Definitely a harmonica in Waitin' for the Bus. I'm not sure what the connection is supposed to be between the two songs, but I can tell you from having listened to the original album release back in the 1970s and all of the re-releases since then, the songs have always had that immediate transition between them such that many fans have come to think of listening to them together as the "right way" to hear them.

ZZ Top was one of a. a kind. “That Little’Ol Band from Texas”. American blues. All of this music goes back to the music from the black slaves during the American Civil War. 1860 - 1865. We should be so very thankful. ANY blues-influenced music harkens back to those slavery days. All of it. And, I’m a white person. From the North. Not that that matters. I am married to a man (40 years) from the south -Texas.

It's the lyrics. He is waiting for the bus he will take from Chicago to New Orleans. The transition is from the anticipation of waiting for the bus to begin the trip, then the adventure begins the minute he gets on the bus. It's the buildup, then a release as soon as he is underway.

As a north american/World Citizen, Texas has always given us...a little trouble. Currently, politically, they epitomize Bad Hombre Stench. Indeed, some of our worst, and that's saying a lot. But I always mention the music, and the astounding artists of the region. Southern, yes, blues...yes, but...Mexican corridos twang and high lonesome, not to mention bordello-appropriate swing and a positively filthy approach to guitar. ZZ Top are wonderful rock players, and if you're curious where they came from, the contribution Texas has made is crucial to understanding of the history of Rock.

Lol, a little trouble...lol...however to the rest hi5 & right on! ZZ TOP, SRV, Alejandro &The Escovedo Family, Los Lobos, Willie Nelson, Joe Ely, Jimmy Dale Gilmore --to name a few --that make the state of Texas barely TOLERABLE!! Also too 😞 for FLA that we lost Tom Petty...AND outside of the Grand Canyon, AZ's just a desert wasteland these daze...😞🤬❤️‍🩹 Have Mercy!!!

ZZ Top is from where I live and when I was 13 this was the best music out there. I'm of the set that if you try to pull the songs apart it is just wrong. Like Queen with 'We will Rock You/ We are the Champions" They just go together. When I was 11, 12 they were still playing party's and store openings. Closest I ever got to them was when they played at a Dept. Store opening. (My mom worked there). It was a great time music. Enjoy

Biker here! I'm old enough to have been able to watch the entire career of ZZ top. I've seen them in concert five times (that I know of but, the 70s were something different let me tell you how much I don't remember). I watched them go from three guys on a stage with guitars through the pyrotechnic years, finally back to three guys on a stage with their guitars. (RIP Dusty) They put out great music over the decades but, their early years were their Glory years! For your ZZ top suggestion list, add "I'm Bad; I'm Nationwide". THAT'S a great track!
