to most Courage the Cowardly Dog episodes, you'll find that they really hold up. A lot of kids shows were just visual white noise; a moving image to keep your brats busy for half an hour or so, but these shows I've mentioned broke the mold and attempted to actually be something entertaining and WORTH watching.

@@aroccoification Let me ask you a fucking question, because I'm all but tired of being civil about it at this point. What about something being "nostalgic" immediately invalidates everything about it? I hear it all the time as a cheap way to brush things off. "You don't really like that game, it's just nostalgia." "That show is trash, you just have nostalgia goggles." A lot of nostalgic things still hold up today. Definitely not in how they're presented (graphics and sound and such), but the true value of what they bring to the table. That's what holds up; the feeling, the passion. And you can't kill that passion. So why is it that "nostalgia" carries such a negative connotation to a lot of people? That is a genuine question from me to you. Anyway, I'm going to bed now. Have a lovely day.

@@aroccoification I disagree. The point is, there are a lot more factors other than nostalgia. And you can't just sign off every old show just cause they're old. @@gbpdrum45 the procrastination tip wear Ned and Moes make a bet to see who can finish the project on time because she sees that Ned isn't working on his project. He works on the Japanese theme for his project and Moses project is clogging. In with doing his project he gives us tips on how to not procrastinate till the final minute and how to use it to our advantage. Because of Ned giving the tips on how to not procrastinate and use it for you, in the end, Mose loses the BET and has to dress up like a clown like thing with a plunger in her hand and dance in front of the whole school in the weird to get up. I used the tips from that episode everyday when I need to finish doing a project or task that is big.

@thegameguy8957
@thegameguy8957 5 жыл бұрын
@@starprincessjolie the tips were, If you're having trouble starting your project and you're putting it off because it seems big, try separating it into smaller activities that you can do. (taking from the show) in Ned's case, he had to do a report about Japan. So he watched a Japanese kung fu movie and studied it, he made Sushi and learned how that was made, he made a popsicle stick figure of a Japanese Samurai and he wrote the report. He broke it up into smaller pieces. So it didn't seem like a huge project he had to get done, it was a bunch of smaller tasks that he did to get the bigger picture of what he needed done while doing the fun stuff mixed in with his other stuff.

Man I miss this show, it reminds me of Disney’s Recess, with how every character has their own characteristic in the show. I miss the wiesel, backpack boy, coconut head, the science teacher? And janitor Gordon? I wish I had remember this guide when I went to high school. I saw this when I was in elementary and never thought about how this could possibly benefit my life. But hey you learn along the way that’s life. And that’s how the rules were added to the guide. If I remember right, there were even some episodes that talked about old passes in the guide. But still Wiesel best mom in the show.

The one episode I'll always remember is the one where there was a kid who was super negative, so Ned tried to find a friend that could make them happy. By the end, that kid found another "negative" person and they got along really well. It's not something a kid would register as anything important, but I can't think of many other kids shows that teach a lesson about not forcing relationships.

Whenever I watch Ned's Declassified, it always takes me back to the early 2000's and reminds me of how great and interesting the times were most of the time. My point is, there's absolutely NO WAY this show would have worked in the 2010's if it were created in say 2014, instead of 2004. The popculture references, and cool tech for the time just make it work. This show is a time capsule of the early 2000's and I'm greatful I grew up with it.

I remember liking Ned's way more than the other live-action stuff on Nick, which at that time was mostly Schneider shows. While practically all of them were goofy and silly, Ned's felt like it had a sense of sincerity to it. It felt like it was made by goofballs who were naturally goofy and funny, while shows like Drake and Josh felt like it was made by schmucks who were trying to be goofy and funny (which often resulted in a lot more groans than laughs). I also like that Ned's knew when to end; it showed the characters' journey through Middle School and ended when they graduated. In that way, I think it had the perfect run. While I might not go back to watch it like I do other shows from that era, it was very enjoyable for me at the time and still had a charm to it today.

I love Ned's Declassified a lot of what this show taught me it actually stuck with me and it taught amazing lessons and helped mold me into who I am. There was one episode where it talked about different cliques and at the end it said you might not be popular but you can be in your own group of friends. The lesson was just find a group of friends that you like hanging out. It really doesn't matter who your friends with as long as you are happy being friends with them and you are all nice to each other. Because of that episode I never cared if I was popular or not I just wanted to be in a group that I fit into to and that I enjoy being a part of.
