How about yall drop the stereotypical ego that is the worst part about the technical trades in america and just respect what these guys do with very little resources. I just watched a guy on this same channel re build a battery using another battery and cables as a soldering iron. I am part of a lot of generator tech FB groups and 90% of the comments are negative insults criticizing the other techs work. People need to be more supportive and forget about telling the world how great they are.

You dont need specialist tools to see pores big enough to fit your finer in... nor to taper prep surfaces so that you get better penetration, or to fix said welding faults. Completely agree if some are saying 'why didn't you xray the welds?!?' but its pretty reasonable to say 'that weld wasn't even prepped properly, its gonna be weak and dangerous...' when all that's needed to prep/fix the weld is the tools we see in this vid... that said do feel sorry for them, doign this work with crap gear and 0 safety would be a bitch

Gotta tip my hat to them for ingenuity. This is the way my dad used to fix his truck in the 50's, on the street, with a few spanners and a big hammer. We kids had to help him, and I remember getting my fingers mashed when I didn't get them out of the way when he pushed a 2 speed Eaton diff centre into its housing. I got yelled at for not getting them out of the way! Only one thing I didn't fancy in your video ; those welds should have had the plates V'ed at 45 degrees on the edges, to get full penetration. As it was, after grinding off the surface, there wouldn't be much weld inside.

jubjub247 GO back and look at some of his other videos. THEY MAKE NEW FRAME INSERTS AND IN SOME CASES WRAPS OR TWO INSERTS. In most they fabricate 3 layers of frame work, put them together and tack weld them! I worked with a heavy equipment mechanic for several years before going to school. I watched him do things that can’t be done! He made his own wrenches. He welded together the biggest earth movers on the planet. These guys repair trucks from scratch. They never go to a junk yard. If it brakes they repair it and put it back on the road. People today will say cast iron can’t be welded and they will not try! It can. I have seen it. I saw him braze a broken cylinder of a motor together. Ask a mechanic if they can do that! The motor ran just like new! 1000s of miles. What I am saying is these mechanics keep these trucks on the road. NO MATTER WHAT AMERICANS JUST DONTDO THAT. It cost too much in labor to repair. I watched one mechanic tap out an ALUMINUM wheel rim bent to hell and weld it, grind it, tap on it, weld it, grind it until it looked like a new rim. Over here that just ain’t gonna happen! What they do in the rest of the world is amazing! They just call it a job!
