I get so pissed listening to ESPN giving Riley credit for all of Stoops recruits. Someone not from Oklahoma would think our success has been due to Rileys QB recruiting and training. Maybe I'm a little slow but I believe it was Stoops that brought in National Champion QB, Josh Heupel, Jason White, Sam Bradford, Landry Jones, Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. Those last 2 did not transfer into OU to play for Riley. Riley was the recipient of and got credit for all Stoops success. IMO Lincoln Riley was handed the #1 team in the nation for 2 years and lost every playoff game.

I love that Stoops still has an active role with the team and that he still says "we" and "us" when talking about OU football. He could've easily retired and just disappeared, but he's chosen to stick around and actively promote and represent the University of Oklahoma.

I moved my young family to Oklahoma in July of 99 from Alabama where I learned to enjoy college football. When I informed my friends of my move to Oklahoma they were all excited and explained that I was about to see some big time college football. Filling me in on the new staff and details I was not aware of. I was not overly excited about the move lots of worries and concerns. My wife was finishing up her degree here at OU. Times were tight. We decided to take our young daughter down to campus and just see how the atmosphere during game day was. Indiana was the game. Never have I witnessed such a massive crowd in one area. That first season was something else for me to witness. That Notre Dame game!!!! That was the game for me. I began to really love being in Oklahoma. I told everyone after that Notre Dame game, “OU is playing national championship level football, all there is left is some conditioning.” I don’t know if anyone believed me or not. My wife and I drive down to campus and picked up her class schedule for the start of her last year’s semester. I messed around on campus looking for a football schedule. When I looked at that schedule all I thought was Wow!! What a crucible of a season this team has ahead of them. My wife and I sat down for lunch and I showed her that game schedule. She asked what I thought. My statement,” If this team wins out they’re the National Champions.” I had no idea the level of football I was about to witness. This was the year Oklahoma became my home. We grew so attached to all of the game time drama and excitement. Our young family had very little no room for extras. Paycheck to paycheck. Looking back we struggled, but we didn’t feel not one bit of it watching that 2000 team facing their struggles. It was sheer excitement! The company I worked for gave my family tickets to watch OU play Texas Tech that year. All the Oranges being thrown on the field was confusing to me. My young family thrived in those trying times. I’m proud of these 24 years spent here at our home. I even grew into one of those spoiled fans with expectations. My Alabama friends told me so when visiting with them in those early years. These changes over the last several years have been trying and educating. We’re all lucky to witness them none the less. I hoped for a good showing at the Red River Rivalry. This years team is so much fun to watch. That first defensive series was like watching a team of land sharks clamping down and biting. It was electrifying to witness. It is so much fun for me as a fan to live week by week and to hear these coaches and players remain with that ideology of never being satisfied and always search and work for improvement. I’ll thank each and very one of them for their hard work to bring such tremendous color into our lives. Boomer Sooner!

I met Brent Venables when I officiated Austin Box's funeral service. Brent was OU's linebacker coach at the time under Coach Stoops. Brent's emotions, passion, humility, and love for his players were remarkable. I left a private meeting with Brent (talking about his relationship with Austin), and I told my wife, "Brent Venables will one day be head coach at Oklahoma." True story. I don't know how coaches are hired or the politics involved, but I could see in Brent a human quality that makes men great leaders. We are blessed to have BV at OU.

All of us shoved into one corner of the stadium. Turned out it went down in Sooner lore as one of the great games with Torrance's int and score to pull us out of the hole and win the game 35-31. Best show yet. Excellent. When everybody was calling for BV's head last year, I knew what he was trying to develop, a more emphasis on a defensive culture built on winning National Championships and it was going to take more time to play out. Definitely not a quick fix solution especially when he didn't have the right personel to execute his schemes. Not there yet, but is right on track.

I could not be more excited to have Venables back as our head coach. I love that we're winning this season but none of that matters compared to BVs real coaching emphasis...LOVE! You can just see that all of these guys have an immense amount of respect and love for BV and each other. I am so incredibly proud to be a Sooner fan seeing the way this program is building young men mind, body, and soul. BOOMER!!!

I was a student and member of the Pride from 95-98 and that was an absolutely dark era of Sooner Football. I grew up watching the King dominate and then I get to college and we were awful. And what happens the year after I left? We started to win!
