Go on the trip, Dino! They have two properties paid for. One is being rented. They are on their way to becoming millionaires. They can afford a 3K trip. What negative outcome would happen if they go? They pay the car off a month or two later. They have no other debt to snowball.

All valid, but thats not the point. If you call THIS show asking for the opinion of THIS show, then there are very clearly laid out rules. If you don't follow them, thats not the end of the world but then dont call the show. Youre doing your own thing and you seem to have it all figured out. But when it comes to THIS show, its a no. It's specific.

They missed it on this one. The Ramsey philosophy is good for about 80% of the country. This man has his finances together, and I do think it matters to the big whale customer that he attends the birthday party.

Debt is not strictly a financial problem it is a behavioral problem. If he couldn’t buy the car in cash, he shouldn’t have it, meaning he actually can’t afford the car. 🤷🏻♀️

From a business man prospective, that trip sounds like a way to network and get to know more “whale” clients. It’s gonna be an investment. The man isnt broke, he is doing good in life, and now because of a car payment he should cancel everything? I would go. Enjoy my friend.

Yeah, I'm curious as to why they went Full Stop on his trip to NY if it would, in fact, pay off in the end. I'm new to the Ramsey Show, but is the premise that you don't spend a single penny on non-essential goods/services until you're completely debt free?

Yeah, you can't just treat the symptoms; you gotta treat the problem. And wealth/debt is all about lifestyle, perception, value, discipline, etc.

His intentions are good, but Dave's plan is not mathematically the best and there are some flaws with his logic. Overall, he's got the right core ideas and a structured plan for finances is better than nothing, even if it's not perfect.

I would go to New York without selling the car and just pay it off like you planned. Clearly you're not an unreasonable, undisciplined person who just can't stop spending money. I love Dave Ramsey but it's not a one size fits all program. Some people will thrive with this rigid plan but take it with a grain of salt and live your life.

Nobody wants to keep riding around in those they whole life. They have money in the bank house and rental property paid off and he has a 6 month loan on the car I wouldn’t deplete my savings when I know I can pay the car off in less then a year.

As I’ve heard Dave say many times to the effect of, “Do what you want and say what you want but don’t claim to follow my program when you do stuff like this because it’s not following the program.” And yeah. He can do it but then why is he calling them for advice when he knows darn well what the answer is gonna be? That’s just wasting everybody’s time and done other person who needed help didn’t get it.

I mean, the car was excessive, but keeping the whale client might be worth it. Going to the party should be weighed as a business expense. This high roller could see attendance as some proof of a relationship. This is much more complicated than the hosts make it out to be.

Go on the trip Dino and enjoy it! Tell your wife, if she wants to buckle down and get it paid off, then she is more than welcome to sell it. Yes, if I had that much cash on hand, I would have bought something in my price range. We've done the brand new thing and I don't think I'll be doing it again until I'm old and gray. But the trip, that's a one time thing. I will always take the trip over just about everything else though.

For an emergency I might consider going into debt; but for a trip, not! Also, didn't he say his house and his RENTAL were both paid off? Why couldn't he use the income from the rental to pay for the trip...unless that income is going to the payments on the vehicle?? Seems silly. If he can pay off the vehicle soon, why didn't he just wait until he had all the cash in hand before buying it--he couldn't wait a few months?? smh
