The athletes of AMP 1 basketball team at Stuy Dome in Bed-Stuy have overcome extreme odds to participate in the sport. Through the use of technology, a number of amputees have overcome their disabilities, and are able to play recreational and competitive sports.
Of the over 200 wheelchair teams in operation around the United States, AMP 1 is the only organized team of amputees playing stand-up basketball in the country. This is a tale of inspiration if there ever was one!

Im gonna have a below knee amputation and I never thought I would play ball again but I'm pretty confident now , thanks guys can I be on yalls team when I get better plz or I'll just go back to school lmk

You guys are awesome and true inspirations! Had to see what technology can do these days. Have a brother in law that was recently in a motorcycle crash and shattered both ankle bones and tore all ligaments and tendons attaching his foot to his leg. Has had surgery to attempt saving it. He's going threw a long and hard rehab currently. Me personally wouldnt let it go. Believe recovery would be faster and he wont ever be able to use it properly or effectively let alone will always have pain using it. It's awesome to see you guys not letting it hold you back. With that said it seems as tho some if y'all have better prosthesis then other which u feel is a little unfair. Dont know if you all just do this for fun or make some money doing so but would be awesome to see some of those help others if they can to get them better prosthetic and make it more competitive! Love what you guys are doing and hope to see your team grow into bigger and better things. Would love to see a whole stand up league on tv someday! Best of wishes stay positive!

I had an accident that resulted in my leg amputation, since I have enjoyed learning to play wheelchair basketball although I do use a prosthetic. I would like to start a National league for amputees. How can we get this done?
