And here I was stupidly thinking that the old saw "A page a day is a book a year" applied to writers, not readers.

As a member of the demographic you refer to, I'm sensitive to older men lending "advice". Some of Peterson's more practical advice helped me (E.g. Embrace taking responsibility), despite the obviousness of this advice ha. I do consider you, Steve, as someone I can trust to give no-nonsense advice without any hidden motivation on your part. I get the impression you enjoying helping young people so I'm hoping you decide to make more videos like this.

It's been my deep honor to be a guide and advice-giver for exactly the demographic of 20-something young men I mention so often in this video, which is probably a big part of why it irritates me so much to see grifters and con men diving in to monetize what I consider to be a real problem. But I don't see how I could make many more videos like this - I mean, what form would they take? Just skewering one obvious fraud after another? Maybe I really should writer my own book on the subject!

On a more serious note, thank you for exposing the self-help, motivation side of KZfaq. There are women who make similar videos and give the same tips. But often, the only thing they've ever done is make a successful KZfaq channel. They have made a living off of telling people how to live their lives. Their business is telling others how to run theirs.

Hey Steve, completely unrelated but is there a single history book of 18th century england that you would recommend for someone who wanted to better understand the satire of the famous works and authors of that time? Like key to a Roman a Clef or something?

Hah! Oh, no - Alex is the real thing! I sometimes find him a bit pompous, but then, if I achieved overnight great wealth at age 20, I'd probably be a bit pompous too. But no, I doubt the bro-universe would have the first idea what to make of him.

Great video. By 'nobody cares' he probably means the minimalist idea that, for example, nobody cares what you wear so simplify your wardrobe will save time in the morning staring at endless choices and save money and the environment, etc.
@saintdonoghue
@saintdonoghue 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're certainly right - he was probably thinking along those lines. You see that often in minimalist videos - people claiming to have only one set of clothes, etc. They're lying (in order to harvest money), but their point is right: a neat, presentable public appearance absolutely does not require that you own 50 shirts and 35 pairs of shoes!

I just watched Alpha M's latest video and I wanted to stab my ear canals with an olive fork. Why is he yelling and and zooming himself into the camera lens over and over? Do people actually take these guys seriously and listen to their advice? Yikes.

The algorithms haven't shown me dude-bro sites or not that I had noticed though since I went plant-based whole food for my health but with a side-order of ethics - I have been getting a lot of carnivore diet videos which I don't watch - plus keto diets which all seem to add eggs and lard in things. Plus Joe Rogan has appeared - I think he is a dude-bro or watched by dude-bros but not being in the cultural milieu I am not sure.

So the point of this video is that it’s 90’s kid’s fault they had shitty parents? and that grifters give good advice sometimes of you ignore the obvious superficial flaws?

Conflicted. Overall I liked the video, and enjoy your takes on the Internet culture. But I object to Peterson being called a fraud. He has many 'fans' among well educated though mainly politically Conservative and Centrists scholars and academics and other note worthies. Disagreeing with him is one thing, calling him a fraud is objectionable. Ex-BookTuber Neil Griffiths is* a fan.
