Covering 360 acres, the Ivry Confluences project located in France in the Paris region, is part of the process of reclaiming Seine valley’s brownfields. It offers 13 lots for family use plus one common to all residents. Dealing with urban concentration and terraced housing, it invites us to define the organization of a hybrid habitat mode, mixing private and collective spheres.
A real counterweight to urban density, this concept of grouped participatory habitats brings together families living according to common ethical, social and environmental values who pooled their resources to build and finance their housing together within the same plot.
The topic of light has been the main challenge of our “Breakthrough” project caught between two poured earth walls built on a narrow plot.
The habitat is organized around a central garden, a true meeting point bathed in natural light, relationships between the inside and the outside are thus made easier as well as the flow of light.
Bi-fold openings and movable partitions create an open, transversal, modular, scalable habitat adapting to the family needs. The clear space with high ceilings, textured with beige lime, appears pierced with light and warmth. Movable louvers regulate the supply of light and heat to the home.
All materials have been carefully selected in line with sustainable design ethics.
In addition, the permeability of the land is preserved by a reduced footprint that only concerns the poured earth walls.
