At long last! Conditions are starting, just starting, to look great for plaice fishing along the Sussex coast. After two days of northerly winds, starting to calm the seas, I headed to Brighton to target plaice, one of my favourite fish to catch. Conditions were still not ideal: whilst the sea was calm and the sun out, some colour remained in the water after the choppy seas from two days prior.
In this video, I go through my tactics for the day -- baits and rigs. I used fresh-ish black lug and also sandeels. The latter were not for the plaice, but just an attempt to mix things up to see if anything out there fancied an eel for breakfast.

Another enjoyable video,Gem😀well done on catching the plaice,and I can totally understand your reaction on catching whip congers,they trash rigs totally. I had a run of whip congers when I was fishing a session during the Alderney Angling Festival last October!!😡….whip congers plus torrential rain and gale force winds did not make it a pleasant session🙁….keep up the great work,all the best xx

Glad you enjoyed it. TBH I dislike catching any kind of eel - some people love them, but I am no fan. We get a lot of silver eels around Sussex, as well as straps. Mostly I get the silvers over low tide, just like the slimy beast in the video.

I'll aim to do more rig videos when I can't get out fishing. Right now, I'm hitting the beach a lot as conditions are just lovely! Thanks for the question and I'll do my best to get one put up soon. And yeah, the hoodie is great :-)

Hi gem have ever thought of having ago at the plaice in Norway they are monsters over there and as you love catching them and are very good on flatties I would love to see you get a 6lber or even a 10lber

Yep - in fact I am heading back there later in the year and hope to specifically have a plaice session. But I'll see how the trip works out. I do love catching flatties.

Haha - no, I am not. In fact I don't really like fish at all! Tuna from a tin covered in mayo or cod with ketchup is about my limit for fish. The family enjoy them though and nothing that comes home goes to waste.

@@ClickBaitGem haha that one actually made me laugh out loud. I'm going to be doing some completely inept videos later in the year myself once I've got my SIB and outboard. The problem is you have to catch fish to be able to do a catch and cook haha! Did a mussel forage the other week in Padstow though when it was too choppy to fish off the headland. Found a savage gear seeker somebody must have lost on the precious tide. Was over the moon.

Great stuff. Good luck with the videos. It does take some time to edit them, especially when learning. I’m still learning but getting quicker at it!
