post human is an incredible EP and you can't convince me otherwise. it shows they can still be heavy and energetic whilst experimenting with whatever the hell they want on top wether its old school thrash solos or Jpop type choruses or alt metal revival songs that add just enough linkin park influence to consider them fresh and new takes on that sound. the songs also embrace modern pop production in the best way to add different textures and pristine sound design ro the record.

Same for me. I got into rock in early 2018 with Three Days Grace, Rise Against, Linkin Park and Skillet. Then got introduced to BMTH's That's The Spirit and then amo got released. I really enjoyed these records but I was instantly hooked by Sempiternal and the songs "Crucify Me", "Alligator Blood" and "Don't Go". then I got into Metalcore and through BMTH I got into Deathcore. I love every single record they put out. Even tho i had a rough start with their latest album. But now I enjoy it very much. I will never forget how heavy they once were. Love them still, even tho I don't listen to their pop-rock records much anymore.

I really respect your point of view. You didn't just hate the shit out of the "newer" BMTH stuff like a lot of "old" BMTH fans do. I got into BMTH's music during the That's The Spirit era. Sempiternal is easily one of my top 5 favorite albums ever. What I love about BMTH is that they basically can play any genre and it becomes good music. I personally think that they deserve all their success. Following BMTH's career became kind of a journey at this point. At least for me. Thank You for this excellent video💪

This must be the "wrongest" comment I've ever read regarding anything Heavy Metal. The fact that the video's author says "FACTS" shows how fuckin' delusional -core fans are. No, the Heavy Metal scene at that time not only didn't give a single fuck about that record, but also, nobody noticed. "Real and intricate"? How? How real the compression is on those overproduced tracks? How intricate is their basic chord progression or they 1-note riffs? The fuck you talking about? "There is a hell" is only relevant to metalcore kids, not metalheads. Literally the entire scene of Metal doesn't care for pop-core/hardcore/metalcore/commercial shit that is cattered towards impressionable teenagers. You know, that's what BMTH always been, entry-level heavy music for impressionable teens that don't know any better. Entry-level deathcore back then, alternative pop rock guys now.

_There Is A Hell..._ was and still is a fucking masterpiece, and I really don't remember it getting any attention back then, let alone positive attention, but I guess I'm just misremembering that period. Crucify Me, Home Sweet Hole, & Visions in particular got me through some shit back then and have continued to do so since. I didn't really care for _Sempiternal_ then and even today, although Sleepwalking is incredible and cuts deep, and I will say that I did like a lot of the sonic themes of the album. _That's The Spirit_ was/is still a favorite that I got a lot out of and still enjoy to this day. And even after they continued to shift, every new album had a couple of songs that I fell in love with, and those songs were always something different thematically & stylistically. They've definitely become a band that I have zero expectations of but that I'm sure are going create something that just connects with me.

BMTH has opened the doors of metal for many. They’re one of the big bands that are changing the genre for the better. I love their old music just as much as their new stuff. While I prefer heavier songs I love to listen to Lost, Darkside, Kool-Aid etc.

Massive respect for representing There Is A Hell & Heaven as their magnum opus, twas the first album that actually got me into them and Suicide Season 😁 That album felt like a midpoint between their old and new sound, and despite the albums after not having the same emotional impact, Sempiternal had one of their best song writing anthems which made them one of the most popular Metalcore/Post-Hardcore bands around 🙏 And finally there's the latest EP they put out which felt like not only a throwback to their heavier roots (mixed in with new modern electronics/production) but also a nostalgia trip for us Linkin Park fans with some of the obvious Nu-Metal/Alt Rock inspirations they put on that release. I can see why peeps would label them as a "Pop Rock" band but given how much genre experimentation they do, calling them just pop is a disservice for the amount of effort and progression they've accumulated in not only songwriting/production, but even Oli's improved vocals...just a shame that we won't ever get another Suicide Season/Hell & Heaven type of album from them again 😅

As someone who loves almost everything this band has put out since Suicide Season (amo/go to is a bit of a meh moment) i loved hearing you praise Sleep With One Eye Open, to me that is one of the hardest going songs i have heard. I’d really like if BMTH returned to a even heavier sound than post human, it would be just epic hearing a There Is a Hell sounding album mixed with their modern songwriting.

