Couple things: Why is there no Whitney? I didn't feel comfortable evaluating someone who's sadly no longer with us. Jazmine, Yebba Well, I'm not sure if they really fall in the 'pop' category so they're not here. Natalie Weiss is not a pop singer technically, but she's covered a ton of pop songs and she teaches pop vocal. She literally had a series where she's has broken down some of the most iconic pop vocal runs. Leigh-Anne, Dinah Jane They could be here, true. However, it's an over 30 minutes video and there's no way someone wouldn't get left out unfortunately.

The thing about vocal agility is that it's not just about riffs and runs, it's also about how fast a singer shifts registers. Mariah has been doing it effortlessly, it's like she's a roller coaster. She shifts from chest to head, falsetto, and whistle or the other way around, she even doesit back and forth. It's like climbing a 20 step stair in one or less than a second.

In my opinion, Beyonce is perfect with maximum mark, but Mariah is way beyond perfection. She is phenomenal and incomparable. She can implement runs with 13notes/s, 53notes/s or 5-6 transistions. She can also add many colorature-ish techniques or vocal dynamics when doing melisma (you can check it on showcase of If only you knew/somewhere over the rainbow performance)

Alot of people seem to forget that in the same way that Mariah as a star-rated songwriter gets overlooked due to how much of a star-rated vocalist she is, is the same way that Beyoncé as a star-rated vocalist gets overlooked due to her being one of the greatest live performers of all time. Beyoncé's musicality has improved so much over the years compared to her DC years and with Mariah, is truly the upper echelon of what a vocalist (male or female) should aspire to be. @@shadowcArey I said what I said. Her voice isn't cumbersome, indeed there ARE voices bigger than hers. But in a list of agile singers, she's easily a step apart in that category. Her chest voice is extremely robust after maturing past her 20s. The sound is big, I don't mean in volume though there has been an increase there. Listen to the acapella take of Freedom during FWT, the earth shattering eb5s from OTR, D5s from OTRII, the song Spirit from The Gift. Her Mezzo-forte is bigger than these other singers Fortissimo. The exception on this list is Jennifer Hudson whose voice is both loud and big, while Beyonce is moderate and big. Prior to her vocal maturity around 2008-2011 I would have put Beyonce as moderate in both volume and breadth.

@@yaimiana Bey's voice has great volume output but her voice has never been heavy. Her vibrato was heavy early on and still can be as she switches it on and off. But Bey's voice has always been lighter to medium. Her voice now has more depth in the low chest but as she travels to mid/high chest her voice goes back to a lighter/bright sound. It's vibrato and huskiness that makes the voice sound weightier but it isn't a heavy voice. Jennifer's voice is heavier throughout every part of their compared range. The lightness of Bey's voice and the fact that vibrato carried much of her vocals aided her in being as nimble and agile as she's Known to be as a vocalist.

I think the list was really well built, and I agree with the chosen of Mariah and Bey on the same place. I'm a hardcore lamb myself, and is very clear that Bey deserve that spot. The only thing that I'll point is that they are (for me, at least) in different places of perfection, when it comes to vocal agility. Beyoncé is a technical perfection, everyone should take notes from her performances to learn how to do perfects riffs and runs like crazy. She reached in her league, and the way she uses her technique will never be replicated. And I should point that she even uses vocal dinamics in the middle of the runs. Truly a masterpiece. Mariah otherwise is a raw perfection. Like, really, you can't name a Mariah song that don't have at least one iconic run or riff. The way that she decorates her songs with little intricate runs that you probably only discover after listen many and many and many times is surreal. The runs are in the climax, in the verses, in the intro, in the outro, and, why not, even in the melody of her art. Again, this will never be replicated, and I'm grateful for having Mariah as my favorite singer of all time.

@@toshiro8997 they sound more complex since her runs are slower paced so you hear the crazy notes going up, down, here, there. But mariah’s are so fast and musically respectful with the overall melody that you don’t even notice. I can practice beyonce’s runs if i listen and study it well but i can never attempt most mariah runs even if i study and break down her runs. Mariah’s runs are musically flowing in the song, whereas beyonce’s runs are “in your face” and assertive in a way. Mariah still technically has the most complex runs in any artist’s catalogue.

@Day Honestly, the only one who's embarrassing is you. I honestly can't believe there's someone out there who really thinks Camila of all people has better riffs/runs than Dinah when she has gone off-pitch a lot of times and her runs lack precision. And her musicality definitely isn't as good as Dinah's, especially when you consider how extra Camila is. As far as Little Mix is concerned, the same goes for Leigh-Anne and Jade. Jade's musicality and pitch are better than Leigh's but she still has more messy moments because her runs also lack precision at times. So, instead of publicly trashing Leigh and Dinah, why don't you actually take a look at some of their live vocals?
