With special forces it is not talked about. They are NOT SUPPOSED to write books or even admit to what they did, dud not do or places they went. It is often what they DO NOT say that hints at it. They are guarded and quiet and admit to only being a US Navy man like they are average. Pieces of uniform if you know what you are looking at, place base names in the US, or other unusual things like pictures taken of very simple things like babies and flowers to show. Never military stuff. The less said, the more they have seen and done in general.

I’m not sure how many people picked up on this but the rescue happened because this kind of thing happens a lot over there. As soon as she was taken, her personal phone, the same one that the hostage takers tried to call her family on to release her to for money… automatically went into Emergency mode that caused all numbers dialed out to be redirected to a government hostage negotiator. They were talking to the military, the whole time. It’s also how they ended up locating her, GPS when they turned it on. Controlling the phone in that way also saved her family from having to negotiate her release for 3 months by themselves. Seal Team Six went in and scooped her up, quicker than a wire transfer. They can tell by watching this interview that she’s appreciative of their efforts. That’s enough for them.

That's a good example of people in foreign countries thinking Americans are wealthy. Thinking that random people would have $45,000,000 to give them for average people. No public people will ever know the names of the current Seal Team 6, I don't think they even can say who they are after they are out of the Seals. It's classified information to protect the families of the men in the team. That might be the case for all the seal teams as well.

It is crazy. We have money compared to them but it's not quite as much money as some foreigners seem to think. I went on a mission trip to Haiti several years ago and Haitians were constantly trying to scam us by selling us artwork and stuff like that at a really high price. Of course, we couldn't tell them that we'd already paid a lot of money just to come to their country to help them. We saved for about a year to be able to go. It cost half a months salary just to get there.

As great as this is, as an American, I just want to point out that if it weren't for the inspiration of the British SAS we may not have these sorts of forces available to our people such as Jessica Buchanan while in dire need. In particular, their actions during the Iranian Embassy siege became an inspiration for us to improve our already existing special forces capabilities. Over the last few decades, numerous nations have built up quite capable special forces units that sometimes only differ in the resources available to them for their training. Many of the top tier Special Forces from western nations such as British SAS & SBS, Seal Teams, Delta Force, and others regularly train and operate with one another each year. There exists a worldwide community of operators that is much larger than many realize and KZfaq has a deep rabbit hole of content surrounding them. Even modern British special forces may surprise you in what they do.

The SAS was the inspiration for our special forces, but it had nothing to do with the Iranian Embassy. It started in WWII, at which time SEALs were simply known as "frogmen". By time of the Iranian Embassy the SEALs had been around almost 40 years and the Green Berets almost 30.
@randomman057

@@kilroy2517 Iranian Embassy siege did in fact play an important role in shaping modern special forces units. Anti-terrorism/hostage rescue and CQB was not a focus of training in US special forces until after the British SAS proved that a kinetic solution to hostage situations could be carried out with minimal casualties. Delta Force wasn't even formed until after Colonel Beckwith saw what the British SAS were doing during training in the 1970s. And then it took several years for Delta Force to build a competent modern special forces unit. And the Navy Seals certainly did not focus on CQB/hostage rescue until the War on Terror. Hence why Delta Force was tasked with the most important capture/kill missions in the early years of that conflict.