I got into them Sempiternal era, so I never really felt the "shift" in their sound. but I probably would've reacted the same as you had I been an earlier fan lol. although, I did feel a "shift" when they released amo. all in all, I think they're one of the most interesting bands out there, and I'm honestly glad they changed, and are still evolving with every record they put out, whether it was a hit or miss. regardless of whether it was good or bad, I always got something out of it and I never got bored, which to me, shows their passion and determination in making music. add to that, their uncertainty when the next record comes out- no one expected the TTS sound, and no one definitely expected the Survival Horror sound after they released amo. funny enough, amo made me appreciate their older records, which in turn, made me appreciate amo more. and to me personally, their discography as whole resonates with me. hated back then because they weren't heavy enough, hated NOW because they're not heavy anymore. cut deep tbh- despite listening and shouting to so many metal songs now, i didn't feel that much part of the scene, and I definitely did NOT feel part of the pop, hip-hop mainstream trend scene. so everytime I didn't feel "secure" or confident enough to listen to, idk say Drake, or Slipknot, I'd always go to BMTH. obviously it doesn't matter if my opinion doesn't resonate with you, nor if I don't with yours, but one thing's for sure: BMTH is one of the most unique, persevering, and daring bands out there now, and I think they'll continue to be. PS, the breakdown in Anthem at 3:25 is *p h e n o m e n a l .* their BEST breakdown and imma die on that hill

I got into BMTH right after the release of Shadow Moses as a single and it intrigued me so much, that I dove straight into their discography. Their first releases didn't do much for me, admittedly, as I was never a deathcore fan, but Suicide Season and especially There is a Hell had me hooked, which surprised me, because at the time I wasn't much into heavier, "screamy" music. When Sempiternal was leaked one month before its scheduled release and I got to hear it for the first time... man, what an experience. The music made me feel things I had never felt before and to this day I consider it my all time favourite album. The shift in sound was quite massive and it only made me appreciate them more for how well they did it, as I understand the need to evolve. In my case, it was their next two releases that made me distance myself. However, some years after the release of amo I finally decided to give it the chance it deserved and absolutely fell in love with it. Can't say I'm as excited about them as I was in 2013, but I still enjoy their music and I appreciate them as musicians and for how versatile and influential they have proven themselves to be.

Got into them with Sempiternal, then I listened to their previous records and EP after with an appreciation but ultimately I preferred Sempiternal and to this day I go back to it much more often that their others, and still feel like it was a climax point of them realizing the uniqueness of their sound and style. With previous records having some growing pains, and the following records leaning too far in one direction when Sempiternal was kinda their sweet spot of heavy with more mainstream contemporary elements blended together to make a truly unique album, imo at least. I still like elements from all sides of their catalogue old and new.

personally, I think every bmth album after count your blessings is worth a listen. there is a hell and sempiternal are two of the best metalcore records ever released - suicide season and survival horror are both extremely fun, if a little inconsistent - while that’s the spirit is a very good arena rock album and amo is absolutely phenomenal as a pop record. music to listen to is also incredible and doesn’t get the love it deserves, and I’m really liking the pop punk direction they’re going in now. I kinda like edge of your seat, but I despise count your blessings. sure, I appreciate it, without it we wouldn’t have 90% of the deathcore scene today, and I love me some deathcore - but I just think it’s a shite record. inconsistent playing, cringey lyrics, poor songwriting - young guys who didn’t really give a shit. there’s novelty to it, but I don’t think there’s much quality.

I got into them when I heard I used to make out w/ Medusa. But I disagree with you. Sempiternal is an awesome album. It defined Metalcore to this day. Everyone compares albums by newer bands to sempiternal or holy hell by architects which I would say had a lot of inspiration from sempiternal. After that, it was pretty much downhill with some high points here and there.

