Smash cakes are popular for first birthday celebrations and these little cakes are perfect for small gatherings, too! They're easier than you think to make. In this tutorial I'll show you how to make smash cakes with and without tools like a turntable and cake comb.

Hey Emily, can you tell me where you get your thin cake boards (1/4" I assume) Made your buttercream last weekend and it's so easy to work with, but I used all salted butter and it was a little too salty. Next time, I'll use 3 or 4 sticks unsalted and 1 stick salted for balance.

What about if you don't have a fridge, can l still do butter icing?

Absolutely! There are some decorating techniques that do require a fridge, like using stencils, but there are lots that you can do without chilling the cake or frosting!
