i found the A5 at a pawn shop some 18 years ago, bought it and presented it to my father on his birthday.he looked at me and thanked me and then said where in the world did you find this( magnum model,30"bbl,walnut stocks but a flat grip cap,full choke 3"chamber) he used to talk about it when i was a boy and always said it was a work of art. i just said "you're welcome dad". we have BOTH taken deer and turkey with it and never a problem...BRAVO Mr Browning!

the history of how these guns came to be manufactured in Belgium is quite interesting. Winchester and Remington both had the chance to produce it first and missed out. these things are fabulous!

Je possède un auto 5 super allégé limité à 3 coups avec un bois flatteur clair et bien veiné .Ayant égaré la notice j'avais oublié le placement de la bague pour les charges lourdes.Je vais donc le faire pour le tir des balles car j'utilise mon auto 5 en battue.En effet lorsque la bague est positionnée en mode léger ,ça tape fort avec les balles ! Amicalement .

As a young boy this was one of the first shotguns I ever fired. After that my love for the gun and its design have blossomed. I have several belgian A5s to include a 1974, 20ga unfired which is awaiting my young sons first venture of shot gunnery someday soon. Interestingly enough, while on active duty (1991 circa) performing work on Misawa AB, I stumbled across a common flea market type sale on the base. I found several Auto 5's for sale. On my budget at the time, I bought 2 (one was belgian 12 ga,for $125 the other was an unknown japanese origin Auto 5 for $67). I filed the ATF papers and sent them home. After close inspection I noticed the japanese version had no definitive detailed markings other than the initials "KFC". We joked that it must have been the Col. Sanders humble beginnings…LOL Assumedly I thought it might be a diawa but many experts on the A5 have no idea either. Well the gun itself is a perfect A5 copy, same parts, pieces etc. The function was also identical to include the magazine cutoff. To keep this short, I wonder if anyone on this thread has seen the KFC designator before or has knowledge of the KFC? My conclusion on this gun maybe to the assumption that this was one of the initial copies before Japan started their production? I do not claim to be an expert just very curios indeed.

Remington made also the M11 exact copy of the Auto-5, also called the "american browning"

Remington made a model that used the same operation of recoil, the one that I know of is the 11-48 in 16ga

@pcharden my Browning A5 16ga is a 1953 european model, serial number starting with X, with no engravings but Browning Head ! No speedloading...

Loved your video and thank you for making it. Hoping you can help me with a problem. I recently purchased a 1955 Belgium Browning 12 gauge that looks to be clean and in very good condition. I fired 5 shells through it, worked fine. Now, 1 week later it won't cycle the shells through it. I tried moving the position of the friction ring and it didn't help. Shells I'm using are what I had on hand, (Federal, 8 shot, 2-3/4"). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Phil I have the same gun, made about the same time. I'm not sure if it's a Sweet 16 though because it doesn't have a gold trigger. Have you ever shot yours? If so, where do you buy shells? Mine uses 65 mm shells, which is slightly over 2.5 inches, and they are very hard to find.

Remington model is different. Parts will not interchange. But still a variant of the Browning patient.

bonjour et Merci pour votre vidéo trés intéréssante.J'ai hérité d'un Auto 5 en bon état général que j'ai soigneusement nettoyé et huilé.Afin de tester le mécanisme avec 3 cartouches inertes,celui-ci est bloqué.La culasse ne s'ouvre pas.Les 3 cartouches sont dedans mais aucune éjection possible.Avez vous une idée ? c'est le gaz qui fait reculer la culasse c'est pour cela qu'il y a autant perte de gaz dans un automatique et qu'il y en a moins dans un superposée juxtaposée ou dreling

Mint condition 70's would be worth from $4-$600 I have a 1957 Belgian made. Not so much in mint condition as it was handed down from my grandfather. Mint, mine would be worth $8-$900 being Belgian made "under who is now known a FNH" Fabrique Nationale Herstal. I believe 1958 was the last production year for browning and fnh. My suggestion is don't sell it, I'm certainly not selling mine.

Négatif! C'est pas les gaz mais l'inertie sur le browning A5 qui fait reculer la culasse. Les fusil à échappements de gaz sont venus bien après... Aucune perte dans le Browning A5... PS: d'ailleurs la perte dans les fusils à échappements de gaz est infinitésimale !
