Thanks for the comparison. The Schrade and Uncle Henry are some of the best 110 clones out there. They were more affordable too as I recall, which was a big consideration back when I bought my first locking folder.

A 7OT "Cave Bear" was the first pocket knife I bought with my own money. My parents, grandpa would get me the little two or three blade pocket knives...but I wanted a worker. Carried it in my pocket for 15 years. The blade was black when I finally broke it trying to pry a slat off of a pallet. I had it through its paces. Saved up my lawn mowing money to buy that first one. So yesterday I ordered a new one. I've had alot of knives over the years. But I remember THE knife. I just hope it is familiar.

I use all 3, all are exceptional. Recently retired mine and carry a new Buck 110, a Golden Bear with desert ironwood slabs, and a replacement Sharp M300

I moved to Montana in '74 and everybody carried a Buck 110. I finally got one...$50.00 back then. That was a lot of money for a knife back then. I have the 50th anniversary one now. I carry a Steel Will apostate everyday, but still love them 110's.

I actually had a complete different experience with the old timer. I have one as well and it was very dull out the box. It’s brass pins began to wiggle out after a few months. It was a good knife until the lock back broke while cleaning game, it slipped and hit a bone. My father has had the buck 110 and it’s held up to 60 years of skinning game. He gave it to me and that’s what I’ve used ever since. Great video.

Hard to make a bad choice among these. I have a 110 and recently refurbished a 70T for a friend. Between the two,, I prefer the 110. It's more comfortable in the hand, has a better sheath, has less blade play, and Buck's heat treating is almost legendary. Would I be happy with either of them? Sure. Would I like to get my hands on an LB8? You betcha.

I like the buck 110 more. Not saying I don't like the others tho. I remember stories that my grandfather told me about living in the depression. They just had 2 knives and 1 was the buck and the other was the uncle henery. They were used for cooking and hunting. Long story short. There strong and you can put a razor edge on them. Good Video. I can recommend another compatitor. It is the Boker Scout. Nearly the same style of blade, N690, Backlock and thicker handles. Doesn't come with a sheath, but a leather sheath for the knife is cheap. It is a bit more expensive, but i prefer the thicker handles. Maybe take a look at it

When I was a pup that style of knife was all very popular. I bought the Uncle Henry variation while working in Alaska. It was a little less expensive than the Buck and I liked the looks better. Years later I picked up the Western 541 and still carry and use that knife on occasion. Probably the best looking of the bunch IMHO and I like the clip point shape a little better than the rest. My best friend carried the Puma version. I picked up a newer Buck 110 to add to the collection and I like that one too. The Western and Buck feel best in my hand. I like the Uncle Henry belt sheath the best... The Uncle Henry and Buck are the easiest to sharpen. Thanks for the video. Fun to look back at a great knife design.

I like both knives, the newer ones leave something to be desired. I’ve bought a few schrade on line and they were misused and I enjoy cleaning them up and with my limited skill set try to bring them back to life. Buck knives are quite a bit more expensive making schrade a bargain. The rivets have some significance I don’t know exactly what it means but the older they are the more I like them.

After more knives used than I can righty recollect and many collected possibly my favorite of any is a drop point full flat grind version of that stag type Uncle Henry above. Between the blade type , extra width and texture of the scales and the distance the backlock sticks out when the blade is half open fills me with old world surety of purpose.

I agree with you, I love all quality knives. I dig all three and want them all lol. USA is the deal sealer for me.

The very best version of these IMO was the original old timer 7-ot with 4 pin handles and 1095 carbon steel blade. Even the lock bar was carbon steel. The blade was flat ground (not full) instead of semi hollow but it is a big heavy version. The handles, blades, grinds, lock bar pin etc. all changed on these over the years. I do have a stag uncle henry, but prefer carbon. I absolutely love the Buck 110 and have owned several, but the original 7-ot wins out with me due to the 1095 carbon steel. My favorite stainless was 440A back in the day, but the 425M Buck and Schrade(before buck changed to 420 hc for easier sharpening) used to use was ok too, but harder to sharpen in the field in those days.

