Punk rock was directly from Buddy Holly......all of the early punks said they wanted to get back his sound instead of the endless guitar solos and synth of the 70s.

@@tarstarkusz They are called legends because of the great deal of inspiration and joy they have provided to people, whether it's present day or 70 years ago. Also, them being major rock 'n roll legends for less than two years and having an extravagant career is amazing. And another thing: they might not have been professionally taught, but they started off as nothing and built themselves up. I mean most successful people get successful that way. These guys didn't inherit anything from "daddy. So yes they are legends and always will be. And the rest is rock 'n roll.
@tarstarkusz
@tarstarkusz 2 ай бұрын
@@EvelynRinehart They inherited everything from mommy and daddy. EVERYTHING. Just not money. Frankly, if they hadn't died in the plane, they wouldn't have been anywhere near as revered today. Because it's easy to get caught up in what could have been rather than what actually was. We imagine we are missing great works of art because they passed too soon.
@EvelynRinehart
@EvelynRinehart 2 ай бұрын
@@tarstarkusz No they didn't inherit anything from mommy or daddy. In fact, Buddy's parents owned a tile company, his brothers followed, doing tiles but not Buddy. Ritchie's family was very poor and his mom was very proud of him because of all the success he had. Ritchie's career meant everything to his Mom. Ritchie was determined to be a star as did Buddy and the Bopper. If Taylor Swift would've died 20 years ago would you say the same thing about her and her death? I think not. I'm not trying to pick a fight here I'm just setting this all straight.

Buddy is one of the most talented song writers and performers that ever lived in our country. I was 5 months old when he died and I have lovedevery song that he wrote and performed. What a talent at the young age of 22. He lived a clean upstanding life. He truly was an artist in every sense of the word. Not dissing Elvis but Holly was a shooting star. Long Live Buddy!!!!

Nathan Wyatt it's my understanding that the piolet was young and unexperienced. We've all f'ed up due to being young and dumb. I don't blame the piolet, I blame the company that sent the piolet out. Imo they were older n had more flying experience. They shouldn't have never sent him out. I see it as a pass the buck kind of thing. They didn't want to get their buts up due to the weather so they passed the job on to that poor unexpecting young man. If only they would have adult uped those 3 wonderful rockers would have survived the night.

If you look at the known timeline the chartered Beechcraft Bonanza left at 1255 from Mason City airport Iowa heading 365 miles to Hector Airport Fargo the nearest to Moorhead Minnesota, the flight duration would have been approximately 2 3/4 hours ,with transfers to the hotel the arrival time would have been 0300 allowing the three musicians to get some rest . The tour group were expected to set up and sound check the equipment themselves ,this would be done in the afternoon allowing plenty of time for any changes in the set. Chartering the flight was the sensible option to cover the same distance ,on the tour bus would this would have taken at least 7 hours ,the bus was a retired school bus with no heating, the predicted temperature that night was -8C ,imagine arriving at the hotel at 0800 cold and having to be on set for the afternoon. The tour was going well but the logistics of moving from venue to venue weren’t as good as they could of been leaving everyone exhausted and fractious with each other. Buddy Holly has to shoulder a lot of the responsibility ,he was certainly very successful and could have afforded and asked for better travelling conditions, often inconsequential decisions add up to history making events , who knows what might have been.

Buddy and Elvis are both equally deserving of status as early rock-n-roll icons. Comparing them too directly, however, is an apples v. oranges dilemna. Elvis was definately the stand-out showman of the era but Buddy was more definitive in an all-around way because of his prolific song writing. I love and miss them both.

The plane crashed minutes after take-off due to a combination of bad weather and either pilot error: According to author Philip Norman in RAVE ON there are aviation records which show that Peterson had a reputation for not being able to read his instruments, especially something called the attitude meter; and panicking when visibility was low. Dwyer should have flown the plane himself. Then again, if the problem had been ice on the wings or snow in the engines then I guess nothing would have saved them.

Today there is no way that plane would be allowed to take off. The weather conditions were awful and the guy flying the plane was not instrument trained. He was 21 years old I think. A kid who flew as a crop duster. He lost his life too. It was an avoidable tragedy is the most sad part.

But Dwyer claims he watched the plane fly away and bank, the crash site is 4-5 miles from the Airport, in all likely hood Jerry Dywer watched 94N crash from 4 miles away, that would be VFR conditions. But yes I agree it was poor judgement on the pilot's part to attempt the flight. I don't know what the weather forecast was for the next day but they may of been better off waiting for daylight

I love Buddy Holly; big fan of him and the other guys. So it's quite painful to watch this, especially certain graphic scenes. What makes it all that much worse that the three young men seemed to be very decent people; in Buddy Holly's case,, specifically, this has been confirmed by several reliable sources- how gentle he was, etc. Anyway, the uploader of this video might want to warn viewers about a few graphic pictures...Other than that, this mini-series seems interesting and informative. Maybe Mr Dwyer was instrument certified. But it is highly questionable if he could have completed the flight successfully. The V35 Bonanza is a small plane without deicing equipment and questionable backup equipment for the instruments needed to fly IFR. Besides, it’s single engine. In that weather and given circumstances I would have told even Mr Jesus C. to fcuk off, if he asked me to fly.

Buddy idolized Elvis. I love Buddy but if he were here today, he would tell you the same thing. Elvis is the King and teacher, Buddy the student.

Elvis is the King but Chuck Berry is the King of R&R. Watch Hail Hail Rock and Roll and hear what Jerry Lee Lewis has to say about the subject. Go listen to the full recording of The Million dollar quartet and hear how incredibly enthused Elvis is by Chuck's Brown eyed handsome man. Elvis was singing Maballine in 55 with Scotty, Bill, and DJ on the Louisiana Hey Ride. Chuck is hugely influential from two major perspectives 1) as a song writer and 2) as a guitar player. Scotty Moore came from the Chet Atkins school of guitar playing which is country based where as Chuck came from the T-Bone Walker Elmore James school. Chuck's influence can be heard all over the British invasion bands' repertoires. The Stones' first single was Chuck's Come on. Everyone from the Beatles to the Kinks stole Chuck's stylings, not to mention the Beach Boys. I'm not here to argue with you as Elvis is my favorite artist but Chuck is Rock and Roll.

Elvis is a great performer, but to be fair, he didn’t write songs. I think the king of rock and roll should be someone who can write as well as perform rock and roll.

Coin flip..damn like Kirk Hammett of Metallica they drew cards to see who would get first choice of bunks and Cliff got the ace of spades he looked at Kirk and said i want your bunk Kirk because of that card game cliff got first choice of bunks and the accident happened the very next morning. which killed Cliff..but had Kirk been in that bunk it would have been him who would have died So I'm sure he thinks about that daily. How lucky he was to be asleep elsewhere....talk about crazy..like Randy Rhoads going up in that plane...the what ifs.. but anyhow buddys pilot should not have been allowed to take off, especially if he don't have instrument training if he just had visual flight rules, going on that plane as dark and snowy as this was was like committing suicide...if he didnt have instrument certification, how was he supposed to read his instruments???.in Canada for example, u have only vfr certification .he wouldn't of been able to travel..that's just one country....or JFK Jr not instrument trained flew in hazy foggy weather over miles of open water that was asking to die
