You're always my go-to KZfaq dude-bro, Steve. Would love for you to do a similarly themed, and scathing, video aimed at the Authortube Writing Advice Industrial Complex. Near as I can tell, Authortube is 90% YA-fed 12 year olds who wouldn't know life experience if it jumped up and slapped the John Green and Leigh Bardugo out of their hands. But, somehow these fresh-faced Zillennials are going to help me craft compelling fiction?

HAH! I've seen so many of those videos - clueless infant Zillennials offering wise-old-sage writing advice! Attacking them would be like shooting fish in a barrel!

Why these modern day stoics can get away with stealing other people's ideas and make a bagillion dollars off of it is mind boggling. I tried reading Ego is the Enemy and didn't get very far when I realized not a single idea or life lesson in the book was his own.

Woke up early for work (5:30 am), and here I am drinking a cup of coffee in the truly beautiful and quiet pre-dawn hours (which I wish I just sat and appreciated more often) and here I am watching a Bro Watch video. 😜. Need to go get a jug of water before I head out for work.

Like others I'm floored you haven't read The Righteous Mind, I've often wondered what you might think of it. I'm usually hyper skeptical of the kind of book, but I think Jonathan Haidt and Paul Bloom do it about as well and carefully as you can. haha yes, Bob Shiller is an excellent economist. And as I recall I reviewed that particular book for OLR.

affirmations? No coffee? Getting up early? I cannot get on board with this. I firmly believe in the Lazy Cow method. :) Are you sure Nate didn't just Blinkist his favorite books? I somehow can't picture him reading a chunky book 🤣

The nothingness of meditation is more about the clarity of thought it brings to the rest of life. It's not extinguisment - or not just - it's renewal.

I did watch a little of Ryan Holiday and I had to laugh when he was talking about Marcus Aurelius, and at one point calls him Marcus in that familiar way you mentioned--as if he knows him personally. 😉 I love intermittent fasting and your body does quickly adapt to the fast. It's also good to change it up, keeps your metabolism sharp. The meditation I do involves progressive muscle relaxation, initial stillness and rhythmic breathing...then journeys into various landscapes, starscapes, dreamscapes etc. Focused on unfolding sensory displays that the brain chemical changes afford while doing it. Approximately 20-30 minutes. You are so very right about Jordan Peterson. He cannot do proper interviews due to his own constant interruptions, interjections. So right about dogs and water--and cats. They need fresh water!
@saintdonoghue
@saintdonoghue 2 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention in this video that I myself do intermittent fasting all the time! I eat a small meal in mid-morning, then a bigger meal in late afternoon/early evening, and then nothing but water until the next mid-morning small meal - a pause of around 15 hours every day.

@28:20: The multi-cam shoots can be for multiple reasons. It can be used to cut sentences together (as some of these channels will perform multiple takes) as well as just dropping "umms" or other undesirables. Another reason is re-engagement. From an editing perspective, those channels like to switch the visuals up every 5-10 seconds because it keeps the audience engaged for youtube analytics. We booktube plebs are used to the simple jump cuts, but some editors ask for multiple camera angles in case they don't have enough b-roll and just have a preference for using multiple angles.
@saintdonoghue
@saintdonoghue 2 жыл бұрын
But none of these reasons invalidates the reason I mention for why THIS particular approach is used: to subliminally implant & reinforce in the viewer's mind that they are in an AUDIENCE, in a classroom ... certainly NOT that they're talking to a person!
@TheCodeXCantina
@TheCodeXCantina 2 жыл бұрын
@@saintdonoghue For sure, I never said it did. I’ve never heard of this audience effect. I’ll have to ask some of my editing buddies to see what they know about that. I haven’t heard of that screen theory so I can’t comment on whether it’s true or not. I can comment on the more technical reasons as to why it can be common practice is bigger productions. I know you generally don't mix looking direct at camera and then an OTS approach so I think that's an interesting theory as to why.

No way! You upload a new episode of Manatee Monday And BroWatch on the same day? I mean, I'm elated, but careful, Steve! This sure is starting to look like you're pandering to your audience! Is this what will happen to your channel now that you hit 12k subscribers? Whatever is next? Brewing coffee on camera? A cow patty ring? Will the daily Penguin get a sponsor?
