haggisa completely agree that purity culture leads to victim blaming. I’m not very religious or traditional myself but my community (South Asian) is vv religious and conservative and they place so much emphasis on girls especially to be ‘pure’- some even think periods make a girl/woman ‘impure’, they hold young girls and woman accountable for keeping the ‘family honour’ and always use it as an excuse to hold down/ blackmail their daughters. I know girls whose parents won’t even let them leave the house just to go to the library, never mind talk to a boy their age but at the same time they let boys do and go wherever they want.

there was this anime that I really liked until they ended up having this trope. they set up the perfect situation for a lesbian couple (meaning the girl literally confessed their love for the other) and completely scrapped it the next episode, but they were completely fine making a girl be in love with her brother. apparently being gay is unacceptable, but incest isnt. One of my pet peeves is guys who act like they have ownership over girls in their lives. It's not cute for him to get mad at them holding hands. In the same wave it's not a cute fatherly thing for Dads to threaten daughters girlfriends. It has this underlying idea that men perceive the women in their lives as weak. The only time you should be stepping in is if a relationship is toxic or abusive, not a boy holding your sisters hand.
