The wrap technique you use is called a "whip wrap". It is also used when wrapping an archery bow string, or to finish the end of a rope to prevent fraying. I am sure you know this, but some of your viewers may not.

Buckin good morning. I use the same type of wrap on handles. I use Starbrite super glue, thin, to secure the wrap. It is like water and flows into the threads, there is no need to loosen the threads it will go straight through to the wood. Oh and don't grab it with your hands before it sets. I was splitting wood for two days before it let of of my hand 😉😉

What kind of string/wrap do you use? I watched the video but didn't catch the name or maybe it was a term I'm not used to so I missed it. Kinda lools like paracord, but thinner than 550.

Alternately, rather than using seal all, twist/snug the whipping up as tight as possible at the bottom then fully saturate all of the paracord top to bottom with a thin CA glue - it chemically converts/melts the sheathing and individual nylon strength cords inside the sheathing to a single piece of perfectly formed and EXTREMELY durable armor with outstanding impact and abrasion resistance. As an added benefit, BLO can be applied to both the handle and whipping after the fact to further re-enforce and condition both wood and wrap. I use this trick to make bulletproof overstrike collars for splitting axes and mauls. It works a treat, especially with some 5 to 7 millimeter sheet rubber and a wrap or two of hockey grip tape underneath to reduce impact transfer between whipping and handle.

Love it, I'll have to try that sometime. I use a piece of rubber not too thick and electrical tape it to the axe in this same fashion. If done with care, it looks nice and get good stretch with the electrical tape. This is for my working axes to prolong the handle life as from time to time I get an off swing or the wood splits such that the rubber boot absorbs the impact of an undersplit. But...I like to try differant things and love the look you have created. Thanks for sharing Buck'n , and tell her...mention to her, be safe and careful. With the legs,shins, and feet. The Alaskan.. (Thanks Buck'n, your technique is beautiful. , owe, I also put a pc of masking tape across that sharp edge, as I don't trust myself, ah ha. Love it.) Very Nice.
@preparedsurvivalist2245
@preparedsurvivalist2245 6 ай бұрын
I'd recommend wrapping all the way to the head. It looks better number one, but also overstrikes don't always happen because you miss the log. Sometimes the wood splits around your bit in an unpredictable way and so the overstrike can find its way right under the chin of your axe into the handle.

I will wrap it with para cord when I get a chance. I usually cut a piece of thick leather and lace it on the handle with leather to protect against over strikes.
