@reynoldswalter3 жыл бұрын
@@daltonm6870 I will tell you that your physical therapist is your best friend. They are your trainer. But the MOST IMPORTANT part is doing your exercises even on your own. As much as you can. The first few weeks really sucked. I recommend you keep a calendar. Keep up with your progress. Your ankle and knee are key. If you do not keep them moving and flexible it can never be fixed. I am to the point of walking again. Not like before, but no big limitations. Even if it hurts move your ankle and knee as much as you can. Really it depends on your determination to recover. I feel for you. The calendar will help you see your progress and recovery. Get a stationary bike. Or elliptical you can use off the sofa or chair. Don't overdue it, but be consistent in pushing forward. Record it. I did two minutes on the bike, four minutes, six minutes. Let it happen easily. I wish you the best of luck. It sucks. Hardcore. But you got this!

Hey Marko, I had some knee swelling after the recovery around the 5 month point. Riding my bike and icing it helped, although I didn't have to ice it very much. Strengthening the leg muscles with the bike or lifting would definitely help with the knee pain. also try to relive tension from being sedentary for so long by doing massage or foam roller and stretching on the whole leg.

The incisions above the knee and below appear to be healing well but the one above the ankle still hurt a bit. Putting full weight on the leg cause a lot more pain on the ankle then where it broke. I also can't bend my foot fully forward or backward. I'm wondering if this is normal and is mostly cause by the incision above the ankle or if something is wrong with my ankle. My ankle hurt a bit after the accident but I think I could still bend it before ORIF surgery. Did yours hurt and did you have problem bending your foot forward or backward? Thank you

Don't think you mentioned this, but did you end up going through physical therapy? I'm going basically through the same situation (broken tibia/fibula), though in my case it was CAUSED by skateboarding. I'm goofy and landed a little awkwardly on my back leg when everything went wrong. My driving leg is good, so hopefully I'll be driving soon. I'm a little over 7 weeks in, but still in the boot sadly and still have had little to no weight bearing the whole time. My situation is definitely slower than yours so far, but hope my recovery is as good as yours when it is all said and done!

I did my own physical therapy for the leg on a bicycle stationary trainer and just on a regular bike. However I did do physical therapy for a shoulder which I got surgery on for the same accident that caused the broken tib/fib, which really helped. I would start by exercising the ankle and trying to get full range of motion back there and in your knee. Maybe try walking in a pool first. Best of luck in your healing process!
@caedev8 күн бұрын
@@evadeproductions4255 I don't have a stationary bike sadly. Maybe that is something I can consider getting as my knee's range of motion is still limited to about 90 degrees and I want to work on that. @evadeproductions42553 жыл бұрын
Month 3 or 4 is still pretty fresh, If you can walk then that's good! I would recommend trying to walk every day for around an hour if possible (might be too much pain or swelling). You want to get enough exercise so that your cardiovascular system stays healthy (since that's basically the backbone of all healing in your body). You also want to use the broken leg enough so that you stimulate growth of new bone. The bone will not grow stronger if you do not stress it! So once you feel confident walking, try putting more pressure and once you feel able to, try jogging, jumping, or taking hard steps! For the pain in your knee you should talk to a physical therapist. I can not stress how much the stationary and real bike helped for my healing process though!

Not an easy task right?! But you just need to push through the pain to gain function of the leg. The best thing you can do to stimulate bone growth is to put weight on the broken bone. Did your doctor suggested you if you want the rod and screws to be removed? Or did the doctor say that it can stay forever? I have to make a big decision. He gave me 6 months to decide whether i want it removed or not as in the future if ever im gonna have a fracture again, it might be hard for them to take the rod out, he said. I am just asking people about their opinions as its a tough decision for me. I dont wanna go through surgery again 😔
@evadeproductions42554 жыл бұрын
Milya Yes, he mentioned the possibility of getting the hardware and rod taken out. To me, it doesn’t make sense to take it out. The rod isn’t causing me pain so it isn’t worth the surgery. Also I don’t understand why your surgeon is giving you a time limit to get the rod out, I would think that getting it taken out later, when the bone is 100% healed, would be better than to take it out within 6 months. And yes, if you happened to get in a catastrophic accident where the damage is so severe to break your leg AND bend the rod, it would not be a good time - but I’m sure you know those chances are very low. I choose to keep my rod in and take the benefits of a reinforced leg :D

11 months bro that’s cap and if it’s not I don’t want to wait that long to do sports, walk and run again😫
@shane60353 жыл бұрын
No you'll be able to walk shortly , once they get you in a walking boot you'll be able to walk, it's going to hurt like hell at first, and you'll have a lot of pain for a month or so. Running will take a long long time. It's been months since i've broken my leg and i still can't run. And sports will take a year to get back to, at minimum

Do you have screws in or a rod left in your leg. 1 1/2 month post tibia and fibula break.
@evadeproductions42554 жыл бұрын
@@josh5787 Yes, everything is still in from the surgery except one upper screw that I had removed due to it causing pain.
@mailinh9224 жыл бұрын
Hi, was it a quick outpatient surgery to remove that one upper screw? Thanks.
@evadeproductions42554 жыл бұрын
@@mailinh922 Yes it was outpatient and the surgery only took about an hour. Obviously I was at the hospital for about half the day, just waiting. They used general anesthesia and local anesthetic. The recovery time was about two weeks, but I was able to walk the day of the surgery.