A slight adjustment to the meaning behind the song suicide season. It's actually singing to his friend who's father killed himself. After his friends father killed himself, his friend went down a really dark park, and became a pretty bad person, and even started stealing from the band. This is reinforced by the last lines in the song "if only sorrow could build a staircase or tears could show the way, we could climb our way to heaven and bring him back to you. Because if you got him back, I would get back the friend that I once knew." Great video over all though

Sadly those who can do the kind of vocals this music brings, eventually they will lose their ability unless they are extremely careful. Vocalists have changed their sound due to their vocals being worn out. Bands like BMTH, Asking Alexandria and the like made major changes in their sound, but some other bands like Parkway Drive and While She Sleeps have been able to continue, but even they won't keep it up forever.
@graymads

It's all about technique, vocal rests, etc. Thats why Kyo from Dir En Grey is still able to it all these years later. But considering most these bands started when these dudes were teenagers its doubtful they had proper training or mastered the right techniques. I dont blame anyone for changing their sounds and trying to preserve their voices. I am glad BMTH has stayed successful. I just miss their old music lol

@weirdo3058
@weirdo3058 Жыл бұрын
Its all about the techniques man. Oli basically screamed his lungs out for years until he couldnt sing or scream properly in TTS era. And when damaged vocals can MAYBE contribute to the change of style of the music bands play, it mostly doesnt mean anything, AA just like the "rocknroll" lifestyle and my best guess is that they cringe heavily when looking back on some of their lyrics, Parkway are just such a big band and basically a favorite one on EU festivals that their style is basically making singalong songs for massive crowds which is sad as some of the old songs from them that ive heard are heavy and great, and WSS are still a great band although some may say they are too experimental and accesible, Ithink their last album is one of the beest albums of the past few years metal/metalcore vise.

5:35 You are right indeed, there was an interview with Lee where he said that when they started out they just wrote stuff to make people mosh-pit, I can't remember the exact interview but you can clearly hear it that the songs were stupidly and ironically heavy (one thing that comes to mind is the "DA DA DA" in "Off The Heezay" before the breakdown at about 1:25 of the song, it's just fun when bands write heavy stuff without taking themselves too seriously).

It reminds me alot of TDWP's first album. Just being an aggressive and semi humous take on metalcore.

The first concert I've seen was BMTH the day suicide season came out in NJ. They played with the ghost inside. The stage was so low people were just climbing up and jumping off. It was mayhem Oli had to stop singing because the crowd just got way too intense. My classmate got crushed against the front of the stage and brought out by an ambulance. It was amazing and absolute lunacy hahaha

Also, “RE: They Have No Reflections” is in the structure of a returned subject on MySpace/ email. Hence, the “RE”. “Response to email “they have no reflections” . The only thing I’m aware of that has no reflection is a Vampire but I’m not sure what the lyrics are anything related to a vampire. The lyrics are about stabbing someone with a knife

I miss those days so much in my teen days I am thankful I was there in that era and enjoy the crazy music we had especially the og deathcore scene. But since I move pass my emo phase and got into other bands like signs of the swarm, distant and mental cruelty etc just the heavier stuff. But also crazy I been open minded towards other music types. I am bout be 28 next month and boy whenever I put on bmth album Suicide season I go into a trip of teen me handbanging and gonna be doing the same w my children once they’re walking.

