Tech videos are always appreciated here. We have a 2001 HDT chassis on a 2008 build of a SuperC toy hauler. Just did all new airbags as we approach 23 years and almost 800K miles on the OEM bags. Research was difficult to find a consensus on the expected life and truth be told these bags see many diverse applications from mining trucks to over-the-road and of course RVs… My thoughts are for RV are visual inspection for checking drying rubber or abrasions and or 15 years is a good idea to start considering a change. We have 8 bags on the rear axels and it was a half day job in the shop with the right tools at hand. On the road - one bag might take that long so it might fall under good PM practice…

FYI, sometimes a small rock can get caught under the bag and cause a bad spot on the bag and then get released sometime later and you never find a root cause of the problem, after 3 million miles in a truck you see some odd things happen, just sayin! Keep ‘em comin Brian!

There is a famous Far Side comic strip with a professor describing a complicated math operation with a flow diagram. On the left was a long equation, in the middle a box labeled "Magic Happens" and on the right the final answer. The confused student asking, could you fill in the middle part a little bit.

My front airbags are leaking in my Tiffin Phaeton. My shocks are totally shot, so the airbags got a lot of extra stress. My just bought coach is old enough to drink, (2002 vintage, 93k mi,) and I doubt if the shocks were ever replaced, nor the airbags. The new shocks will be Konis, not OEM. I wonder what it was like when the bag on this coach blew?!

Hey man did you put jackstands on the frame? I plan on doing all six on my country coach affinity and I was wondering the best way to go about jacking it up. And do you recommend pulling the wheels and tires for better access?
@briansrvvideos
@briansrvvideos Жыл бұрын
If you shoot me your contact information at BrianMoto773@gmail.com I will give you a call back and go over any details to help you were Jack positioning and so on and so forth. I do not pull the wheels and tires it would help a decent amount in the rears but I do not like to fight the tire reinstallation or the torque specs. Thank you for watching.

Great video Brian I like the varied content I know it's probably a difficult question to answer but what is the actual approximate life expectancy on an airbag of that nature ?
@briansrvvideos

Hi Brian, as always great video! Literally yesterday crawled under my 1996 CC Intrigue 40' and rear bags checking is way worse than on this video. So I must replace those. By any chance do you know the part# for the front and rear airbags? I can't find any numbers on the outside of the airbag.

Unfortunately Brian doesn’t seem to like to respond to comments here. I’m in the same boat as mine are coming up on 18 years. Pretty sure it is time. I’m more concerned about loosing at bag at speed, specifically a front bag like this. Good thing is, they don’t appear that difficult to replace, assuming you have the ability to unload the suspension. Since I have a lowly Inspire, it has hydraulic leveling that is capable of lifting the tires off the ground where I can put in jackstands to work underneath.
@briansrvvideos
@briansrvvideos 2 жыл бұрын
There’s a lot of different variables depending on humidity during storage and use and also if you have air leveling or jacks for your leveling system due to higher pressures on our leveling systems. Thanks for watching
@3sons66

Is there a reason why you didn't remove the wheels for better access or is it easier with the wheel still on to compress the suspension? Thanks
@briansrvvideos
@briansrvvideos Жыл бұрын
A couple different reasons why. I didn’t remove the front tires and wheels is one the time to do the removal and reinstallation and the responsibility of torque specs on the Lugnuts. Also if any jacks or so on and so forth fail it will only be until the airbag compresses. Thanks for watching.

I was wondering how difficult it is to get to the inner workings. What’s the typical lifespan of the bags??? Thx
@briansrvvideos
@briansrvvideos 2 жыл бұрын
There is a lot of variables but usually you can expect about a 20 year life expectancy depending on humidity‘s during storage and use and different variables. And if the coach has air leveling or not.

How long should air bags last? Or when should they be replaced as a precaution?

Approximately 20 years depending on different variables also if the coach has air leveling or Jack leveling. Thanks for watching.

I would much rather not pull the wheel and I have to worry about re-torquing it and so on and so forth if I can just rotate it to the right or left for the access that I need. Thanks for watching.
