I swear they must have searched for the least enthusiastic MTA employee they could find, and threw him in front of a camera.

I like how "IRT" and "IND" is brought up. Great to show some history within.

The BMT was known for quality construction and innovation in the design of its equipment especially the Standard and Triplex subway cars and the experimental and production steel elevated cars which could run in the subway as well as the elevated lines.

Man 10 years since this project is complete. And still a huge success! Happy 10 year anniversary to the transfer from the uptown 6 to the B D F and M trains.

You sure have made a lot of the Subway system a more enjoyable view than it was when I rode the system in the middle 1950's to late 1960's, Superb workmanship MTA!

This confused me as a kid. Glad that MTA has fixed the confusion. Next project: to have there be an in-system transfer from south ferry on the 1 and R to bowling green on the 4 and 5. They are so close to each other, let alone being close to the south ferry terminal.
@Dezlite6 жыл бұрын
You can get a free transfer using your MetroCard at Bowling Green and South Ferry/Whitehall St

Excellent - used this in the Autumn without even thinking about it. Good work and nicely presented. Love the official re-use of the historical IRT and IND names again. Very much part of the city's heritage.

THIS IS SO COOL! I live in the SF bay area. our stations are no where near this cool! But we do get sweeping bay views since most of our track is elevated. I love the honey comb art piece that is way neat! Very space age!

I cant wait for the second Avenue line to be done because the Lex Av line is a total mess in the Morning and Afternoon rush hour...it would def help people get to their destination sooner than it took them riding on the Lexington Av Line 4 5 and 6 trains

Try getting into or out of that station. First of all, it's 65 steps from the F/B/D platform. You're climbing 5 stories. Always a lot of fun, especially during summer. Secondly, they've eliminated exits/entrances as well as shut others for (I'm guessing) an elevator. Nice bottlenecks even when it's not rush hour. It's also one of the ugliest street intersections on the lower west side (SoHo for all you transplanted New Yorkers).
@TheRailLeaguer5 жыл бұрын
Rudolph Guarnacci There are entrances at 3 of the 4 corners of Houston and Lafayette, plus another set a block up at Bleecker. Options are not limited for station egress.

1:35 you could also take the f to 4 avenue 9 street where you get on the (R) to union sq where (6) service is available
@TheRailLeaguer Жыл бұрын
That would be a rather slower option, though with the opening of this transfer, this is not needed
@VinceHere988 жыл бұрын
This is something that should have been done when they first built the station on the B D F and M..... Honestly
@AlgolZ7 жыл бұрын
You're forgetting NYC used to have 3 separate transit companies: BMT, IND, IRT. They competed with each other, so they weren't that keen on providing interchanges between their stations.
@1575murray6 жыл бұрын
That is correct. The IRT and BMT were acquired by the city in 1940. However many interchange points between divisions as well as new connecting lines had to wait until after WWII ended to be built. Some of them weren't completed until the 1960s and 1970s!

@exautical50666 жыл бұрын
Its cool how you guys connected these stations together but you guys forgot one station that they could've also connected during this process which was Prince Street on the (N)(Q)(R) and (W) lines
@TheRailLeaguer6 жыл бұрын
Exautical Not necessary. They don’t need a transfer at Prince Street and Bleecker Street, since transfer volume is inexistent and the Broadway lie can provide service to some of the areas the Lex and 6th Avenue lines serve without transferring from the Broadway Line.
@exautical50666 жыл бұрын
I mean it could be necessary for those who are coming from Brooklyn on a north bound (N)(R) or rush hour (W) train and want to or need to transfer to the (4)(5) or (6) trains but going to Lexington Avenue 59 Street will add too much time to their commute so if their is a connection between Prince Street and Bleecker Street then it cut time on people commute for those who need to go on a Lexington Avenue line train from a Broadway line train but is coming from Brooklyn on a north bound (N)(R) or rush hour (W) train but then again people can do that at 14 Street Union Square
@TheRailLeaguer6 жыл бұрын
Exautical There is a transfer between the Broadway and Lexington Avenue Lines at 14th Street-Union Square, which is an express station on both lines, so no need to build a transfer point at Prince Street.
@exautical50666 жыл бұрын

most were converted into r188s and are on the 7
@1575murray6 жыл бұрын
I believe that the rest (7591-7810) are on the 4. The first 380 (7211-7590) are the converted cars now running on the 7 with the newly built R188s (7811-7936).
@exautical50666 жыл бұрын
Why don't they transfer all the existing R142's into R142A's? That would be cool and I wonder why R188 are only for the 7 train and not for the 2,4,5, and 6 trains
@TheRailLeaguer6 жыл бұрын
Exautical R188s are only for the 7 train because they have CBTC equipment for CBTC operation in the heavily used Flushing Line. They must have the latest cars that can handle that operation. With CBTC, this can allow the 7 line to have more frequent service, a blessing for those who live in Corona, Flushing, and other neighborhoods in Eastern Queens who take the bus to the 7 train into Manhattan. As far as R142 conversions into R142As go, that will never happen. They simply won’t do it just because you miss your R142As. Please deal with the R62As on the 6 line, like what people in Mot Haven, Parkchester, Pelham Bay and other Eastern Bronx neighborhoods are doing.

Because the whole purpose of the Second Avenue Line - to replace the long-lost 2nd and 3rd Avenue Elevated Lines from South Ferry to 125th Street won't be fulfilled.