The Schrade and Old Timer knives have been made in China for many years now and the Buck 110 knife has been made in the U.S. for the life of the knife and I have one of them. The Schrade you have is nice, but the quality went down when the company moved production to China. I have some Case knives and they are nice and one is a pocket knife and is in my collection not to be used.

Buck uses leftover bits of ebony wood from Taylor Guitars so it's not wasted, and Taylor has a sustainable ebony project that helps protect the African rainforest where it's harvested.

Back when John Paul Jones and I were in the Navy everyone that needed to carry a knife carried a Buck 110. At that time that was about the only folding knife the Navy Exchange carried. Every one would immediately start working on them so they could flip the blade out with one hand. They all thought that was being cool. I have an Old Timer like you've shown plus a KBar folding knife like these but with two blades. It's the first one I've ever seen.

This was a great vid bud. Im partial to the 110, my pops carried one before losing it in a lake in northern wisconsin and then switching to a leatherman from there on out but he bought me one when i was 10 and i threw it at a tree and never found it lol ive always had one since and honestly prefer it to the more modern folding knives. If you got a task for a folding knife these old ones can definitely do it.

They all have their place all are great I own one of each wouldn't pick between neither they carry great hold an edge and will last forever

You should check out Rough Rider. They have a 110 clone called the Big Foot lockback with beautiful, ornate art on the wood. Steel is only 440a vs buck's 420hc. But it's really well made and has stiff slip joints for just $15 vs buck's $50. Really good deal.

I have had a 110 till it was stolen but it kept a sharp edge I then owned an old timer which also had a sharp edge but the best edged knife I ever owned was made by cammilus knives it was a shaveable edge that stayed that way I also own a case knife at present all my knives are or were excellent. I've got a Buck 110 that I've had since 1980 and a Schrade Bear Paw from about 1993 and some new Schrades and Bucks as well. I think the toughest knife of the bunch is the old Bear Paw. Love them all though.

I prefer carbon steel over stainless blades. I figure if it gets rusty or tarnished then you are not using it enough. Both are great knife companies and those modules are some of the best for almost any chore that needs a blade. Nice review, thank you.

You forgot the Frost Bear Claw (mostly the Southern Boys carried these & usually with Bone handles.) The Uncle Henry had an unconditional replacement warranty (even if you just lost it, they would send you a new knife!) In Arizona you graduated from the Buck lockback to a Buck 119, or the Schrade/Uncle Henry Lockback to the Uncle Henry 171UH or a Frost version of the Sharpfinger if you were a Frost Lockback Fan. (Not always, but it was common for those that could resist a Ka-Bar.) Just that quick we travel back in time 50 plus years!!!

I like all of those knifes. As for the Buck I like the Buck 112 better than the Buck 110. I have a Henry it has handles like the Buck 110 does. But it never stayed sharpened very long. I. I will look forward to your next video.

I’ve got an old timer from the early 70s. It looks more like the buck. Wood slabs, made in USA, good steel. Carried and used it for years as a diesel mechanic. When I got injured I gave it to my dad so he didn’t hurt himself trying to cut belts with his old Pakistani wannabe. He carried and used it til he retired. Now I have it back minus the sheath. Holding up great. Tough knife, holds a good edge.

My man has sheaths for weddings, funerals and to take his gal out to dinner ...in the words of Darth Vader-"IMPRESSIVE, MOST IMPRESSIVE!!"

If anyone is going out to buy the schrade models keep in mind they are owned by Taylor now, not made i USA. Shell of what they once were, but cheap enough to be cool to pick up

I have both those schrade/uncle henrys as well as the rose wood scaled one. All 3 are close to ment condition. I do carry and use them but not abuse them. The are great knives. I also have the mustang single blade liner lock, I have had several of those over the years as my work knives. Broke a couple blades and lost one hunting. The one I have now is a little banged up, not bad and is still used when camping. I have been using these knives since the mid 70s. and value them a lot. The Buck is a nice knife as well, I like the old timer design a little better but would be just as happy with the Buck I just never bought one.

Uncles and Old Timers are incredible.

As far a current production I’d pick the Buck although I prefer the Old Timer 7 OT but it has to have the 1095 carbon steel blade. Most do but since Schrade knives are made in China now the vintage USA made ones are starting to get pricey.

