ColdWarMotors channel restored/rebuilt a hardtop version of that same car, with the same paint job. Same Three-Eighteen poly V-8. I've had several vehicles with the 318 and they are bulletproof.

Wow! I love it! Most beautiful Plymouth ever built. I owned one in 1969. Mine was a 1960 Plymouth Fury 2-door hardtop in Arctic White with two-tone blue interior, same as this car. I loved it! Especially love the hardtop design, flows with the body design in perfect futuristic Exner style!

I love the 1960 Chrysler products , my father had the Imperial Lebaron , the interior was amazing , and the big smiling grill really set it apart from anything else on the road

Dad had one in 1960, Red with white soft top 383 2x4s cross Ram, 3 speed hurst, manual trans, factory blow shield, dual exhaust, came with factory victrola record player, played the 45s upside down, Mom would drive us to elem school, she would go from 1st to 3rd skip 2nd gear all the time ! Dad sold to my uncle he drag raced it some, blew the motor sold it for $300 dollars somtime in the 1970s Wish I had it today

I remember these a little kid when they were new. Not too many of them then, and very few convertibles. Folks loved them and raved about the splendid ride.

Those were thought to be so odd looking at the time. My dad was in the car business in that era and you couldn't give those away. But thru today's eyes they are beautiful and highly desirable.

The 1960 Plymouth was well received by the public in America through a successful marketing campaign. The 1961 Plymouth was the bizarre, freaky looking one that they couldn't give away.

Fender skirts are popular for not only for 1960 Plymouth Fury, but also for 1960 Mercury Park Lane, Montclair, and even the low priced Monterey models, especially on all body styles, even back in 1960. Rear fender skirts back in the mid-1930s through early 1950s gives it more streamlined look and to hide the rear wheels partially, but for later models from mid-1950s through the 1980s, fender skirts also partially hide the rear wheels for more sleeker look.

Very nice presentation of an excellent Plymouth Fury. I drive a 1996 Dodge Dakota which has a final generation of the 318cu.in. engine. Absolutely a real fine bullet proof engine. It just purrs. Thanks for a great video. Nice to listen to your accent too reminding me of my grandfather Edgar S. Tolmie, born in Glasgow, Scotland, emigrated to the US when he was 16. Never lost his accent.

Absolutely beautiful. Like another commenter said on here, this is my favorite Plymouth of all time as well. I probably would not choose a convertible though since I wear a hairpiece! Hahahaha! But I would make an exception if I had this one in your video! I love tail fins. When I was a kid I didn't know any better and called them "ears!" Lol. I used to love looking at all the different styles of "ears" on different models of cars. Slowly as the years went by, I started noticing that I didn't see many "ears" on cars anymore, and it was disappointing to me. Wish they would make a retro looking car of some kind today with "ears!"

I love this model along with the 58 Fury. I even liked it when they took the fins off the back in 61. I wish the had carried the smooth sides all the way from front to rear, thus making a smoother transition into the 1960s.

My dad bought one when we lived in Michigan used 1 year old in 1961. It had the 354 cu. inch hemi v-8 with dual quad tunnel rams. It was known as plummers' nightmare. the 354 was terrible on gas, 7 mpg city and 9 on the highway. 400 hp, though. My mom said it would pass anything but a gas station! My dad sold it in 1964 for $700 to a neighbor to buy a '63 Caddy for $3800. I never knew they made the trusty 318 as a a hemi though!

There was no 354 Plymouth engine. In 1960, there were only three V8 engines offered by Plymouth: the 318, introduced in 1957, the 361 Poly, and the 383.

@@TheDejael It was the dual four barrel hemi with "tunnel ram". the intake manifolds were nearly 4 feet long and crossed each other over the center of the engine. It was an Indy Pace car! But we would have been much better off with the legendary 318. Enough performance with good fuel economy, simplified maintenance, and durability! Anyway, I remember those days when it was new, and not everyone can say that!

I would remove the tailpipe extensions and have the exhaust exit under the bumper only slightly exposed. The car is GORGEOUS!!!

2:42 Chrysler Corporation tested these tailfins in wind tunnels, and they make a significant contribution to straight line stability at highway speeds.

Find were very much on the way out in 1960. They shrunk on many cars but seemed to grow on Chrysler products.

I wouldn’t want to be driving the Fury if a new car brake checked me. If I got away with just a broken nose and jaw, I’d be doing well. Beautiful cars, terrible occupant survivability in a crash.

In 1957, one of the ads for Chrysler Corporation's Plymouth Fury proclaimed, "Suddenly it's 1960!" In 1960, critics observed the Fury for that year and said, "Suddenly it's 1957!"

I remember when I was young a guy had one in red and white...he also had a Desoto...neither would fit in his garage and he couldn't build a bigger garage so he had a guy build an extention to his existing garage (only 1/2 the height of the garage) so he could put the car in...he always referred to it as a kick out...😂 beautiful cars though...he'd wax and polish every weekend when the weather was nice...it would take him the whole day...😂

My family had a 1957 Plymouth. It was the worst car my dad ever owned. The paint began to deteriorate almost immediately and when it was disposed of there were rust holes in the body. He suffered with it until 1960 until he traded it in on a then new 1960 Chevy that is still with the family.

please. most of these rotted away to nothing and were scrapped. we're lucky if 2% of the still exist in drive able condition.

Interesting as a curious survivor, but in 1960, Chrysler was committing suicide with hideous and ridiculous cars. Salesmen liked to claim the fins added stability, but in fact, having nearly a square meter of sheet metal standing at the extreme end of the vehicle made them highly unstable in crosswinds. Starting in 1957, Plymouths became know for abysmal build quality; few people who bought a Plymouth in 1957 ever bought another one. Brock Yates once describe Plymouth's finish this way: "It looks like it was painted with a broom and left to dry in a hay field." Having the best base V8-automatic powertrain did not overcome the extreme "styling," and the worst was yet to come. As has been said, "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone." And police departments used Plymouths and Dodges not because they were wonderful cars, but because Chrysler sales were so poor that their fleet cars were always the cheapest. This is an amazing example of a car that drew gasps at its introduction; the same kind of gasps that greeted the Pontiac Aztec.

So many cars were bizzaro from that era. Ford had Edsels, then there were late fifties Lincoln's, gaudy Cadillacs, over chromed Buicks and Oldsmobile models. I've really never liked 58 to 61 Chevies. But that's all subjective. It's also nice to see near perfect examples of them 65 years on. They were fun for their time even with all the excesses.and styling.
