The Alpiner isn't really a dive watch, I think they market it more as an "adventure" watch. That's an important distinction for its 100m water resistance. Alpina makes the Seastrong for diving.

I have the Alpiner 4 and love it. I really like the 44/45mm case. I only have a 7.5 wrist but I'm a bigger guy over all 6'1 and 230lbs so it feels like that helps larger watches fit me better than smaller watches. The smallest I'm comfortable wearing is 40mm but the size of the Alpiner 4 is just right!

I bought Alpiner 4 at a discount of about 30 %. I paid a little bit more than 1000 Eur. I have a 7.1-inch wrist, but this 44 mm watch somehow fits my wrist. I bought the watch on the stainless steel bracelet, so I am not used to heavier stainless steel watches. My daily watch until now was a titanium Citizen Quartz watch. I feel the difference in weight. My Alpiner 4 has a matte black dial. I like the watch. Especially because it is anti-magnetic and anti-shock. It is a great sports watch. For that price, it is worth it. I like it. In the future, I will try to save money for the automatic Alpiner 4 chronograph. The good affordable watches have also ORIS.

Thanks for the review. I own this watch and love it. First off, it is not a dive watch- if you want a dive watch from Alpina they make the Seastrong. Second, the Alpiner 4 is 44mm and at least for me wears like a 42. The Seastrong is also a 44mm watch. I love both of them.

i never had Alpina watches, but I have heard a lot of good things about the watch. yes, 45mm is too big for most of people, but I believe there are many 40 to 41mm watches in their line up. Bruce, do you know what type of movement this watch is using? the website says Caliber AL525. is this Alpina's own developed movement? or Modified movement from some ETA, SW movement? kind of curious to know. thanks for great review again. bruce. have a good day.

@@BruceWilliams hi bruce, i forgot to ask you one more. besides invicta that makes ridiculous sized watches, as we all know, there aren't that much of market for 45mm and over. Well, apparently there are, but still for a well known and respected brand name like Alpina, 45mm is very unusually big and I am sure that even themselves know that it will sell better at 40mm or so. do you know or can you guess why they have made 45mm for this type of watches?

If I ever were to dive with a watch I would 100% buy a Casio Duro, you can't beat 200m of water resistance for 40-50 bucks and now that I see this diver being "only" 100m while costing 800-1400$ well... It's funny people are arguing about the size. If Alpina made the watch in several sizes then everyone would be happy. I personally prefer 39 on watches with rotating bezels, 38 on ones with fixed bezels. They have a new Alpiner quartz from Baselworld 2019 that looks like an Aqua Terra and I'm hoping they would make it eventually in 38 with an auto movement.
