Brock continues his ongoing long-term test series to evaluate Sprint Filter air cleaner performance/filtration vs. dyno results over time. Our friend Mike first let Brock break-in his brand new/zero mile 2016 ZX-10R on the Brock’s Performance model 250 Dynojet dyno back in Jan. 2016 as part of our ‘Loan Us Your Bike’ program and has allowed us to document his results/changes along the way. Check out our latest test after 5323 Miles (8567 km) using the Sprint Filter P08 F1-85.
A brief review:
Total miles using OEM Filter = 1003 Miles (1614 km)
Total miles using Sprint Filter P08 = 9733 Miles (15664 km)
Total Miles using Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 = 5323 Miles (8567 km)
Total Miles on Odometer: 16059 Miles

@@BrockDavidson I'm excited to see my bike on your dyno hehe. Damn those are better numbers than what I was expecting, really happy about that. Nice to compare apple to apple, not so far from the gsxr. I wonder what a v4 panigale would do on your dyno. Brock do you have any bikes that run on ethanol (e85), can you make a video about how to tune one please ? Cheers.
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson 5 жыл бұрын
@@arkama67 Hello. We should have V4 on our dyno before too long. Most (if not all) motorcycle fuel systems cannot supply enough volume to properly run e85. Once you get into swapping pumps and mandatory bike specific tuning - its a race bike and we don't mess with it. Instead, we use VP MR12 fuel - it makes more power (normally aspirated), the OEM fuel system is fine and you can simply switch back to pump fuel if you are caught out on the road and can't find e85.

i saw there is small gap around air filter because air filter is made from very hard plastic material and cant seal space around filter to secure all that incoming particles. K@N offer special paste which can seal space around filter.but these P08 F1-085 was only prototype.today version is made from rubber which seal much more! and can solve that issue with particles on throtlle bodies as well.one week ago i ordered my P08 (pm05s) for my tuono 13 v4r aprc and came made from rubber as well.best on market.i use BMC filter before.:) now i got more flow without oiling!

The P16 is a race filter and we don't recommend it for street use. The P16 flows double the air compared the P08, but it filters 1/2 as well (160 microns vs. 80 microns) The P08 F1-85 flows more air than a P16, but filters down to 85 microns.

interested to see if a japanese or australian market bike were to be done at your shop and what you'd do to it to extract some power. here in Aus all sports bikes, such as the zx10r and similar bikes, all are tuned to a minimum of 95RON. Lowest RON fuel you can buy at the pump here is 91RON with 95 and 98 being readily available. Bought myself a 2007 gixxer 1000 with 24000 miles (40000kms) after selling my Ducati 848. replaced the oil, air filter (replaced with oem) and spark plugs and found that i definitely regained some mid range torque (most likely from the air filter replacement). went to give it an agressive squirt and found myself in a 1 wheeled situation haha. i'm usually ok with travelling on 1 wheel on the odd occasion but i didn't expect it to pull that hard hahaha. Love your channel and vids. Cheers Mate

@freelanceriders - in the United States and Canada we use the Anti-Knock Index (AKI) or (R+M)/2 method. This is generally 4-6 points lower than RON. your 95RON which explains our availability of 87 AKI min vs. Your 91RON and our 93 AKI max vs. your 98 RON. .....and, another great video with lots of knowledge and experience. I wish you still did one-on-one individual bike dyno tuning. My last checkup, the dealership removed my Sprint filter and replaced it with a stock/OEM filter citing "too much debris" in the box. Same filter, different region. So, question: Will going from Sprint back to stock OEM cause any mapping issues with Air/Fuel? More specifically; will it run richer or leaner with less air? I noticed more decel popping but that may be due to a winter tune and high heat summer. And, should the bike be retuned for stock/OEM airflow? I noticed my Dragy blue speed line was not as smooth as with the Sprint. Bummer.
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson 3 жыл бұрын
The stock filter flows less air, so the air fuel ratio will be richer. This can also create more decel pop since there are s more unburned fuel in the pipe during decel. Easy fix is to put your sprint Filter back in.

Can you do a video where you tear the motor down after using one of these filters long term? The big discussion in the community is about whether these filters pass too much debris even in a "clean" environment and if that is damaging the engine or not. One tear down video is all the world needs to prove this one way or another.
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson Жыл бұрын
This long term test demonstrates that the engine has maintained it's horsepower levels on the dyno consistently over time/use...so it's clear there is no "damage". The bike now has 32K miles and runs fantastic - I'll schedule another update soon.

Hey Brock, I want to pick your brain a little here. For my 09 GSXR 600 they don’t make the P08 F1 but they do have the p08 instead. What I currently have is a k&n filter (not sure wether race or normal style filter), what my main question is, is the p08 (normal not f1) a better alternative to the k&n. Or would this be such a negligible difference that it would not perform any better or worse? Thank you I’m having this dilemma and cannot figure out how much air the k&n filter passes trough. And the p08 as far as I saw it was 5000 l/m/ second
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson 3 жыл бұрын
Antonio, the P08 will not only outflow your current filter (bit.ly/34Sj1fQ) - but you will also receive the other benefits. Fast/Easy to clean and no need to wash/oil/wait to dry. Please go here to request a P08 F1085 for your bike: blog.brocksperformance.com/product-request/ and our team will look into having them produced.

