I like how you said you have to hack your life. I frequently put things, or throw things, where I know they will be in my way later so I will remember to take care of them or put them away. Roommates think it's weird, but it really helps me.

Honestly thanks so much for making this - I was recently diagnosed and had no idea I had adhd. Seeing how you are still able to manage so many spinning plates has given me a lot of hope. I’m so determined to find coping mechanisms so I can finally meet goals that have been so confusingly out of reach for me so far. I know you have a lot of videos on how you manage workflow but if you need ideas for adhd content I’d be really interested to see an in-depth explanation of any of these systems - calendar/ task master etc. I have such a problem sticking to any one organisation system that, crucially, I feel I can trust. Thanks for this video - honestly you’ve made me feel a lot more hopeful about adhd than most other creators on here!

Dude. Mind=blown. I do half of this stuff already and the rest are great tips! Thanks so much! New sub! Would also love a ADHD+programming video (I always struggle with context switching from implementing one feature to another etc). Also, any tips on how to use digital notes/calendar without getting distracted? I keep going between paper and digital because digital is more convenient, but I always open my to-do and then an hour goes by and I don't know what happened (for example a quick wiki search led to more wikipedia, youtube, etc).

I am honestly blown away by how many things you say and do, the behaviors, quirks, self learned tricks, etc. That i can see myself in. Many of the unusual things you do are the exact same things i do. Putting your keys on the food in the fridge for example is me all day. Its amazing. I own 2 businesses and have significant attention deficit and without odd and unusual hacks, i literally wouldnt survive and my businesses would both fail for sure. For the first time in adult life, ive finally decided to medicate and hopefully better manage my ADD, (i dont have the HD part).. thanks for making this content and sharing your story!

I’ve also noticed I naturally created solutions much like yours but I lack dicipline so now knowing all this I will push myself to be disciplined. Mind you I am unmedicated and have been for the last 28 years. I know I should write things down and put them in my reminders because it messes with my productivity at work as well as my memory. Haha I love feeling understood, I used to carry my keys around as a necklace because I would always lose them, living with other people makes it so things inevitably move from where you left them and that was my foolproof method of ensuring I would always have my car keys when I’d need them, and some of my friends would ridicule me for it, but they really don’t get it, like I grew up thinking that I was just inevitably “quirky” or something maybe wasn’t right with me because I just did many things differently and it wasn’t until very recently that I figured out I’ve just been dealing with adhd and all these “quirks” were my adaptations to functioning in our society.

Great video Bryan! Very recognizable! Concerning doing too much: have you ever thought about the concept of ‘todo budget’? It’s something I started thinking of: What is my todo budget? What can I actually handle? And how do I get to know what that ‘budget’ is, so I can say: “Nope, not taking this thing into my life, because I’m out of budget”. Curious what you think of this! Greetings from the Netherlands! 🇳🇱 👍

Damn, this is the first time I hear someone else doing the things I found out helped me manage life. I was always wondering how people around me could do without these systems in place. But I guess their brains can handle it - or maybe they are stressed all the time because of that - idk xD What helped me BIG TIME was implementing what Andrew Huberman mentions in his "ADHD & improving focus" podcast episode. Hint: daily intake of flaxseeds (best omega-3 source), no sugar, and meditation (don't be afraid, he explains a very doable and enjoyable routine) are a GAMECHANGER.

I do a similar thing with my keys. I always leave them stuck in the door and I have a carabiner on them so I can just mount them to my belt loop and have them in my left back pocket. And I always lock the door when I come home, so I have to touch the keys if I want to leave and can’t leave them inside. Never lost or forgot my keys since I started doing that.

