When I was in primary school in Cork City where I was born in 1938, we were taught to sing this great song from Wales ('All Through The Night') - in English. It made such a deep impression on me that I began to cry. Everybody stopped singing. I felt utterly lost. Our teacher, a master of gentleness, told the other boys that the class was over and allowed them to go home. Then Brother Oliver - a Christian Brother of the very best kind - went over the song with me again, line by line. Then he began to sing on his own while encouraging me to join in. Deeply moved both by the song and by the unexpected kindness, I stopped crying and began to sing too, my voice trembling at first and then gradually growing steady and more confident. It was my first introduction to Wales, my adopted homeland, where I have lived since 1960.

I heard this song for the first time as a teenager and without knowing its significance to my family, loved it. It still calms me to my soul and is a part of my cherished heritage. It makes me proud to say I'm part Welsh.

Despite being raised in England, my blood, and heart are as Welsh as they can be. Cymru am Byth! This song always calms my soul. It's hilarious. not even knowing it's significance, and having heard it once, mom would sing the melody to me as an infant. Not realising she was singing an antiquity :) God bless Wales. A pure, Honest land with a pure name and a pure soul. I know that God loves all his children. But we Welshmen give him a lot of reason to be proud!!

The song is a Welsh lullaby and as Bryn is Welsh and his first language is Welsh, you cannot get much closer to the original spirit of the song. I am sure also that his mother sang this to him as a child as my mother did to me.

There are few things more magical than a great instrument with potential for great power yet used with artistry and sensitivity. I can bathe in the lushness of this man's sound but then I lose myself in his interpretations which are invariably superb.

I've been a professional singer for over 35 years and somehow, this song never has crossed my path. Sadly, it now has, at the passing of a very dear friend for whom I sang it (with difficulty, but hopefully poignantly) at her memorial Mass almost two weeks ago. I miss you, Vickie but I know, as the song says, you are sleeping in quiet on mother's gentle breast...

Blessed Bryn. This is the lullaby of a mother, inviting her babe to snuggle to her breast for comfort in a fearful world. This robust bass-baritone opens his heart and invites us, so too, to feel the love woven into this timeless music. He's more than a great singer, he's a generous and fearless human being. Diolch yn fawr, Bryn.

This song adds so much to a movie that was already amazing. Its too bad that society is rejecting older movies now. One will never find a movie as good as Empire of the Sun or Citizen Kane made today. It pains me every time I hear my friends say "a movie was good," I see it and I realize that they are judging by how much action the movie had in it, not by how artistic it was. As a filmmaker and twelve year old, I rejoice whenever a good movie or tv show like "sherlock" is made.

Just FYI Sleep child on my bosom Cozy and warm is this; Mother's arms are tight around you, Mother's love is under my breast; Nothing may affect your napping, No man will cross you; Sleep quietly, dear child, Sleep sweetly on your mother's breast. Sleep quietly, tonight, sleep; Sleep sweetly, the pretty of his picture; Why are you now smiling, Smiling softly in your sleep? Are angels above smiling, On you smiling joyfully, You smiling back in sleeping, Sleeping quietly on my breast? Do not fear, nothing but a leaf Knocks, knocks on the door; Do not fear, a small lonely wave Murmurs, murmurs on the seashore; Sleep child, there's nothing here Nothing to give you a fright; Smile quietly in my bosom, On the angels white yonder

Sometimes I have the impression that Brad Little(famous Broadway singer)is a smaller version of Bryn.Of course their voices are different. But the similarity is very funny. Look for Brad Little here on youtube and you´ll see what I mean.Bryn is in very good voice here, beautiful singing.

The reason the song rhymes in English is that, the translation is not the exact, word-for-word translation but, rather the English version of the lyrics.

You have a right to your opinion, but this is not overdone, he signs it simply and beautifully with the right amount of emphasis. Yes it is a song that is about a mother singing to her baby, however, in a larger sense it is a song about feeling safe and secure in the warmth of love that is provided for you by your loved ones - it states that there are times when you can feel safe and not worry about anything. As such it is appropriate for a man to sing, especially a man as talented as Bryn.

I've tried to learn this song. The challenges are, besides not speaking Welsh, that the vowel shift is unlike any I've seen, Welsh has consonants I didn't grow up using often, and that there seem to been many renditions, skipping many lines, adding some of the skipped lines at the end, etc.

What visions make your face bright? Are the angels above smiling, At you in your peaceful rest? Are you beaming back while in Peaceful slumber on mothers breast? Do not fear the sound, its a breeze Brushing leaves against the door. Do not dread the murmuring seas, Lonely waves washing the shore. Sleep child mine, theres nothing here, While in slumber at my breast, Angels smiling, have no fear, Holy angels guard your rest.

sorry that's always personal opinion but how can bryn be the only person who sings this song...the others perform it...stiff, metrically correct...he doesn't because it's a song for a baby thus sung to a baby...if i'd have the choice to have it sung to myself to fall asleep i'd of course choose this version or the other terfel version...that's so beautiful

@DesertDiver10 songs should STAY in their original language, when you try to dub music it takes the original feel out of the music. learn the lyrics of this song, or pick another, cause if it was dubbed in another language it would not be the same song and would probably not sound good

It's probably just me, but i really don't like pianos accompanying singers. It makes it feel like choir practice. A cello, violin, harp, anything other than a piano when its a solo singer sounds so much better. Or like in Empire of the sun, an organ.
