Warning it is a big brew, but if you love a strong IPA with a ton of flavor...it is worth it!

So many hops as I remember. It's hard to make a clone at home unless you have a big stock of hops. But yes I love a tasty i.p.a. to quote game of thrones."winters coming " So is the good beer! 👍

Thanks for sharing. In a couple of weeks I'll be going to Russian River brewing. Finally have some time to get up there. Last time I had that beer I was not impressed. Maybe this time it'll be different. Cheers!

I wonder if it is like most IPAs, especially those in a keg where the flavors change considerably over time. I've figured out that Thiolized beers have the most aroma but aren't usually as smooth in the first few days compared to after a week or two. I've had other IPAs that the aroma and flavors have changed massively over a few months.

it sounds like your clone has the same characteristic of Pliny. It's very smooth beer, with very little bite. Russian River open ferments all there beers I believe which I believe helps with the smoothness. All their beers have a nice soft mouthfeel with just the right amount of bite. I can get this anytime I want so I never made one, but I might change that and try out this kit based on your results. Sköl!

Awesome and very jealous as we have lots of great beers here in Florida but very, very few of the very famous ones like Pliny the Edler.

I'm jealous as I've had many of their old staples, but sadly haven't had any for a long time except for their West Coast occasionally ends up in GA where I can grab some. Someday I'll either get to stop in at their brewery or they will start shipping within range for me to go buy it.

I made this kit 6 months ago. Hit all my numbers, used a good water profile etc ... but it came out very bitter. Wasn't a big fan

It is a bitter one, but we really enjoy those from time to time, especially with really spicy food as it can cut through the heat and the heat can cut through the bitter.

Haven’t brewed a Pliny clone in 8 yrs. Might have to put it in the pipeline. And now that I’m strictly using oxebar kegs I’d love to hear if you’ve been using them. Can’t remember if you did a full review

Actually, I'm over due for a review on them. They aren't perfect but I was so impressed with their usefulness, that I bought 2 more for a total of 4. I do wish they were 2.5 or 3 gallons but either way they are great for smaller split batches and experiments.

@@BitterRealityBrewing looking forward to it. Major issue I’ve seen is it’s hard to get the tapping head sealed properly. It’s almost a chore to find the leaks and would be a deal breaker for most. I’ve had numerous replacements from morebeer but if you can get a proper seal they’re great

Pliny is one of those beers that I really need to find a way to try. Never had one and cant get it in the midwest. I might need to brew this one asap. Side note: I'm traveling to the keys next week, any good Flordia beers I should keep an eye out for? I always try to drink local stuff that I cant get back home when I travel.

Sadly, I haven't been to the Keys in a few decades. I can tell you there aren't any famous beers down there, but there are still some really good beers. (These are Florida beers that you might find down there) Mythk Beholder Brewing - try their Rye Lager (if you like rye, I love rye), supposedly, their other beers are really high quality too. Cigar City Jai Alai, and Guayabera, are both really nice beers. If you've never had a Jai Alai, it is worth trying as it is a great IPA. Cigar City is amazing, but they've been around so long most of us take them for granted. Copper Tail makes solid stuff. 7venth Sun Beers (Love this brewery), are always really, really good, especially their IPAs. Funky Buddha is hit or miss, but if you drive, they have a brewery in Ft Lauderdale that has amazing food, which is more than worth the visit. (They pickle veggies and pickles in their beer that come with some of the food.) Islamorada Brewing - I believe they are in the Keys. They make some really nice mild beers like tropical wheat beers and others that I love to have when I have lunch outside at seafood restaurants. I just looked them up, and they are just north of Key Largo and would be worth the visit as they make a lot of beers you will probably never get elsewhere. (Their most popular beers are their lighter ales and lagers for that outside Florida lifestyle that is so popular in South Florida.) Swamp Head makes some big brews that are on the stronger side, including good IPAs and great stouts. Sailfish Brewing - great quality West Coast IPAs - nice. Holy Mackerel - I've only had their triple, which was really nice. Legacy Ale works - solid IPAs. Motorworks Brewing - Mango Habanero IPA, but only if you can take the heat. Amazing but also amazingly hot. Lots of other great breweries throughout Florida. I know almost all of them in Jacksonville, FL, and a few goto to ones in St Augustine, FL
