I think the point of Dreadnought II not taking a barbette is it's meant to built as a battle hexagon again, those massive cut-outs look like they can take a 11" or 12" turret. Also, the narrow forecastle doesn't look like it would lend itself well to housing a larger barbette. And also you were using the "wide superfiring barbette" on the other design, but tried to go for the large round ones for the Dread2.

Re: Design of the La Motte-Picquet class of Croiseurs éclaireur. Personnel de l'Amirauté: Division de construction navale: Bureau de conception: Rapport de bureau: 12-Dec-1905 The La Motte-Picquet class will consist of eight Croiseurs éclaireur designed to a target displacement of 9,000 tons and a top speed of 30 knots. The class has three turbine engines powered by naturally aspirated boilers burning coal vented though four funnels generating 55,580 indicated horsepower turning two screws for the required top speed on a design displacement of 8,908 tons fully loaded with a balanced rudder turned by electric engines for an operational range of 8,509 kilometers. The class carries petrol auxiliary engines for emergency power. The class' main battery is four single turrets super firing two fore and two aft bearing 155mm/50 Mark 3 guns with 180mm face, 50mm top, 80mm barbette HADIR Cemented armor, turned by electric engines with enhanced reloading, using the new Coincidence range finders, and with advanced flash fire protective systems. The main magazine carries a balanced standard load of standard sized 50% Base Fuze HE and 50% capped AP shells using Poudre B as the propellant and TNT as the bursting charge. The secondary battery consists of six single 80mm/32 Mark 3 gun mounts. The secondary magazine carries a HE heavy standard load of standard sized 62.5% Base Fuze HE and 37.5% capped AP shells. Four underwater torpedo tubes launching 460mm Mark 2 compressed air aided torpedoes rounds out the armament. HADIR* Cemented armor is clade 80mm on the main belt, 40mm on the extended belt, 3mm on the inner belt, 25mm on the main deck, 25mm on the extended deck, 3mm on the inner deck, 40mm on the superstructure, and 180mm on the conning tower. The Class has a double bottom hull, reinforced bulkheads separating extensive compartmentation, counter-flooding systems to avoid listing, pumps and piping for flooding reduction, and improved anti-torpedo bulges. A crew of 628 officers and enlisted men will be provided standard quarters. The class carries advanced radio communication systems. The class will consist of the lead ship La Motte-Picquet, De Grasse, D'Estaing, Isly, Jean de Vienne, Lalande, Magon, and Descartes. Build time will be 12 months with a commissioning time of 2 months. Cost per ship will be $47,409,320, and monthly maintenance in port of $2,228,238. * A Franco-Belgian consortium, HADIR (Hauts-fourneaux et aciéries de Differdange, St-Ingbert, Rumelange), has developed a new armor cementing process, forcing carbon bearing gases into chromium alloyed steel plate to a depth of 30% of the thickness at high temperatures, then quenching the surface rapidly to produce a hard face and pliable back that resists shell penetration while reducing spalling on the back. HADIR Cemented Armor is replacing Harvey armor in all our future builds.

Expressive, if not Persuasive Le Républicain Provence, Marseille MCMVI, 10 December 1906 Grande ammiraglio Luigi Hazon of the Regina Marina came to visit Paris on a good will tour. He tried, of some evoking their sympathy, of others straining their patience. The fact the Regina Marina continues to subscribe to the Jeune École yet has not developed a Destroyer torpilleur does nothing to endear him to officers of the Marine Nationale. Politicians, who can say? Parisienne, apparently a bit too much.

Battle of Xiamen Le Républicain Provence, Marseille MCMV, 11 December 1905 The Bruix, lead of her Croiseur Cuirassés class, from the Fort Bayard Base navale régionale in Kwang-Chou-Wan, escorted by two Aspirant Herber class Destroyers torpilleur from the Haiphong Station navale in Tonkin, the Sape and the Mistral, was on anti-commerce patrol in the Taiwan Strait off the port of Xiamen when they encountered the Shaanxi class Croiseur Cuirassés 1890 refit Andong, survivor of the Battle of Shantou, escorting the Changsha class 4.6 thousand ton 18 manned unarmed Navire de transport. Bruix spotted the trace of funnel smoke from two ships to the north. She sent the Sape and Mistral forward to scout while she came up at best speed. Sape sighted the Navire de transport first, but Andong soon appeared closing on the three raiders. Sape headed for Andong, aiming to cut across her course and launch torpedoes. Bruix reached out with her 180mm guns and got the first hit on Andong. Andong was using her 261.6mm guns to try and stop the Destroyers torpilleur before they became Destroyers croiseur. Sape launched her two torpedoes at about 1.5 kilometers. Andong immediately replied. One of Sape’s torpedoes hit Andong on her aft belt. Andong’s torpedo hit Sape on her main belt. Mistral launched her torpedoes, and one hit but was a dud. Andong tried to align her forward torpedo tube on the two Destroyers torpilleur while Bruix turned towards Andong to conduct her own torpedo run. Mistral was turning north to close on the Navire de transport while Sape turned south to retire. While Bruix closed she and Andong attempted to exchange fire, with Bruix getting one minor hit, before Bruix attempted a torpedo launch. One of her two port torpedoes went off towards the Navire de transport while the other headed towards Andong. But two more 180mm hits, on top of the damage done by Sape, sank the Andong with 366 of her 390 man crew. With a 14 knot advantage on Changsha, Mistral soon overcame the Navire de transport and sank her with 7 of her 18 man crew, 11 men jumping off when they saw two torpedoes from Mistral heading in to finish the ship. The Chinese Merchant Marine had lost another 4.6 thousand tons of shipping, which they could ill afford. Sape had taken 5 casualties. The 11 survivors of Changsha and the 24 of Andong were picked up.

