Us Leaf fans think we have already seen it all. Well, we haven't, not even close. Should be another interesting year. Let's see what he does. Not knocking Dubas, the last few years the team he built has been a top ten team in the NHL. Let's see if Treliving can build on it. As for Keefe, he's a good coach but he has a lot to learn. Just think about Paul Maurice when he coached the Leafs, versus where he is now.

Many Leaf fans are joyous about finally getting Dubas's scalp. Now all of 38:13 😊 38:20 😊 38:23 38:31 38:42 their problems will suddenly disappear. This seems unlikely. The top 2 left wing positions are not settled. Questions abound on both the bottom six and the blue line. There is a myriad of free agents. I for one do NOT believe Toronto will seriously contend for the cup next year. 38:52

My sense is that this was a bad move....recycling someone who has already been through the wringer...and screwed up badly. Don't tell me Treliving was not responsible for the loss of both Tkachuk..and Gaudreau. He was too cheapass to lock up either one of them....and so he was on the cutting block when they went from being a cup contender...to not making the playoffs.

You need to trade pieces.. dubas ruined this teams chances of having success in the playoffs because he’s to friendly with the players giving them what they want! He over payed these guys without them doing anything!! Matthew’s should of been at 10.5 Marner at 8.5 Nylander at 6 Tavares should of never been signed! Having 2-3 players near 10m in that situation is to risky let alone what he did with having Matthew’s at 12.5 and marner at 10.9.. shits ridiculous! He also saved Holl over McCann who would of been our first line LW. This team doesn’t even have an actual first line Left winger Lmao.. On the 03-04 Flames, let's compare them to this year's Panthers: Both had 42 wins, 40 losses in the regular season. But the Panthers weren't great in the first half. Not even .500. Their best half of the season lead into playoffs, not to start the year. Calgary struggled against Vancouver, and Detroit but had a pretty great series against SJ (who never won a Cup and constantly choked). They were a 6th seed (which is insane, given they had just 42 wins). Florida was an 8th seed (17th points, 15th wins) but were still a better team during the season than those Flames. Here's a fact: that season, just 3 teams had more than 43 wins. That's RIDICULOUSLY low. This year, just 2 playoff teams (Florida and the Islanders) had less. 14 vs 3. Playoff teams, particularly in the East, create point gaps and massive swaths between them in the playoffs. This year was actually far closer than it's been for about 5 years. Which is basically me saying.. no, Calgary wasn't that good and that deep and that significant. It's that the rest of the league (in the playoffs) had greater parity. Tampa was like the best team in the league, definitely the top of the East (which plays a bit like Vegas vs Florida this year) and Calgary rode Kiprusoff and Iginla as their top guys like Bobrovsky and Tkachuk. But the biggest reason people are picking Florida and didn't pick Calgary was they weren't as red hot as Florida. They had the flukiest of ways getting into the second round (Vancouver scores short handed and Calgary scores in OT on the same PP) where Florida has been just about unstoppable since game 4 vs the Bruins. Calgary was a rollercoaster that looked like a sixth seed throughout the playoffs and did nothing to diffuse the 'castaway St. Louis' story. Calgary basically acted like he wasn't good enough or big enough to play Canadian hockey and it bit them in the ass. Let's focus on what the fans'role has been with Canada not winning a Cup: paying THOUSANDS for playoff tickets [TORONTO] and the second they give up a home goal? The noisiest building in the game goes to an echo chamber so quiet you can hear the guy 17 rows back pumping mustard and his girlfriend dropping 6$ on a bottle of frickin' Dasani.

Trade Matthews And Marner and sign Nylander if he accepts 8.5-9 Mil per. Marner can’t handle the pressure in big games, turns the puck over constantly. I’m a huge Matthew’s fan but you simply can’t overpay him by 3.5 million or whatever he’s asking for just because him and his agent are greedy. Selanne and Mogilny both scored 76 in their careers and never came close again. Ovechkin , maybe the greatest goal scorer of all time only scored over 60 once. The reality is Matthews is an amazing goal scorer snd point per game player, but that’s why he’s worth 10,11, maybe 12 as an over payment but not 14 mil. He’s never going to get 150 points like mcDavid. He had 5 less points this year than Tavares yet Tavares is overpaid at 11 and Matthews should be paid more than someone who scored 70 more points ? The math doesn’t work

It's going to be very interesting what plan Treliving has. I'll take a guess on past history. Treliving will change cap and focus from the core forwards to the top 4 D. If Matthews resigns, Marner could be traded before July. AND/Or Nylander is traded before the season starts.

Agreed - especially if Matthews only wants another short term deal. He has value but he's not "the guy" - not that we've seen, anyhow. If I'm in that seat, nothing is off the table. I'd be much more willing to sign Nylander than the other two. I really hope that MLSE management allows him the carte blanche to do as he sees fit. Based on his moves in Calgary, I doubt he'll make himself a slave to these greedy kids.

on his way to cementing his legacy. oh lord feed us more bull. You can't talk about dubas' tenure without mentioning the following. Signs JT, a CENTER, for 11 million. Kadri trade. (LOSS) (we needed a stud dman on the right) Gives away a first round pick to dump Marleau (which he wouldn't have had to do had he not signed JT) That 1st is Seth Jones. Gives AM a 5 year 11 mil contract (8?????) Should have been a three year bridge deal. Gives Mm a 5 year 11 mil contract (8???) Should have been a three year bridge deal. Muzzin - Durzi - Grundstrum and a first. (LOSS) Brown traded away (Zaitzev contract,,, hmmm but NO) Freddy let go. (PURE Stupidity, which he is proving now) Hyman let go. (ffs) Traded a first for Nick Foligno Traded Moore away for Campbell (who was weak vs TB and left) Lets Curtis McElhinney go, trusting Garret Sparks (ya.... Curtis won a cup) Signs Barabanov then trades him to SJ for Sumoela who does nothing (Barabanov had 39pts) Holl protected over Jared Mcann (40 goals @ 5 mil cap hit) (Holl was terrible for us) Amirov, a lanky center, drafted over Schneider (6ft 3 209lb RHD) and Ghule. WHY? Marchment for Malgin (2nd line left winger in a conference final over a soft dud) (this was recent btw) Also, he signed Ritchie only to dump him soon after with a 2nd round pick. On February 19, 2022, Ritchie was traded to the Arizona Coyotes along with a third-round pick in 2023 or a second-round pick in 2025 in exchange for Ryan Dzingel and Ilya Lyubushkin.[41] He signed Mrazek only to dump him along with a 1st. On July 7, 2022, Mrázek was traded by the Maple Leafs along with a first-round pick in 2022 NHL Entry Draft to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a second-round pick in 2022.[31] Brought in Murray and his cap hit and only got a 3rd round pick out of the deal. Murray was nowhere in 2023 and we had to rely on 1-6 in the playoff UNPROVEN samsonov (who let in more weak goals than Freddy) To try to 'WIN NOW' Traded a first for Jake Mcabe (who blew chunks in the playoffs) Traded a first for ROR (who IS the kind of guy we need but will be GONE in the summer) Traded Engvall, a servicable 3rd line ctr, for a third, which will get us nothing. Traded Sandin, (who scored more points anchoring the washington pp than Morgan Rielly) for Gustafson (who we didn't use) and a first (which is 29th overall and will take years to come to fruition. and we WON NOTHING His best moves were Spezza Gio for two seconds Kapanen for a first and signing Bunting, maybe.