Ive got the uncle henry and the old timer. The buck 110 will be here this afternoon. I also had the uncle henry in the new stag design and it looks rediculous. I sent it back. So if your thinkin about buying an uncle henry get the classic stag design.

Sadly new production Schrade products are made in either China or Taiwan and aren’t near the quality they were. Hopefully somebody will buy the brands and bring production back stateside soon. You need to find a carbon steel 7 OT for your collection before they get too expensive.

I think you old timer is a sharade hybrid they had before they went bust more than a decade ago. The OTs are supposed to have carbon steel and UH stainless. I was working at home Depot at the time and they carried OT line and I got all of them I could. I favor the ot handles and stainless blades and have yours here. Great knife. Not sure you'd feel the same about the ones made now under that brand

In my opinion, the Buck 110 has one serious design flaw in that the blade can "overclose" and its edge can contact the frame if not handled rather delicately. This tends to dull the edge just behind the tip and makes the most carefully applied sharpening job an absolute waste of time. I find this quite surprising because "delicate" is not a word I would associate with the Buck 110 in any other sense and a knife design that's been this iconic for six decades should have had this addressed long ago. Chalk it up to the fact that most people don't seem to have a notion of what the word "sharp" actually means.

I have an LB8 and 110 and both are far too Big to carry on my belt or in my pocket for my taste.I believe the 110 is quite a bit lighter than the 110 to my feel.I noticed the difference the first time I picked up the LB8 just from memory.The LB8 just feels more solid and both are pretty much unused so no wear and tear on either and no blade wobble on either.If I were buying one and only one it would be the Uncle Henry but I already have both with the sheath and they were both CHEAP or I would not have purchased either.I much prefer a CASE Sodbuster Jr. or a CASE Trapper for my EDC.I have a few other brands but I just prefer a CASE XX for my personal uses.👍🇺🇸

Always got to go with buck, but some of them old timer knives aren't too bad. Also either it's the angle or you must have large hands compared to the knife

I'll take the 7OT or the LB8 over the 110, especially the 7OT. I don't know what it is, but there's just something about that scale and bolster combination that really appeals to me. I have all of these knives, including the 6OT, and while the Buck is fine and pretty to look at, the old USA Schrades had better build quality then than modern Bucks do today, plus I just like the chunkier feel. The problem is finding one on the secondary that hasn't been used and abused and that the seller doesn't think is a priceless antique. They're out there, though, and not always expensive. I bought a 7OT for $12 about a year ago that had never been used. Still had the factory edge, just the blade was heavily peppered. A little polishing compound and some pivot oil and now it's a $50 knife, and my most carried sheath knife. Also bought a 6OT in brand new condition for $24, sheath included and no scale cracks around the lanyard tube or lockbar pin, which was a common defect with that model. The LB8 in the video is Chinese, though. Those ugly af scales give it away before you even see the poor fit or tang stamp

The LB7 was the original schrade answer to the Buck 110.

Send the buck back they will put a new blade on it. They replaced my entire straight blade hunting knife that the blade broke on. It actually snapped in half about 1” out from the hilt. No questions asked. I mailed it in and they mailed me a new knife.

I don't know how old your video is but I recently came by a buck 110 in the wooden handle it has a diagram of the state of Kentucky with what looks like a crown a king's crown engraved in the middle of the state I've never seen well with it like that have you thank you

Good condition and American made at the time. I bout the Case version and it's kinda to pointy for me and the Case case was very loose

I like my schrade 7ot, but my buck 503 prince is much nicer and sharper. Although the 7ot has a high density steel, my buck stays sharp for long enough, and it is easy to sharpen. But my schrade is bigger and was a gift from my dad. It's hard to tell which one is better.

The Schade LB8 you are showing is a Chinese version. I can tell from the scales alone. It is not real stag, it is called Stagalon. Big hefty knife but of little value. The original Schrade USA LB8's were awesome. The other two are fine quality knives.

Are both of the Schrades USA made? Schrade USA closed their doors for good in 2004 after which Taylor bought the rights and Schrade name sending them straight to China. I still have a Schrade LB7 that I bought brand new at a friends gun store in 1978 I think it was? I carried and used that knife a lot. A real workhorse.

