In his first post budget interview Dr Subramanian Swamy speaks to NewsX's Snr Executive Editor Priya Sahgal. Expressing his disappointment on the budget he said he knew on Feb 1st that BJP would lose Delhi after such a budget. He pointed out that the budget did not address economic slowdown, and the economy which was in a tailspin was now heading for a crash. `Maybe we will learn lessons after the crash, as we did in 91' he added. Calling it a bureaucrat’s budget he pointed out that the PM was not getting the RT feedback from his advisors.

Modi knows about Swamy more than any of us / you know him and he will never let Swamy near him. Swamy is a backstabber and dishonest person. He has only aligned with those in power and will bad mouth the same people once they are out of power. Be it Jayalalitha,Vajpayee, Rajiv Gandhi, Indra Gandhi or others. Modi is too smart to not understand that and will never let Swamy near him.

Every word he spoke is 100% correct. It is the budget which had negative impact on Delhi elections. Im glad hearing people voice through Subramanian Swamy. His contention that personal income tax which fetches around 5 lac crores to the govt coffers can be replaced thru spectrum auction every year is extremely dubious. Maybe that sum could be realised over 4 - 5 years. The telecom companies are limping along and the govt could realise only a tenth of the projected revenue from spectrum auction this financial year. Don't just swallow everything he says without the data.

There r many ways of raising money to replace personal income tax like gst on alcohol and fuel, coal and other mineral auctions, agri tax on rich farmers, corrupt psu disinvestment etc. On top of it the whole set of corrupt people who are currently overseeing the personal income tax collection can be used to better enforce gst collection and minimize leakages

Brilliant analysis as always by Dr.Swamy, it is a shame our country never appreciates brilliance and righteous patriotism. The wonderful brief on America’s investment practice gives such an insight into the shoddy brainless policy makers in our country. It is sad to see Dr.Swamy growing old and as an aside one can observe his ageing hands reacting slowly to the paper fluttering. The "problem" with Subramanyam Swamy is, [though he is very objective / highly sensible and original in thinking] he never advises anyone before or during a damage happening. He always criticises AFTER everything is over. And that is because he always expects everyone to fall at his feet and ask him for advice !! That makes him LOOK unapproachable, So, I wonder if any govt.would want him as one of its ministers.

Well the point with Swamy is, he hounds those who deviate even an inch and be it within his own party. This never sat well with the current Modi govt. As for the damage control the man has been talking about the economics of the country for well over a decade and as he says if no one listens all he can do is talk in panels and news shows. I agree to some extent Swamy like to thrive in the spotlight but which minister doesn't today and it is in a good way. You are sadly mistaken if you are not aware of Modi's narcissistic personality which is why we don't have some senior leaders in BJP like Shourie or Yaswant Sinha, Joshi etc

just checked. spectrum auction in 2015 got us 1.10 lakh crore whereas income tax got us 14 lakh crore.I'm no economic expert ,if somebody could explain if i misunderstood swamy's point of abolishing income tax because he clearly says spectrum auction got us more money than income tax.

Vijay Mallay's case was earlier in Westminster's Magistrate Court, where the Chief Magistrate (Emma Arbuthnot) gave the extradition order. This extradition order was appealed by Vijay Mallya in Royal Courts of Justice, London, where a 2-Judge bench has completed the 3-day appeal hearings on 13th Feb, and will be giving a verdict soon.

I agree. Modi just needs to stop putting up random people as finance ministers. He put jaishankar as EAM, who is doing a good job. Should use same logic to pit swami in as FM.

Modi seems to be scared to have such an intellectual at the helm affairs as finance minister because he might be outsmarted in governance. Modi is also a politician who doesn't like to be in the company of stalwarts like Swamy to hide his shortcomings!

It is difficult for anybody to match pace of Dr. Swamy. Govt & BJP both listen him & acknowledge him. And also implement his ideas but with slow pace.

We can anticipate Modiji reviews the current economic situation of India. Otherwise, It may open the door to CONG for the next election to counter BJP if the govt does not correct the deviation. We hope Modiji vitalize the economy. Dr.Swamy's words seem prophetic. He is an unsung hero - should have been a Nobel Laureate considering his mastery over Economics. Its a pity that the PM is ignorong his sagacious comments and playing with the economy irresponsibly. Income tax is a real pain.....the exemptions will be removed and most people will end up paying more tax.....what a pity?! BJP is squandering a huge mandate...

I am seeing my papa in Swamy ji, same way my papa talked. He is gem of the person in India in BJP. He has resolved and still big issues of corruption in favor of current Govt. Big heart big mind, very logical, bold. Great lawyer and great economist too.. Modi ji should replace him with the current dumm FM.