I first heard them for Suicide Season, but never gave it much of a chance. I didn't pay attention to them... Then I heard Shadow Moses. I ended up listening to Sempiternal all the time into That's the Spirit. Listened to that a ton. At that point is where I really went back into discovering their entire LP catalog. Now I love their work across the board...all phases of heaviness and lack thereof. There is a Hell may be my favorite BMTH record and when it was released I had just ignored it. By getting into their stuff so out of order, I think their sound shifts didn't bother me like other people that felt betrayed or something like the band changing sound was a personal afront or something

as a "skramz" and emoviolence elitist, i severely disagree with the assertion that They Have No Reflections would be considered Skramz if it came out today. It's pretty quintessentially Deathcore. Skramz (which is a term that refers to first wave screamo and emoviolence bands, or modern bands that seek to emulate their sound) has very scant if any metal influence, and most of the best bands of that era have their roots in the hardcore, grindcore, and powerviolence scenes, NOT metal. the best modern skramz/emoviolence band is Loma Prieta (in my opinion), and their music could not be more straightforwardly hardcore punk; there is essentially no metal influence in their music. id go so far as to say that there is considerably more post-rock and noise influence in the broader screamo sphere than metal influence, which is especially true for bands like portraits of past, pg99, saetia, and orchid. the screaming in deathcore is a vestige of hardcore punk, but screaming does not necessarily indicate that a genre is in any way currently associated with it.

Man, I was a fan of the band, I got into them a little before sempiternal. They’re one of the reasons I started listening to harder music. Wasn’t the biggest fan before that. Alligator blood is amazing, and don’t go are top notch. Diamonds are forever was the first ever track I listened to by them. Shadow Moses has a great video for how simple it was. Two cameras side by side, and switching the scene in post. Same thing happened in humble as well by Kendrick Lamar. My favorite line is where the drop is “THIS IS SANDPITTURTLE! Will we ever see the end!” I will say I do like two songs on the newest album “kingslayer” and the “interlude” to that track. Can’t listen to kingslayer without it, not as hype imo. I’m not very nostalgic to them, but I do like the older tracks compared to the newer ones, just like you said “just generic song structure” which happens if you want to survive as a band, not many musical groups get away from being original (not saying there isn’t” if you want to survive and make a living you kinda have to present yourself in that manner to stay around. Now onto real business. Where’s the list of music for your talking segments, and when’s the listening party?

early bmth were my first taste of the hard stuff, i like most of their newer music, but just like you, count your blessings, suicide season and TIAH were basically my party music from year 11 right through college, i'm not sure if i'd love these 3 albums as much if i hadn't been at the age i was (in 2006 i would have been 14) but thanks to being there at the best time for me to get it i hold them very dear, as i'm sure for younger fans some of their later records would be.

I am happy they didn't went full pop after ammo. My favorite record of BMTH is sempiturnal. A perfect blend of hardcore and electronic sounds. Overall i respect bands which trying new sounds. Big shifts are important for true artists. Standing still in art means death. For everyone who hates changes, they allways can go back and listen to their older works.

Great video! I saw Bring Me The Horizon and A Day To Remember on tour together 12 years ago after both bands dropped their new albums ADTR with Homesick and BMTH with There Is A Hell Believe Me and it’s still the best show I’ve ever seen! As time has gone on and both bands have changed and outgrown their older music only BMTH newer music has grown on me unlike ADTR’s newer music.

Honestly CYB is my favorite album from bmth. I like all the songs except fifteen fathoms and slow dance. Tbh I overplayed Pray For Plagues do I don't enjoy it as much but I love every other song on this album. The riffs are incredibly fun to play coming from a guitar player. As well as just great songs to practice and scream along to. Black & Blue, Liquor and Love Lost, Vegas, Medusa, Heezy, like man I really wanna do full instrumental and vocal covers of all of these now.

I still enjoy their new stuff, especially post-human, but there is a hell is just on another level. The production quality is perfect, the lyrics hit deep and the songs are bloody awesome. Crucify Me, It Never Ends, Don't Go and Blessed with a Curse have super emotional melodies, Alligator Blood, Visions and Blacklist just go so hard. I'm a relatively new fan that only got into them around 2018, and I wish I was there for their peak. I wish they still made metalcore :(

The guys are talented and extremally proficient at aping trends. If you asked them to put some Stockhausen in a song, they'd probably come up with something. I didn't discover them until the "Can You Feel My Heart" days (which I thought was some good songwriting). My overall reaction to their oeuvre is it can be inconsistent. When they hit it, though, they're pretty brilliant.
