Bricklaying - Dog tooth brickwork
it's 🐸🐸 Down as half of the build was already like it when I dropped on on this job.
I made the Pattern returns 900mm. Could have gone smaller, however with there being 300mm worth of detail, I didn't want it to look too bulky in the corner
Enjoyed doing a bit of pattern work on this job, been shown a few ways to do Dog tooth, this seems to work alright for me👌

What bond is it below??
@IzzytheBricky
@IzzytheBricky 2 жыл бұрын
F knows mate...The lad who's job this is wanted every 6th course to be header stretcher header stretcher. Which makes me think it's Flemish stretcher bond. But when I dropped onto this job..I noticed none of the corners worked header closure stretcher. Some of the corners have 3/4 in..🤔..I made a video on this particular bond when I first dropped onto this job.. discussing the issues with the bond and how the previous Bricky & the customer were not bothered and told me to follow what's below...but have since removed that video. It's why I've not really done any filming on this job.. because I wasn't too happy with the bond below which I've had to follow. (At the start of the video I rambled on about this issue, but cut it out of the video..as I'm not about calling people. To be honest Mark I'm not too knowledgeable about different bonds so I'm not an expert on it really, but I'm sure there's an issue) Hope that answers the question mate! Maybe you know what the bond is🤣🤣🤔? Hope your well buddy, keen eye👌🍻

Variation of a double garden wall. Is best I can Target the custom bond.
@Scumsuckingpigmonkey

It's "Flemish Garden Wall" bond. 3, 5 or 9 solid courses between. My favourite, yet full "Flemish looks better imo. English is too heavy imo
@robertpagel8951

Modified flemish bond. If the half was in every course it be a standard flemish bond. Cheers brickys!
@Scumsuckingpigmonkey
@Scumsuckingpigmonkey 8 ай бұрын
I'll Agree to disagree... "Modified" is a new one on me. The bond shown was a legit bond with a name already given to it... "Flemish Garden Wall Bond". The "Header, Stretcher" on a full "Flemish bond" repeats every course. "Garden wall" comes in when a full row of stretchers replace the "Header". This can mean a row of "stretchers", between the headers, every 3,5 or 9 courses.@@robertpagel8951 cher

Love this detail, had the same on my house, but of a head ache making sure not to cut too much off of the trusses so the roofer still has enough to nail lats on, taking in to consideration the rain water drips into the centre of the rise/fall gutter brackets... if you get what I mean 👍🏻🤣 great workmanship

Hi Izzy, love your channel, just a couple of things if you don't mind, I thought the "dogtooth" course was known as "dogs leg" course, as it mimics a dog p!$$.¡ng. Also, my bricklaying teacher taught me any oversailing or corbelling courses should be levelled at the bottom because that's what they eye sees and those details tend to be above eye level. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I like very much your professional attitude which is instructive to apprentices. However for us old codgers can I make a plea. When you use bricky terms please ensure to use clear diction as some of the terminology is greek to us and our hearing is not great either. For example what are sailors in the wall? And a Frog I heard somewhere. What are the spaces between the bricks called ? Etc etc. Anyway you are producing an showing a very good and interesting programme. Thanks.

@@IzzytheBricky you have the ability to be beyond very good. There are few on KZfaq that can. The most critical person I am after is myself even after 50+ years.

the dog tooth bricks should have been cut at an angle at the back to suit the width of the brick course below by doing it the way you have i.e. simple half bricks the perps joints have no depth, this is a typical short cut of an unqualified bricklayer who hasn't completed a C&G advanced craft certificate, school boy error really. I'd go back to college and learn the trade.
