Catling is a man with some fascinating ideas. What amazes me is the juxtaposition of polite and ‘gentlemanly’ early 20th century society with vivid, gut-wrenching descriptions of sex and violence. I would describe The Vorrh as exploratory, gruesome, absolutely filthy and beautifully written. I found it so shocking at times that I couldn’t look away.

This book reads very vividly. The imagery definitely comes from someone with a mind for art and forms and motion. He explores people well, and while I've only read the vorrh and its sequel, the erstwhile, I'm sure that all three books are incredible.
