The 1.6-mile long Francis Scott Key Bridge served as a gateway to the port of Baltimore. Experts say the port will lose millions of dollars each day that it is not functioning at maximum capacity, impacting the supply chain and consumers.

Probably longer given the NTSB will likely want to do a forensic analysis of the bridge structure to see how and why it failed in the way that it did. That’s what they did with the I-35W bridge when it collapsed and I suspect they will want to do the same here. The answer may seem obvious to us and it probably is, but it could still provide valuable information to use in the future to ensure similar bridges don’t collapse in the same manner as this one did.

Ole Pete said it was a Cathedral . WTF ... It was a minimalist design , no frill , no flair , It's only function was to let boats pass under and traffic to pass over .By the government saying we will pay means there will only be a federal investigation . Not Lloyd's of London who probably insured the dingy... Engineers skills are to engineer to minimums and to fit them with cost . A contract was awarded years ago to a company that had connections . Pelosi daddy was once Baltimore;s mayor . So don't count family influence out . A Truss worked great when designed properly , but when a force is applied unevenly , Expect complete failure , No redundancy Some say " Oh that was a big boat that weighed a lot " and the Force in equal to mass times acceleration . Thanks Eggineeers Simple steel reinforced concrete bollards or billiard pockets would have staved off this disaster .. But that cost money , wasn't in the budget and deemed an acceptable risk .. Notice that the power poles and lights all had a little protection to stop a small yacht . This also could have been a probing of our infrastructure weaknesses . . A Caisson , few thousand yard of 10,000psi concrete and steel rebar would have stopped that dingy cold .But ,, were idiots . Shoot ourselves in the foot and wonder why it hurts
