Bridging the Hudson River: Connecting Albany and Rensselaer

2 жыл бұрынCrossing the Hudson River from Albany to Rensselaer as a pedestrian is notoriously difficult: either scale up the Dun Memorial Bridge or you're out of luck. Martin Daley leads the Livingston Avenue Bridge Coalition, a community group advocating for a restoration of pedestrian access to the Livingston Avenue Bridge. Martin is a member of the Albany Riverfront Collaborative, and shares a vision of a reconnected waterfront in Albany, and a reconnected Hudson River. Rensselaer has suffered as much as any American city from the scourge of limited access infrastructure projects in the mid-20th century. Reconnecting the river will have lasting implications for the Capital Region.

The first railroad bridge in the region was not the Livingston Ave. bridge but was the Rensselaer & Saratoga railroad bridge in Troy, built in 1835. It was at the site of the present Green Island bridge. Years ago I walked across the Livingston Ave. bridge several times with my young son. It would be great to do that again.

I would love a nicer walking/biking bridge across the hudson, especially if it lights up at night. I live watching the lights glitter off the water at night, and I think a bridge easily connecting us and rensellear is a great boon to both cities.

All I'm saying is why would you close the walking bridge before the new one was built I struggle everyday with this and I'm probably 1 of 1000 people who walk over that bridge everyday the buses don't start running until a certain time and I have to be to work early so I would walk over that bridge but I can't because it's closed and there's no access to walk from Albany Rensselaer right now alot of people are struggling to make it to work as well especially when I have to walk on a highway at 5 a.m. in the morning in the dark with cars passing me going 60 miles an hour 200 ft in the air
