Yet, American corporations (Etsy, Ebay, Amazon, etc.) don't promote American brands or do anything so that American brands can have the upper hand on American platforms.

Temu literally steals photos & designs from small businesses & sells cheap knock offs. They literally stole my designs, my photos (even the ones with ME in it modeling my product) & my description & made cheap reproductions of them (they did the exact same thing to TONS of other small businesses & bigger ones like tractor supply as well). These were handmade products made by me so I will never give any of those companies a penny of my money!

I'm so sorry that happened to you! You're not alone. I've heard so many stories. I wish some of us designers could get together and lobby or even sue the US government in order to force them to give this issue due attention and lay down protective international ecommerce laws for us.

@@annahappen7036 me too! I contacted a lawyer & sent them a cease & desist letter but it did no good. They are a Chinese company based out of the Cayman iIslands but claim to be based out of Boston. Seems like no one can do anything to touch them. You’d think a company like tractor supply would have more luck than small businesses like myself but they don’t.

As long as people want and continue to purchase cheap, mass produced products, these platforms will win. Unfortunately, because inflation is just out of control, the only option for a lot of people is the cheapest option.

Very true. Although it's nice to think more competition doesn't matter, the products flooding marketplaces that is happening is real.

@@ElysianWorkshop You're right, and it always amazes me how many small businesses continue to make it despite the amount of options out there. There are definitely enough people in the world to support success. The biggest challenge (IMO) is creating something that people like, and having the funds to advertise. Without ad spend, I think it's that much harder.

No, no and no. I also believe that Etsy isn't going to survive in it's current state, if they keep going down the path they are on. Their customer service is non-existent, their fees will continue to rise and the P.O.D. products offered will continue to overshadow the hand-made products which is what made them special. I believe the "traffic numbers" are inflated by bots and by other Etsy sellers looking to see what others are offering.

I try not to let this stress me out as a business owner because at the end of the day, just like the other comment says, the customer gets what they pay for. There's always going to be cheap customers & customers that want to invest in quality & brands. So yes, it makes it more competitive, but that's why I'll be building an even stronger Ecom brand. I also look at this from both sides, as a consumer & entrepreneur. As a consumer, I completely avoid fast fashion, Temu, Aliexpress etc. Everything I buy is an investment these days & I want quality & brands I like. That's never going to go out of style.

Amazon and Etsy are full of Aliexpress Resellers or Vendors. Why would people not want to go to the source if it's the same product. And often you can't tell counterfeit products apart on these platforms.

You’re paying for convenience, you probably fall victim all the time without even knowing. Most people don’t go around price comparing on different sites unless it’s a big purchase.

I ordered from Ali express - to sell on Etsy, however the product I received wasn't something I'd want to use. Quality was poor and not as good as I wanted to be. Very disappointed. I actually recently gave away the items because I never found a use for them.

Let's be honest, Etsy's customer support sucks. If someone can come along and offer better customer service, then maybe Etsy will wake the hell up.

What else is new? It would be a smart move if they sold on Amazon business to business and get Amazon to guarantee delivery of goods. There already are so many Chinese Vendors selling on Amazon, Etsy and Ebay.

I refuse to use or buy from either, even Shein. If unknowingly bought something from them, that sucks, but I believe in "you get what you pay for".

I haven't found very many things from China that I liked enough to buy more than once. Most of the time I wish I hadn't wasted my money because it's basically junk you could buy at the dollar store. And good luck getting your money back.

Etsy sellers need to concentrate on getting back to producing unique handmade items instead of copying each other. The real artisans will not be hurt by this...they are what look for to buy from. Handmade original items...Handmade custom items. I pay extra for that. I am an artist myself and I appreciate the work that goes into a piece. Really the ridiculous gurus that tell everyone to copy best sellers...they are the real ruination of Etsy

I buy a fair amount on Temu for grandkids. Basically gifts for kids. Meaning cheap toys or clothes. for Xmas stockings Easter baskets etc. it’s good for that stuff. The clothing is not made well. It’s constructed correctly. But the colors fade fast, the images on the shirts are done with the cheap rubbery decals elastic in waist bands rolls and twists after first wash . So the outfits are good to wear like for a holiday for instance a Turkey outfit on Thanksgiving on last day of school before the holiday break )after that it becomes play clothes. But never looks good after the 2 or 3 wash 😮 The quality is ok on some things. Some things I tossed out. It’s good for some craft supplies I am a crafter since 1991. Nothing I have purchased matches the quality of American made crafters. ( makers) whatever. Bottom line. It’s dollar store quality. Buyer be ware.

Sir 99.9 % etsy sellers dropshipping from Aliexpress, if the news are real … Sorry to say Etsy as handmade platform is falling & wont be abele to resist!!! Until to be more fixable with their rules
