It’s crazy to think how on top of the world Limp Bizkit was back then. It, honestly, feels like a fever dream. A band that’s heavier than the average rock band would be all over MTV and the radio.

You forgot ones begore them - Nirvana. Formula is basically the same - lot of angst but also radio-friendly, catchy choruses. Limp Bizkit still hold on and will keep it a record of fastest selling rock album - over million in a first week. It was wonderful time.

I’m a little older than Fred, but their music and nu metal of that era, when I hear it now, is like a shot of youthful energy. There is alway something in life that pisses one off and this music is cathartic.

"My Way" will always be an all-time classic for me, just on the basis that it was also the song choice for a certain music video between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock back in 2001 before their big clash at WrestleMania X7. What an absolute time it was to see their rise in those late 90's-early 2000's...

some of Fred's controversies being calling out scott stapp for being an asshole & supporting napster in hindsight really makes me think critics went searching for a reason to hate him cause they hated the music

It’s wild how listening to them during the 2010s was seen as “guilty pleasure music” and now the genre is coming back.

Yeah, definitely. When my metalcore band covered Break Stuff back in 2010 we kind of had to pass it off as an ironic joke, like "haha check out this dated 90s song, can't believe that was popular, kinda bangs though". And now almost everyone in the online rock/heavy music sphere gives LB their due cred, even if begrudgingly for some.

Limp Bizkit are one of my favorite bands, maybe even my favorite for a while. I was there for the summer of the Nookie. I remember the immense hype for Chocolate Starfish. I wore out my Family Values '98 VHS. I've seen them live twice. And I never stopped repping them either. My metalcore band in college covered Break Stuff at a Halloween show. Viva La Bizkit.

Fred Durst is my alter ego at this point, even though Wes Borland influenced me to pick a guitar. You cannot remove a single member of this band and to think you can make something better, Wes tried that few times, as he himself confesed, thinking he was better without them. Failed each time.

It's not limp bizkit related but suicide silence in the early years of deathcore also got the same type of ridicule from the same press that killed off nu metal. I think they were just power tripping and wanted to shut down anything and everything they didn't like.
@graymads
@graymads 10 ай бұрын
Yea, I remeber when that happened. It was the same attitude that Nu Metal had where because it was different and pulled from a culture outside of traditional metal it was seen as lame and not worthy of anyones time.

my dad introduced me to their stuff. he introduced me to most of the stuff i listen to. nirvana, korn, alice in chains, green day, mayhem, slayer metallica, soundgarden. all kinds of stuff. if its rock and i listen to it, its because my dad showed it to me. i was born in 2005, so i missed out on the "nu metal craze" as i call it. i was mostly around for the post hardcore emo era and the soundcloud rap era as far as alternative music goes. but i grew up listening to everything. i even listen to some beethoven here and there. my tastes are that varied. limp bizkit isnt one of my favorites by any means. out of nu metal, my favorite is probably either korn, slipknot, or maybe rage against the machine. but i definitely do like limp bizkits discography, which is pretty unpopular as far as music opinions go. their music influenced a lot of future bands and somewhat fostered a sound of youthful rebellion not unlike punk rock did in the 60s and 70s. as someone who considers themself a sorta modern age punk, i respect rebellious attitude in music, as long as the music itself is more rebellious and isnt literal pop *cough* blink 182 *cough cough* lana del rey.

Never stopped loving Limp Bizkit. Granted I was only a kid when they were at their peak but I remember hearing their songs on the radio and liking them. In middle school I picked up their albums for cheap at a local record store and really vibed with them. Even as I got into heavier stuff like metalcore and deathcore in high school, I’d still rock out to them. Fun music and I’m way hyped to see them at Aftershock next month. Their new album and Gold Cobra had some good moments too.

Remember they made a HUGE impact with the WWF at their peak. The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin in the main event the “Official theme song of WrestleMania 17” was “My Way”. Afterwards WWE superstar The Undertaker used the song “Rollin’ “ as his theme song where he’d ride his motorcycle to the ring. Fred and his team struck up a deal with WWE if they put him in the video games as a playable wrestler (“WWF Smackdown 3: Just Bring it” for the PS2 and “WWE Raw 2” for the first X-Box) from there I don’t think they had to pay him for royalties or something like that. I’ll have to look into it again.