I have several Bucks and also the Uncle Henry. I prefer the Uncle Henry...it just looks and feels better in my hand, plus the belt pouch is of better quality than the Buck supplied pouch. As you said...all of the knives are of top notch quality, so personal preference will determine which is the best for you...l recomend that you put them in your hand before deciding which one is for you...that will help you from buying the "wrong" one first. Regarding the Buck pouch hanging a little out from your belt...that belt strap can be repositioned with a little effort...checkout "Johnny Juke's" video on that mod.

Unfortunately the lb8 in the video is a made in China version. Not near the quality of the USA Schrade version by any means

They put the belt loops to low now days like below the center of gravity and it is so high riding that it pokes you in the side instead of riding even with or below the top of the belt line !

The one ten was military standard until a soldier used it on another soldier so they made the 112. What that was supposed to fix I do not declare? If you now how to use the knife a half inch is all you need. But I digress.

ive had a couple of old timer schrade's now and i could never get then to take a good edge, and that was on a spyderco ceramic whett stone, id never buy another one

I got a Schrader 6-ot it's original us of a made good as bucks 110 .does Taylor guarente any old original Schrade knives.wont use Schrade to much cause not made us of a no more .original holds edge better and lock up solid and blade centered

Years back-Shrade’ made a BIG Carbon steel 2 blade Folder that’s far better than these. It’s not a Lock blade knife but truly a superior knife.

Buck 110 in the American made knife. Both Schrades are made in China. Your models were still made in the U.S. Not anymore. So, is you will be buying new knife, it is only one option, it is Buck 110.

Parker schrade should hang their heads in shame for the abominations they call schrade old timer and uncle henry knives today. The USA made bear cave 7OT you have is ten times the knife of the chinese made LB8 , I dont know why the don't charge a little more and at least add a little more meat to them and a little less cheese and In this day and age with computer / robot machining and manufacturing processes surely they could produce a knife a little closer to the original or be it a little dearer. Nice vid though I enjoyed watching.

I think your camera needs to go in for repairs. The video is only a few inches wide. It's almost like you have the camera turned the wrong way.

Vintage of the Buck 110? Same age as the two Schrade? Was your 7 OT ("Oh - Tee" each letter seperately, for "Old Timer"; not "ot" one word) stainless (will say "Schrade +" on the tang stamp, if pre 2004 US manufacture. Post bankruptcy Schrade are made offshore and don't have the "+") If vintage USA made with no "Schrade +" it has a 1095 carbon steel blade. Schrade + wae 440A. Same era Buck 110 was 440C. The Ncle Henry has a440A blade. They were always stainless steel. Never carbon steel. For your "tests" did you sharpen all the knives to the same edge? The pre-2000 Buck knives had a convex 60 degree inclusive cutting edge. (Starting in 2000 Buck changed the edge geometry to 30 degrees inclusive, and got rid of the convex edge.) 30 degrees inclusive is going to cut better and hold a working edge longer than a 60 degree inclusive edge. From the 1960's Buck 110 and 1979/1980 first run Old Timer 7OT I had back then, I can tell you the 7OT was slicier, because it had a more acute edge. The Schrade's 440A were also much easier to sharpen on the then common Arkansas oil stones (or a smooth I've occk hen afield) than Buck's much harder and more obtuse 440C, even after you finally got the edge reprofled to between 20 and 25 degrees inclusive. If you're comparing a 110 with 420HC blade steel to Schrade's 440A, the Buck is tempered a little harder than the Schrade's were, so holds an edge a little longer. I could peel 3 whitetail deer with a 110 before the blade needed stropped. A 6OT/7OT/LB8 with 440A was good for 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 whitetails before needing stropped. Both were and are good knives. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. One major advantage the Buck has is it is still under the Forever warranty. As long as there is a Buck is in business, the knife is under warranty. It don't matter if you are the original owner, or found one sitting in the woods or in the mud of a river/stream/crick/pond/lake/ocean for decades. It is under warranty and they will fix it. The USA made Schrade's have been out of warranty since Imperial - Schrade USA went bankrupt and closed their doors in mid 2004.

Schrade just makes better knives. Every Buck I've ever bought has fallen apart after light use. I can beat the crap out of an old timer and it lasts for years and they're much cheaper.
