Many gym have a strict no filming policy that is rarely enforced....📵
@noumanintown
@noumanintown Ай бұрын
It’s generally no filming in specific areas (e.g. lockers) or a “no filming other people.” Most commercial gym chains have marketing campaigns asking you to tag them in your social media posts because it’s free word-of-mouth for them. GoodLife Fitness in Canada, possibly the biggest chain here, even had a campaign called Become a Fitfluencer.

Rage bait. Rage content. It's all just pushed by the algorithm cuz it gets engaged with (not just hypothetically, this is literally how those algorithms work). Wanna fix this? Find the button on whatever social media it is and say "ignore posts like this" or "do not recommend this content". Block the channel, user, subreddit, whatever. All it does is make you angry at someone you've never encountered, someone you never would've even known about before. Your life is so much easier when random people don't dictate your mood, because the small boost of feeling better than others is outweighed by the arguing, the anger, the helplessness.

Most gyms are like this. I've been to big box gyms, my local YMCA, rec centers, and my college gym. They all have slightly quieter or noisier atmospheres but overall everyone is respectful and even helpful. One more side-effect of these "influencers" is the fact that they scare curious people away from the real world. The "gym creeps" Tokkers are clearly going for outrage clicks moreso than seeking any kind of camaraderie with a small subset of women who feel (strongly) the same way, but all the same it reinforces the idea that men in many situations have the privileges of a Dalit untouchable who aren't permitted to interact with the upper crust in any way to where even occupying the same general area may be taboo. I have spent hundreds and hundreds - probably even thousands - of hours avoiding any kind of eye contact with or crowding women, let alone saying a word to them, at the gym, save for the few who go out of their way to actually talk to me, simply in the off chance that they may be made more uncomfortable than my presence already makes them. It's not that I expect the police to show up if I ask a woman how her day is, it's that I know that in their ideal world, I don't even exist.

Social media is the reason for this. Everyone wants to easy way to fame, and getting a “viral” clip to them will get them to where they want to be, or at least that’s what they believe. Realty, they aren’t important at all and their workouts, poses and lifestyle are no different then the hundreds of thousands posting the same exact thing daily.

I appreciate the push back and questioning of diet culture. I spent my 20's and 30's steeped in it, consumed and fooled. So much time and money wasted, so little common sense. And mom couldn't help because she was stuck, too. At 56, I've ditched it, focusing on habits and long term goals rather than rushing after fantasy. I want to be a role model to my granddaughters of joyful movement, rest, and real food with no rules. I've never been happier with the mirror than I am now. I see bright eyes and contentment and hope rather than a flawed shape. I weight train for function and mobility. I backpack for perseverance and sunshine. I eat real food because I'm now a great cook and boxed stuff simply can't compete. My body will do whatever it wants, and I'm so grateful to still be able to be active. I will never diet again or worry about perfection or flaws. These are the best, last years, and I won't waste them on diet culture. I've got people to love, gardens to tend, books to read, places to hike.

The content you put out is fantastic. This could have easily been a 20+min subject, but you succinctly presented the subject in a digestible 10~min video format. Good work, I'm looking forward to seeing more content from you. You are helping push fitness and athletic culture to be more accessible. Thank you.

As someone who trains *Neck* in the Gym whether (Plates or Cable) and i know i look totally freaking weird , as i am the only one doing it in my Gym .. Trust me no one cares , and even if they laughed u can take it light hearted and laugh with them and make fun of yourself even .. and sometimes they would actually asks at this point u can explain what u're doing , they could learn something or maybe they can correct u and u would learn something too .

Bigger neck looks much better if the rest of your body is also muscular; I'm also the only one that trains it in my gym when I'm there, nobody has ever said anything, I'm blessed with a gym where everybody is always respectful and minds their business

Great video. Ironically, the Wall Street Journal had an article on people filming in gyms and the debate it follows. Unfortunately, social media just shows a person's true colors.

i always enjoy your content. i've been going to the gym and have never felt uncomfortable or bothered by anyone. i never see anyone recording bc our gym doesnt allow it, you can take a pic but no one can be in the background. it would be nice to record myself to see my form but i'd never bother anyone else just for that reason.

This is actually part of why i ended up building my own home gym. Im at the gym to follow my routine and get better. I shouldnt have to worry about looking near someone while zoned out on 300mg of caffiene and getting labeled a creep or some worse shit by millions of people on tiktok.

since the 2020 'stuff' i was able to slowly make a pretty epic (for my needs) home gym; it has cost about 20% less than a membership over the same time period and now that it's as equipped as i need it, saves money. i went to a gym with a friend about a month ago and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't peak time.

I work out at a relatively casual place, and when I'm getting physique photos, I always feel nervous about being in someone's way. The spots with good lighting are against the back wall of the main free weight room, and fortunately there's usually a space

1:20 is why you never let anyone in the gym if they're locked out. If they're supposed to be there, or have a right to be there, then they'll be able to get in themselves.

Every gym should play this on a loop for everyone to see, might help some people get the message. I stopped going to the for a number of reasons, but this was one of them. Thankfully I am fortunate enough to have gym equipment at home, but it's sad to see so many beginners mocked. We should be lifting each other up and supporting people who are new to the gym, instead of tearing them down for a few clicks... makes me sad for the human race

The spotlight effect is only sometimes real. I, for one, nearly ONLY remember embarrassing moments of other people. Because those are the most memorable😂 like come on... Thats why I keep thinking about my moments, because I know someone remembers it

I work at a gym and I have never had this issue before. I noticed that these types of incidents happen at large gyms with open space. The gym I work at is smaller and more older people show up than college aged girls. The small space helps because it's easier to get caught doing things like this rather than a large gym.