Hi. I am running a Sprint P08 filter on my 2016 Zx10. Is the F1 filter worth an upgrade from a cost Point of view vis-a-vis the p08? I dont want to compromise on the filteration bit as I operate in some pretty dusty areas and the P08 just about manages to hold things off.
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson 4 жыл бұрын
The purchasers of the P08 F1-85 filters are the folks who are trying to extract maximum performance from their machines - we can't make them fast enough, so - yes, it's worth it to them. For commuting in dirty conditions, we recommend the P08 as a minimum and a P37 for very dusty conditions. More info: bit.ly/2xllNwq

Brock in new Zealand we work with RON for the fuel octane. You use 87 on your side so if I understand correctly from your previous comment that would be our 91 ron here is that correct and will that make the best power vs 95 or 98 ron. THANKS
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on your RON rating for the bike. We try to stay within 1 point. Example, we don't use 87 AKI in a bike that requires 90 min. We will use 89 AKI as it makes more power than 93 AKI.

which sprint filter is better? P08-F1 or P16? Also I was told to stay OEM because sprint filters do let some grit, grime, and other particles through. Is that true?
@BrockDavidson
@BrockDavidson 4 жыл бұрын
The best filter for your application depends on your goals (go faster/ease of cleaning/maximum filtration etc...) The P16 is a full race filter and it's being phased out as the P08 F1-85 flows and filters better. If you live in a very dusty region, the P037 offers maximum filtration with quick/easy /no mess or wait 'shot of compressed air' cleaning. Okay, I read the article. What it was explaining makes total sense to me and much of it I have known already. Next question: does the owner's manual on the ZX-10R specify a minimum 89 octane R+M/2? Most bikes I've owned with at least 12.0:1 compression say minimum 90 R+M/2. I suppose that's partly the manufacturer saving itself from litigation in case the user happens to mix some lower stuff. Do you have a set scale of absolute octanes that YOU personally at the shop use for a given compression ratio? I downloaded a 2016 ZX-10R ABS owners manual off the Kawasaki website and the tag specifies "minimum of 90+ RON+MON/2" with 13:1 compression. But ironically it's the same sticker for a Z900 which is 11.8:1.

We would suggest that you retain your OEM paper filter. High performance air filters are just that..while stock filters going to protect your engine, even at the expense of performance. I feel you, we won't use anything other than OEM oil filters here @BrocksPerf.

You mean connecting the pair to the crankcase breather? If so, that is a verified power lose on most modern sport bikes.
@H43N
@H43N 5 жыл бұрын
yes! I never knew it affected power. It's more of a preventative measure mod. most guys who do it, do it on older bikes like the f4i or early 636s. Modern bikes are so complicated now.

Most new bikes have an excellent 'mosetrap' system and some even have reed valves to prevent positive pressure from the airbox from entering the engine through the crank vent.

Not a filter, just a mesh screen protector to catch rocks, bugs, small critters, babies, etc . . . but not a true filter(you can see across the "filter" clearly and what's behind it when the camera focus on it). Brock knows a lot but I don't agree all the time with him, this one being one of those. Your rings, cylinder walls and pistons will let you know they are not happy further down the road if you keep the bike for the long run. Can't have both, choose one, Longevity or Performance. On current 1000s already making 190-200hp to the crank I know what I'm using, the OEM part.

This is true and we mention you at 14:30 in the video. Ducati is in the street bike business and the P08 comes standard in the Ducati 1199 and 1299 Panigale Superleggera as well as the Ducati Panigale R. I don't believe they would allow a "not true filter" in these OEM applications.

This is Sprints race filter, and it's not really recommended for street riding because it will let smaller particles through. The P08 filter is there street air filter with better filtering media but less airflow of course, and im running one of those with no problem. I wouldn't run this race filter on my street bike that i'm hoping to get 50k miles out of it nor would i run less than 0 weight oil. But in a drag or race bike, my thinking would be different where the extra few horses would provide an edge on the competition.

Older bikes not only typically have more restrictive filters, but usually have more restrictive air box designs, so we see higher average power gains from adding a @sprint_filter, in addition to the quick/easy cleaning. You might also want to run a bottle of our Wynns Power Charge through ol girl... You might be surprised how much she wakes up.

Bought and installed a sprint p08 not the F1-85 from you last week and switched from my twobrothers shorty with cat delete to a yoshi r77 with akra link pipe. Thru my whole tune off she has a dead spot at 8k rpm hestitates the at about 9k she picks up again in the process now im building a new map via autotune. If you know any good tuners out here in Arizona let me know. Autotune is getting old just want it tuned and be able to go. Thanks.

Sprint Filter P08 IS OEM for many motorcycles --so perhaps you are saying it's ok the throw money away replacing paper filters? Instead, we use one that is quickly and easily cleaned - so it does not disrupt your air fuel ratio (for better performance and longer engine life),...while also lasting for the lifetime of your bike with no other expenses (oil, filter cleaner, etc...) required.

The P08 F1-85 is our highest flowing/fastest/largest HP gain air filter. If you want a pristine air box, especially if you live in a dirty area the P08 or P037 would be much better choices. FYI: The bike in this video still makes the same power now as it did 30K miles ago when the P08 F1-85 air filter was installed.
