This might be one of the most interesting Kristen conversations in this season because she's up against someone who won't just bowl over to her eccentricity. It feels like two clerics, rival or no having a genuine talk about the situation and that's cool. I know this is the silly season but it's nice to see some heart from Kristen.

I think the thing I really love is that Kristen is clearly deeply insecure about so much stuff, and the goofy overconfidence is a facade she puts on over all of that. And Tracker calling her on that a few episodes ago---straight up saying that Kristen is running to keep from confronting the tough shit because she is not processing---really just popped that balloon in that moment and led her to drop the act and be the most openly insecure and vulnerable she has let herself get so far. But this is the other side of the situation, where the person challenging her beliefs is an enemy instead of a friend, and is wrong instead of right. And in response, Kristen stays calm and gets genuinely more confident throughout the conversation, not in a goofy way but in an extremely sincere way. And it makes sense because Kristen's insecurities are personal and emotional; they DON'T come from her not really believing in Cassandra/doubt. So hearing Buddy act so confident about things that she knows more about than him reinforces all of her beliefs. You can almost *hear* Kristen start thinking to herself, "No, I'm right. This boy is going through life on autopilot and has never questioned any of his beliefs and just listening to him shows how empty these words are." The quiet confidence Kristen has when she says, "I'll never let you do that," and draws a hard boundary is moving and really feels like Kristen finding her faith and herself again. And to Ally's credit, that confidence and faith feels like it comes directly from the experiences and actions Kristen has been having after Cassandra's disappearance, like thinking about how doubt helped her get out of her previous suffocating life. It's a really earned change in a beautiful way, and I think people focus so much on the chaotic comic relief that sometimes they miss how smart it is of Ally to have an in-character reason to act silly (on a comedy show where they're going to all have to be silly anyway) while also making that silliness itself part of the character arc. Idk I've just really loved Kristen's arc so far this season and I think Ally is an incredible and underrated player.

Despite the fact that a good portion of Helio and Sol's clergy are made up of people like this (judgmentally ignorant/ morally sociopathic at best, and nihilistically bloodthirsty/ holier-than-thou at worst), I think Kristen might still have to, at some point, have a heart-to-heart with her former deity, so that, at the very least, she can finally gain some closure over her past and be able to move on. From what little we've seen, Helio has struck me as, at worst, some well-meaning, rather passive dude that's firmly stuck under his a-hole dad's and aunt's thumbs in a clearly abusive relationship (even without going into the whole gods are influenced by their clerics thing.) who doesn't seem to reflect how bloodthirsty and douchey a good deal of his worshippers seem to be. And, to be fair, Kristen's only interactions with Helio have consisted of her asking him extremely existential questions (none of which is remotely in his purview) after her rather traumatic first death, socking him in the face after her second (or third? it hard to keep track sometimes) death, and offhandedly thinking that he's a date rapist. I also think part of season three Kristen's problem is that she's still somewhat stuck in the mindset of 'gods have all the answers,' despite now (badly) worshipping a deity that specifically represents the spheres of mystery and doubt. So, of course, the moment said deity does not meet her rather high (subconscious) standards, she goes all wacko and tries to run away/ latch on to a new thing, rinse and repeat. But, one of the things that D&D has, I think, always shown pretty well is this; Gods are powerful, but not perfect. If gods were perfect, then they would not really need worshippers would they? Plus... if they did every single thing for their worshippers, where would the drive to venerate them go? If they fixed every little mistake, how would their worshippers and people even grow? Gods influence their worshippers, but wasn't;t her story in season two also realizing that, in turn, worshippers influence their gods?

'Purge all non-believers'/ 'I alone know all, the light is good'... does that sound like a corn deity... or a sun deity?

I think she is very much “well my class is cleric there is nothing here mechanically saying I need to be faithful to my deity.” In a world where the gods are real and the kids regularly unalive creatures and humanoids, it’s unreal they would have the stereotypical maturity slope. There have been plenty of events where Kristen would have grown up. All her friends are literally covering for her strange choices and behavior. It just feels like a repeat of the other seasons.
