Beautiful mating sequence. Thank you for posting this game. 5:00 -- The threat of checkmate following the Queen sacrifice reminds me of Paul Morphy's famous "Opera Game".
@basharmbmb
@basharmbmb 6 жыл бұрын
@agadmator As the story was told to me, Corden at 19, faced with the question of making a living as a chess player or pursuing a career in Physics, chose physics. I don't know the full extent of his career, but when I met him, he was in the Physics department at FSU, which had previously been chaired by Nobel Laureate Paul Dirac. I was lucky to face him (briefly) in a casual 25 person simul event in the student union of Florida State University. I'd estimate that was in 1996 or possibly 1997.

Found the mate in under a minue! It is very easy to find a mate if you are told a mate exists. The hard part about doing this over the board is that no one tells you when there is a mate!

#suggestion Apparently he is one of the three people in the back of the top photo here. streathambrixtonchess.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/when-we-were-kings-xix.html I also found that he became an Intel engineer. Martyn Corden is a Technical Consulting Engineer in the Developer Products Division within the Software Services Group at Intel. He provides technical support for the Intel Fortran and C/C++ compilers for Windows*, Linux* and Mac OS* X, with particular focus on HPC applications. Martyn came to Intel from the Supercomputer Computations Research Institute at Florida State University, where he had extensive experience with high performance scientific applications. He has 25 years of experience in writing, debugging, maintaining, porting and optimizing software for high energy physics, including for several experiments at CERN in Geneva. Martyn holds a BA in Physics from Oxford University and a Ph.D. in High Energy Physics from the University of Birmingham. In his spare time, he is an avid chess player.
