Over three weeks in Spring 1999 in London, nail bomber David Copeland packed 1500 4-inch nails into three tightly-packed bombs aiming to kill and maim as many innocent people as possible.

Five different psychiatrists diagnosed Copeland with paranoid schizophrenia during pre-trial assessments at Broadmoor. In this video I'll explore his background and motivations and tell you why he went to prison and not hospital and I'll tell you my experience of working in Broadmoor along the way.

I finally get to know the man behind the attack. I didn't look at any of the media reports after it happened.. I didn't even know his name until I decided to do some research for uni project in 2015 because people stopped talking about him. I walked out of Iceland right before the bomb went off because my mother said their Basmati rice was too expensive!

Well I know someone who is diagnosed a paranoid schizophrenic and a narcissist and he's currently serving do life sentences in two different states one of them with a chance to parole after 25 years and one of them life without parole. Our justice system doesn't really care about anyone's Mental Health status. Unless it's extremely bad. I mean it's true that sometimes people are found not guilty by reason of insanity, but it's not common.

I' m glad you explained the manslaughter charge. Are there other circumstances that would merit it? ( hate to use the term merit.) A year stay? $150, 000? Maybe more.

Hey Doc , i can honestly say some of the Psychiatrists i have seen are NOT all there in the head Mate.I have OCD !!! some Psychiatrists are normal and are ok but i must admit, i think some Psychiatrists do have big egos and are very egotistical, in my opinion some Psychiatrist, are Psychopathic, I have come across Psychiatrists that are NOT empathetic.

Hello Sohom I just joined Your Excellent Site and I Remember this Case , Copeland suffered Family and Work Mates Teasing About Him been Gay . They would sing the Flintstones cartoon Tune with the Words " We'll have a Gay old Time ' and this was a Regular wind up at Work and at Home . I Believe He is a Deeply Closeted Person and He said " Killing the Gay's was Personal " I Wonder How You Think about that as a Motive for His Soho Bomb ? I can understand that after forking out for 15000 four inch nails he couldn't afford a train ticket to France. But surely he could've planted his bombs somewhere where there was at least the possibility of killing an Arabic tourist. Maybe Harrods rather than Iceland? Btw: that's actually a London accent.