Battle of Hualien Le Républicain Provence, Marseille MCMVI, 18 June 1906 In a bid to end the war with the Soviet Union the Chinese Republic has turned over power to the Chinese Communist Party. This move is greatly upsetting to the populace of the nation of China, and unrest is rising. Meanwhile the invasion of Formosa has concluded successfully, with one last battle off the Philippine Sea of the east coast of Formosa near the port of Hualien. The Bruix, lead of her Croiseur Cuirassés class, and the Tricolore class Croiseur Léger Tage, both from the Fort Bayard Base navale régionale in Kwang-Chou-Wan, were on patrol off the coast when they were attacked by two Shaanix class Croiseurs Cuirassés, the Xikang and Gansu, and the Y-1, lead ship of her Torpilleur class. Bruix and Tage spotted funnel smoke to the north. All ships were denied entry into the blockade area around Formosa, and all friendly movements were coordinated under coded traffic, so the presence of such smoke indicated hostiles. Bruix and Tage went to general quarters and closed on the enemy. Bruix opened fire when she identified the two Chinese Croiseurs Cuirassés. Then they sighted Y-1 and opened fire on her. Xikang led Gansu on the approach to Bruix and Tage with Y-1 trying to close as well. Tage had gotten closer to the enemy and was shocked when Bruix launched torpedoes across her stern at the same moment Tage launched her starboard torpedoes. Four of Tage’s torpedoes hit, but two were duds. The other two were on Xikang’s fore belt. Xikang quickly began to flood forward. Bruix’s two torpedoes arrived and both were good, hitting Xikang amidships. Xikang quickly began flooding the rest of her compartments and sank with 249 of her 273 man crew. Tage put her guns on Y-1 while Bruix targeted Gansu. Y-1 sank with all but one of her 19 crew. Both Bruix and Tage began to turn to port to bring their port tubes in line on Gansu. Bruix put five 180mm shells into Gansu then finished her with a torpedo from her aft underwater tube. Gansu sank with 255 of her 237 man crew. Bruix and Tage picked up 43 Chinese survivors who reported disaffection with the change of government in their homeland. Neither Bruix nor Tage had been hit.

Are there changes made to research by your mod? Research isn't the worst thing in UAD, but it's definitely got its issues. Like the fact that placing one of your priorities on research craters your research for every other tech category; it never works out to being cost effective in the base game, given that you'll gain, on say a 20 month tech, maybe 10-12 months faster progress, but you'll lose several months on every other tech. With maybe 30 other tech options, you end up sacrificing dozens or hundreds of months of research speed for one tech. As I understand it, it gets even worse with the second and third priority. The way the game describes it, it's a resource to be used as you see fit, as a way of shaping the technologies your nation specializes in. In practice, it's a way to guarantee that you'll be vastly behind in almost every tech except for the 1-3 techs you prioritize. Or, like you mention, the game has a set queue of techs, leaving you to research a bunch of technologies you'll never use before rolling the tech you actually want on a ship. Instead of getting 14in Mark 3 guns, you get a Mark 1 15, 16, or 17in gun that's practically useless. I think in an ideal world, each tech would have a few lines of research, and you would get to place a priority on specific sub-branches of the technology category. So as an example, rangefinders would have lines for coincidence rangefinders and stereoscopic rangefinders, where you can decide if your country will specialize in one or the other. You could choose a general route, that would function like the game does now and rotate between tech options, and it would progress faster overall, but compared to someone who specialized in, say, stereoscopic rangefinders, you would have say, 1 generation worse of those. But, you would unlock the passive upgrades faster, and have maybe a 3rd generation coincidence and stereoscopic option, while the specialized researcher would have 4th generation stereo, but only gen 1 coincidence. I think it'd be fair to have pre-requisite technologies, so you can't just specialize in something like high caliber battleship guns like 16, 17, and 18in guns, without having first unlocked at least early-generation smaller calibers, but once you unlocked a caliber, you could begin to specialize your research in that particular gun. You would, again, end up with less overall research efficiency, but you would accelerate your research of a specialized technology.

Yes there are several changes to research in the mod, tech spread is higher and the ahead/behind mechanic is set to 5 years which should make the nations closer together in tech than in vanilla.

With no authorities which with to negotiate an end of the war, the Flotte de Brest is being broken up, with the most modern Cuirassé de 1er Rang heading back to Brest and the older ships moving to Fort Bayard to ensure that piracy and terrorist regimes don’t emerge. Losses on Formosa have not been fully counted, but French losses are likely close to 20 thousand and Chinese losses over 52 thousand.

Successful conclusion to the Sino-French war. Sad to see the Republic fall into Communism and then warlordism.

Left Wing Majority Questions Naval Budget Le Républicain Provence, Marseille MCMVII, 14 January 1907 The Radical Socialists, in a coalition of left wing parties now the majority in the Chamber of Deputies, have asked the Premier amiral de France, head of the Marine Nationale, to defend the funding levels of the Fleet. Believing as he does that a sound economy is the key to national security, the Premier amiral actually endorsed the Radical Socialists full agenda.