One thing that still mesmerizes me to this day about Limp Bizkit, is how despite how much backlash and guff they got, they're actually well adjusted decent guys, and the worst thing that can be said about Durst is that he was a dick with bad attitude, they're not abhorrent and hypocritical degenerates like Kid Rock, or pathetic pissbaby boomers with psychopathic tendencies like Aaron Lewis.

Right?! One thing thats always bothered me with the haters is the way they talk about Fred in a sort of present day/past tense. Like they're all literally living 20 years in the past. They always say the same old bullshit a hater would've said in 2003 and i've always felt like they seem to have forgotten that 20 years have passed and if they'd actually bother to youtube an interview from Fred from any time over the past 10 years they'd come to realise how wrong they are.

@@graymads Can't wait to see it. I found this video right as I made myself a bucket of popcorn and got a drink you couldn't have uploaded it at a better time Unrelated question but, do you think Nu metal is a subgenre? I've always believed that Nu metal isn't a subgenre and rather an era of metal instead. Being a subgenre means that bands that you are compared to within that supposed subgenre sound relatively similar to you. This isn't the case with Nu metal If you pick out any two nu metal albums it can be proven pretty quickly that they often sound nothing alike e.g - Korn life is peachy and Limp Bizkit chocolate starfish However, I do believe these albums and songs can still be lumped under the nu metal umbrella. Not as a subgenre, but rather an era Many people say that the defining trait of nu metal was DJs, turntables and rapping, despite many nu metal bands not having any of these There is no defining trait of nu metal. Because nu metal was the "new wave" of metal music Inside of this wave was meant to be all sorts of different types of metal emerging from a single wave (think of a hurricane, in hurricanes during waves you can get many objects being thrown at you) Nu metal was an era of music that encouraged experimentation more than ever in metal musics history

I generally don't like Limp Bizkit and I think most of their music sucks, but I do really like some of their music. 3 Dollar Bill Yall$ is honestly a really solid record and my favorite from the band because of how raw it is. "Everything" is the band's best song imo. I also like Still Sucks because it's a short and sweet album. Everything else in between? Eh, there are some good songs here and there, but I at least appreciate the band for what they are. I would totally see 'em live if I got the chance though. That would be a lotta fun.

Caught this surprisingly early, didn't even intend to (52 minutes ago) and this really shows off all the prowess you've spoken up before. I mean Christ, the instrumental in My Way's chorus sounded right out of Meteora. As a Linkin Park fan, I'm both stunned and in awe. Never really listened to Bizkit, but you're God damn right about Rollin' played once a few months back, next thing I know I have it on repeat for hours multiple days So you just might've made a fan out of me. Used to think the Behind Blue Eyes cover was their best work I ain't one to turn my nose up nowadays, I mean. I like ska for fuck's sake (Looking at you mads, u h8r) but Fred always made it all come off so tryhard. Honestly, I like Fred now that he's mellowed out leagues more than I do Eminem, and he has meatriders up the ass, now _that_ is being a tryhard. He's like an old man having internet arguments with teenagers while Fred is busy admiring a Rei statue or something, man has taste. This is quite the ramble for someone that's only heard two songs before eh? Gotta close by congratulating Daggz, a brief but much needed presence. It may sound corny, but I can't understate how important it is they featured here at the point they did

It’s funny really I remember how limp bizkit had a very divided reaction from my fellow kids at school. Many loved them many hated them but their music was still very vey popular. Chocolate star fish was a very popular album at the time. For me it turned my taste of pop punk into nü metal then after that nü metal fame died I still listened to metal exploring the what other parts of metal were out there. I admit i don’t like limp bizkit really anymore (though I still give credit to the music itself being interesting especially Wes and his guitar playing) I still have not gotten off the metal train and I have to thank Limp for getting me to find interesting music I love to this day.

My parents bought me Significant Other for the singles but my life actually changed when I heard N 2Gether Now. DJ Premier production, a Method Man feature and Fred actually rapping pretty damn well makes that genuinely one of the best rap/rock crossovers to ever exist. Wish it woulda got some spotlight in the video.

@@graymads legit my favorite game in the series, and that soundtrack is a huge reason why. Authentic Sky happens to be my favorite on the whole album too!

I'm sober for years and my perception changed with it. Music bands that I liked before, I don't listen to anymore. It's the contrary with bands like Limp Bizkit becoming among my favorites.

Their last track from their first album, 'Everything', encapsulates their music potential. The limp bizkit shifts from a satire act to taking themselves seriously, as they should (had?)...