The website Totally ADD is a great source of info and self testing. It was started and run by comedians who have ADHD. My husb didn’t get DX until mid 60s and therapy plus Vyvanse, change in diet and lifestyle were game changers. He wishes he did it much younger. Good luck all. There is light. PS the key thing is very common with ADHD and works great as part of having routine and structure. We’ve used Our Groceries app for yrs. It’s simple to use for all types of lists and stores items to be taken on or off and will org by group or category. I’ll look at yours too.

i feel like just about everyone tells me to use a calendar and sometimes i feel like it would help, i just have absolutely no idea how to get it going. like for example, my current task management system is kind of a mix between habitica and todoist. so now what do i put on my calendar? i have no idea. the only thing i use a calendar for now is birthdays, i have 3 reminders for each birthday (and i still forget to wish ppl birthdays after that lmao) and that's about it. other than that, i really can't see how i can use a calendar in my mind, it feels like a "okay so calendar is just an alternate to a to do list kinda workflow" but i've seen so many people use calendars and todo lists and i have no idea how people distinguish between them and like what things go in which one

I was recently diagnosed and I'm making so many connections as to why I have done things the way I do. I ALWAYS put my keys in the same spot, and if someone moves them, I will never find them. I have always set alarms for me to remember stuff like putting the trash can out in the street on trash day. I discovered todoist from one of your videos too and omg!🤌 Game changer! Knowing I do have ADHD has been great because now I know how to better strategize how I approach things that my 🧠 sucks at. Bryan, what are the impacts for you when your organization or techniques to manage ADHD either fail or encounter to much for them to handle? Does this translate into anxiety or escalating frustration? I am curious if it ever devolves into any form of anger. How do you handle this if it does occur? Thanks!

> "... anxiety or escalating frustration?" Yes > "I am curious if it ever devolves into any form of anger." YES > "How do you handle this if it does occur?" @@BryanJenks Thanks for that response, I can relate pretty well. Digital systems and hardware don't really trigger the RSD, but humans can. When emotions such as anger get to that point it can be pretty impactful to those relationships, mentally and physically. Would this be something your willing to talk about in another video? Having these systems and techniques are no good if no one wants to be around as I have painfully learned. P.S Joined your discord as Lizardman, looking forward to future interactions.

How do you actually remember to do these routines/habits, though? I can think of ideas but having them “occur” to me at the right time is the issue.

Haha in the fridge! I do that. I put my keys with items I need to remember to take with me when I leave. This nearly never works when I’ve had a beer and decide to get a cab home! So, then I’m locked out my house, unable to drive (even if I had my car), and the items are left behind. In the same breath more neuro-typical people criticise this and wonder why my mobile phone is practically superglued to me. Also, being forced to use Windows and an android phone in addition to my own Apple devices at work is impossible. I have a system a lifetime in the making that I’m the most part works. Forcing me to use devices with interfaces and Workflows that dont fit my brain and also making me to keep two separate diary’s etc… and having to remember extra items is practically impossible. Yet, I’m to do it anyway and when it causes the inevitable problems, I am useless (despite the fact I warned them). I should “try harder” when it appears I’m not trying harder I “obviously don’t care”. Can’t win!!! Thanks for your channel, subscribed and liked! Cheers!

@@BryanJenks Thanks for the tip about the Chrome Extension. Didn't know about that. I found I can't follow along at 2x; another ADHD-related neuro-diversity can be diminished audio -> brain processing. This I believe is why we sometimes find that a phrase someone who's talking to us has just said rattling around in our head while we try and "process" it, meanwhile the person is still talking and we're not even hearing that part of the conversation 🙄 1.25x is about my limit but heh, it's quicker than 1x at least 😆

i beleive personally that OCD does not exist when it comes to ADHD. it is just ADHD. As one of the many of its symptoms. Tho I guess you can have similar symptoms and such without adhd?and then you can call it OCD? I have noo idea haha.. I just find it funny that everyone who has ADHD also gets like 12 other diagnosis and labels, tho ADHD is basically all it is, its just that ADHD houses soooo many different symptoms so I guess the doctors give you those 10 billion other labels too just to catogarize your symptoms or something.. i beleive that its just one diagnosis tho, but thats just my ignorant belief hehe
@BryanJenks
@BryanJenks 2 жыл бұрын
neurodivergence is a spectrum, and there are definitely different and mutually exclusive diagnoses because some people only have OCD, some only ASD, and others only ADHD but you can have a mix of different neurodivergences because having one makes it likely to have others on the various neurodivergent spectrums.
