How To Drink

4 жыл бұрын

I'm making the legendary Flaming Moe, and also I broke my toe, it's in the video, I'm not joking.
**********************************
Find the bottles I am using at Curiada: drink.curiada.com/flaming-moe/
Today on How to Drink I'm tackling the legendary Flaming Moe, or Flaming Homer, depending on who's story you think is the true one. Honestly, I would have called this a Flaming Homer, but research (asking my friends) suggests the Flaming Moe might have better name recognition.
In the episode this drink is from Homer is stuck watching slides from Patty and Selma's latest vacation to the Dead Sea when he wanders into the kitchen in search of a beer, but Patty has drank the last one. Instead he whips up a cocktail comprised on the little bits left at the end of every bottle in his kitchen, including some Krusty's Non-Narkotik Kough Syrup. The drink is merely acceptable at first, successfully passing the "Blindness" test, but the addition of fire transforms it into something truly incredible. To quote Homer: "I don't know the scientific explanation, but fire made it good".
Moe of course then steals Homer's creation and becomes wildly famous and successful in the process. So, my recipe doesn't involve cough syrup, because that would be dangerous and ridiculous, and it's a bit more intentional that simply combining everything in the liquor cabinet (my liquor cabinet is pretty gigantic these days) but it definitely stays true to the spirit and I think flavor profile of the drink, and yes, it is improved dramatically by fire.
It also broke my toe- so I hope you'll enjoy witnessing my severe pain in this episode.
Flaming Moe
One dash of Absinthe
Two Dashes of Angostura Bitters
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Grenadine
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Punt e Mes

.25 oz. or 8 ml. Drambuie
1 oz. or 30 ml. Rye
1 oz. or 30 ml. Rhum Barbancourt White
Shake & Open Pour
Garnish with a flaming sugar cube lime boat
and cinnamon

There's an art to the 1-foot back-step when dropping things toward your feet... I've been so close to dropping a knife on my bare foot when cooking so many times... the sudden reflex to jump back about a foot when something falls out of your hands is just a good reflex to have... Whatever is falling probably isn't worth the hours spent in the ER if it lands on your foot.

I think the flaming homer was based on the primo jellybean, which tasted kinda like cough syrup and you did light on fire. In a shot glass combine blackberry brandy, anisette and top with 151. Lighting it burned off some of the alcohol and warmed the rim of the glass, which was nice. And yes, you quaffed it for the slow burn and near instant effects.

So, I've watched like 1-4 videos of yours without subbing and I couldn't anymore because I have grown to love your videos. The music, what your doing, and your personality goes well together and your video is so well put that I couldn't not sub to you, and plus I wouldn't mind trying to make Butterbeer or beer butter from your potter videos and Flaming Moe at home. Lol, Keep up the good work!

I really like how this is seriously a perfect series of events leading to the toe breaking. Served it in a large glass for authenticity. Filled to the brim with liquid, making it heavier. Set it on fire, again for accuracy. Fire necessitated a metal straw Phone goes off and he catches the straw while turning and makes a big mess.
