Almost a quarter of a million Tatars, an ethnically Turkic people indigenous to the Crimea , were moved to Soviet Central Asia in 1944 because of Stalin. Half of them died in the journey. Jamala is singing for her ancestors. That's what makers this song so emotional and special. Big love from Turkey🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇺🇦

Hello from Ukraine, thank you for your reaction, you are very sensitive and compassionate. Now the war in Ukraine is 2 months old, thousands, tens of thousands of people have died, Russians have raped everyone they see, and then killed, destroyed cities. It's very scary. Glory to Ukraine 🇺🇦

Back then, in 2016, it was dedicated to the Crimean Tatars, whom Stalin took from their home in Crimea. Many died in freight cars of trains that were filled with people. After February 24, it is a dedication to all Ukrainians, who living in a war, started by the followers of Stalin and Hitler. Thank you for your reaction from Ukraine 🇺🇦

The song talks about the deportation of the Crimean Tatars in 1944. Jamala heard stories about this event from her grandmother Nazilkhan, who survived the deportation. Then, on the way, 8000 thousand people officially died, but in fact, several times more. A laughing reaction is inappropriate. Thanks for that?

That wasn’t Ukranian language btw, nor the music style. It was Crimean Turkic. Which is why it sounds Middle Eastern.
@Ahmed-pf3lg
@Ahmed-pf3lg 3 жыл бұрын
@Salty Granny Middle Eastern is harsh sounding? Go fix your brain and ears. First of all this sounds Middle Eastern because of the music, not the language. The music is definitely Middle Eastern in origin. Second of all Turkic languages are WAY harsher than Semitic languages. Have you ever heard a Kazakh talk?? Go fix your ears. Also Hebrew is literally a a German trying to speak Arabic. That’s why it sounds harsh. While Arabic sounds very soft and beautiful.

Fair use info at the beginning is meaningless since fair use is a location-based law. If the video you used is not created in the US, you need to check fair use of the location it was. For example, Japan has no fair use laws in place.

This is a very political and historical song of the treatment of the Tatars and their deportation in 1944 on the hand of the Communists in the Soviet Union. Jamala's father is a Tatar and her mother Armenian from Karabakh in the Caucasus. The song also contains Crimean Tatari language (very Turkish / Turkic actually). Eurovision rules forbid political songs but they allowed this because there was huge anti-Russian feeling in 2016. Its win was very political because the much better Russian song was downed by an amazing number of biased juries who didn't give any points to the Russian guy Sergey Lazarev and poured all their points for this Jamala song. They were just voting against Russia actually because of the Russian occupation and annexation of Ukrainian lands. So they punished Russia's Lazarev. Every time the Russians got any point in the live vote, the public was booing Lazarev. I just couldn't watch anymore. Still Lazarev remained humble and moved on despite public reaction to the bitter end. Jamala is Ukrainian and they wanted her to win by all means. Jurors gave Lazarev 130 points and Jamala 211 points (+81 points)!! The public gave Lazarev 361 points and gave Jamala only 323 points only (minus 38) making it a margin of unbelievable 119 points. Incredible. Actually 21 country jurors of 42 countries gave 0 points to Russia and another 2 countries just 1 point out of 12 to Russia. Zero points for such an awesome performance? (Links below). I just cannot believe. Just do the math between the viewers and the jurors vote. I am not saying this Jamala song is a bad song, but it is no Eurovision song and not many European radios played it after the win. It was forgotten as soon as it won the contest. Whereas the radios play to this day the Sergey Lazarev Russian song that was the public vote winner. It was called "You Are the Only One". It finished third overall after Ukraine and Australia
@Tabris93
@Tabris93 3 жыл бұрын
To nuance this: The song was allowed because the lyrics was historical, it was about the Russian invasion from 1944 (hence the title). However, of course, most people knew similar things were happening in modern times. Even though the Eurovison isn't supposed to be political, I am glad the people of Europe were allowed - in a non-violent way - to show their support to Ukranian today.

Russia and a good song at ESC... it's been a while since Russia was really good... Maybe in 2012... Maybe. sergay loserev is one of the most overrated performers at ESC. Thank god that jurors didn't get tricked much by all those smoke and mirrors that tried to hide the fact that sergay didn't have a song to begin with. 2016 was such an awful year to be honest... That's why Ukraine won. The song is fine... But it's not a winning song by default.
@teo_heel
@teo_heel 3 жыл бұрын
PS. The real reason why Russia didn't win is that Philipp Kirkorov spent money on all those smoke and mirrors and he didn't payed jurors, because all those smoke and mirrors cost him all his money. This is the reason why I hate Russia at ESC. All those smoke and mirrors for nothing...
@silsilsilly
@silsilsilly 3 жыл бұрын
I didnt like the russian song, i think the Russian song was cheesy and overrated and the staging was clearly " inspired " by a previous winner and distracting from the song. In my opinion because of the staging it was one of the favorites. Russia has sent better songs in the past. I am from west europe so not from Ukraine or from Russia, and it was my first time ever voting in eurovision, because this song gave me goosebumps, and it does again every time i see it. The singing, storytelling and staging is really good and not distracting from the story she is telling. It's like she is putting all her emotions on stage. I don't hate Russia. I just think Ukraine won fair and square that year.

For Russia it is political song because Russia still is international enemy of liberty, repeating repression in annexed Crimea. For the rest of countries it is historical song.
