I've only discovered Brooks yesterday, and already he is blowing my mind. A truly different breed of drummer and drum sound. I've never seen someone play like him before, his technique and execution / delivery is really on a level all of his own. Truly extraordinary and I can't wait to watch more of him play. Honestly, I don't express how in awe I am and excited to hear more.

I was Brooks year at Los Al and loaned him my Christmas gift - a Dave Weckyl instructional drumming video. I was in Chuck's Jazz Band II and he was in Band I obviously. He gave it back to me and said he had learned some chops from it but hated the part where Dave made fun of heavy metal drumming being "no dynamics". Kind of funny how things turned out. I think he won best soloist as a drummer and a freshman in the Reno Jazz festival but it might have been the next year when I was a sophomore. We had a concert with Louis Bellson my freshman year and Brooks went toe to toe with an all time great on the drums. Mind blowing the talent in that family. Chuck was the nicest guy you'll ever meet.

You can't forget about his father right next to him who played with the great Frank Zappa. Chad was FZ longest running drummer. On some great albums like man from utopia, ship arriving to late to save a drowning witch & tinseltown rebellion. Just to name a few . But the best work I've ever heard Brooks wackerman do was with infectious grooves. Their last 2 albums groove family cyco & baracho! Amazingly talented family and Chad Wackerman got I think 2 other brothers that are musicians as well!! One i believe is a is a bass player.

@rippindrummer6663 жыл бұрын
As much as I love Garstka, 90 percent of the stuff he plays would never work in any musical context other than with animals as leaders. The older I get the less I care about technical drum wizards and more about drummers that have good songwriting skills. Also this is a 2 minute video of Brooks, go look up his Instagram, it shows how versatile the guy is.
@puppetmaster85513 жыл бұрын
It’s not just about playing the craziest stuff, he writes fantastic drums for whatever band he’s in while also being very technically skilled, he’s just a great musician and a very skilled drummer.

@@rippindrummer666 spot on, Brooks writes great drums that always fit the music very well while also being very technically impressive as well. He may not be the most technically skilled but as an overall package he does everything at a very high level, the drums on the stage were awesome while still being technically impressive and sounding great with the music. He just recorded the drums for their new album so I cannot wait to hear his drumming and what direction the band takes their sound after the stage.

He plays weird grooves. I don't know why I can't get into his style now. I liked him in Suicidal Tendencies and Bad Religion tho. He left because bad religion got stale and he wanted to join a band that took more advantage of his fantastic skills and avenged was that band. The drumming on the stage album is better than any drumming he did for bad religion. You sound salty as hell too, bad religion is cool and so is avenged sevenfold. He drummed for BR for 20 years and truthfully the band didn’t take advantage of full drumming capabilities while avenged does exactly that. He gets to play far more complex drums now in a more popular band and likely make more money too.
