There was a great current affairs show in the 1970s that sent a reporter to be totally fitted out with bespoke suit, shirts and shoes. It ran for a number of weeks....it was absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the show. To counteract that one, the same reporter did another series where he lived as a homeless person in London. Brilliant stuff, that unfortunately isn’t done nowadays.

@@gnomebolt123 Most of Savile Row suit money goes on being in Savile Row. There are bespoke tailors around the country who don't have to pay exorbitant rent and rates.

My dad's suits never cost a huge amount but he had them made at a regional tailor. The prestige of Savile row and consequential rent and rates are a threat to the survival of Savile Row.

+wild reed Mens apparel at all price points is already exponentially more expensive than womens. Generally speaking - actually, by-and-large, men who dont have the typical body and shoe size are totally under-served in all shops, online and otherwise. Being a man who doesnt wear a size 36 inch or less, especially if he has a bum and/or thighs, is just miserable and expensive. You wind up treating 3 shirts and 3 trousers that were hard to come by and expensive as prized possessions that you dread any damage to. And good luck finding a belt (even a sliding clasp styled one) even if you live in the US, where there is more of everything. If womens fashion caters to the the typical women (who isn't so typical at all), mens fashion bastardizes and shuns any guy with a body that isnt typical. God forbid you wear a shoe bigger than 11US or have a bum that isnt 2 dimensional. Mens style/fashion not only glorifies, but only acknowledges the lean guy with a swimmers body or the fit guy with big arms/chest and narrow waist who can afford & has time for a gym. Im getting angry now so its time for me stop typing.

+wild reed Actually I have more to say. The "big men's" stores are a joke that has never been funny. They are awash with overpriced clothing that is the most basic of basic, and any creative flair begins with a large flared square collar and a floral Hawaiian pattern. I can feel my blood starting to boil now. Thing Is I am not even a big guy, I have just always had a bum and thighs, so pants do not exist anywhere in the world for me. I must buy 8 sizes too big and it's a struggle to find a belt that's, including the one I end up with which is just as over-sized so I have to put my own holes in it. This circumstance is funny to most people, even into adulthood...

If it was a hat it would have a comedically high peak.

Bob Brawley it's full Cashmere. But depending on the style of suit, it might not be worth it. If it's a dinner jacket or evening dress, then it's fine. If it's a regular lounge jacket or, god forbid, an overcoat, it's pointless to use Cashmere.

My thoughts exactly... Shoulders look absurd, fabric is bunched up, lapels are not crisp (wavy), the back is full of wrinkles... A complete mess, IMHO.

If you're talking about the bespoke tailor that Jim was talking to, or Mr. David Taub, then you're incorrect. 1. His suit and shirt sleeve length fit well. He's showing about 1/2 inch of shirt cuff which is what's usually recommended. His shirt sleeve's length ends just right after his wrist bone, and also doesn't start covering up the palm of his hand, which is how it should be. The suit sleeve is 1/2 inch shorter than the shirt sleeve, and ends just before the wrist bone, or almost right on top of it. 2. His suit and shirt width also fit well. The shirt sleeve width is in proportion with the suit sleeve width, which is another common mistake most beginners make. The shirt and suit sleeve width looks to have very likely been tailored judging by how well it conforms to the bespoke tailor's arm width. It isn't too wide or too tight at all. 3. The suit fits his shoulders well, despite what some people seem to think. The shoulders stick out and look unusual, but that is completely intentional. It is a part of the design, not a mistake in the fit. Notice how there are not shoulder divots - the shoulder isn't collapsing/dragging down from being big, and it doesn't look tight at all around his bicep and tricep area when his arms are resting. Also, you can tell the shoulders aren't super tight by looking at how there are no stress marks in the fabric on his upper back at around 3:30. 4. His suit collar isn't showing any gaps from his shirt collar also shown around 3:30. 5. His suit is tapered around the waist, but it also doesn't look tight around the waist, either, as you can see there aren't very noticeable stress marks on the front of the suit. Look at 2:36. And again, at 3:30 if you look at the lower back you can see the suit is tapered around the waist. 6. His shirt's collar fits snugly but provides about 1/2 inch of space for comfort, which is the general recommendation by fit experts. 7. The suit's armholes are cut quite high, which helps to emphasize one's waist and chest, and make the suit look more tapered and slim. It's not like some "off-the-rack" suits that have sort of a boxy cut to them from large armholes. 8. The lapels of the suit lie flat and are accommodated by Mr. David Taub's chest very nicely. All in all, I know your comment is 6 months old and you're probably going to be like "I don't care anymore about this topic," but it really bothered me to read your comment. Don't be one of those comment section "experts," please. I used to be sort of like that so it's a little hypocritical of me to criticize you, but I accept the hypocrisy in exchange for informing and correcting you.

CrazyStupidGamers if we're talking about the classic suits look, there's no one that beats the Brits. the average Brits might be the worst dresser out there, but they're extremely serious with their suits.
