Start with a Lithgow LA101, change trigger spring for a lighter one, bed the action and ensure the barrel is floated properly. You might consider a different stock or a chassis. That should get you a great rifle at a more friendly cost.

Thanks for the great info Josh. I just finished up my CZ 457 PRS build and got to the range for some break-in. I shot a .27" group at 50 yards with CCI standard velocity after about 25 rounds thru the barrel. Groups with Aguila bulk ammo were pretty good, tight 4-shot group and a flyer.
@leath4m6 ай бұрын
Great video Josh, thank you. Because of the ammo restrictions here in Aust we normally train with CCI SV. But only to about forty yards. That distance seems to keep it a bit more honest. A normal practise day for us here at my home club for NRL22 is at forty using .5” targets. And we seem to keep competitive like that. So for me to see this cheaper ammo out of a 5k gun is really interesting to me. I’ll just add. Another good cheap one is Hornady varmint express. It’s actually a little more accurate.

CCI standard and Norma Tac-22 do very well out of my 50 year old Glenfield model 20 at 50 and 100. All that I’ve ever tried in it because that is all that is available in my area besides the bulk box stuff.

I shot some real budget 22lr ammo today. I was using my shaw barreled 1022 using Aguila super extra standard vel. I had some .88 to a couple of .48s. I just bought a Ruger RPR, and now I am waiting on my Arken scope to come in. I got burned out of steel challenge and needed to find a new hobby. Thanks to your videos, I think I found the group therapy I needed. Keep up the good work.

I once bought a box of 50 rounds of CCI Standard that shot groups at 50 yards from my 1989 built CZ ZKM 452 model 2E topped with Tasso World Class straight 6X scope as small as your first tight group in this video. I have fired around 400 rounds of CCI Standard from different lots but most shot around.8 to an inch 5 shot groups. I regret not having gone back to the gun shop were I bought that first box and grabbed 5000 rounds from the same lot of CCI Standard rimfire ammo that shot so well in my old rifle. Interesting video Josh 👍. Cheers 🍻 🍻.

@denisleblanc45066 ай бұрын
My experience with CCI SV is kind of like yours without the extremely small groups. But I tend to have one bad flyer out of about 2 five shot groups. Like you I notice the hotter rounds and just ignore the flyers. I don't shoot pas 100 so it serves me well. It's good enough for practice and to keep me relatively sharp.

Either would be minute of squirrel head or zombie pepsi can! CCI has always been my favorite "cheaper" choice ammo and usually easy to source including at most big box stores that sell rimfire ammo which again gives it a bit of a bonus in a pinch.

I will typically do my dot drills with CCI at around 70yds if I have a good lot. I always shoot a control group to measure against it to see what it and the gun are going to do and try to keep my positional groups around the same size.

Had the exact opposite experience in my CZ457 with standard chamber varmint barrel. CCI won't group but S&B Club gives exceptional accuracy at 50M for the price. .22LR ammo performance seems to be very barrel dependant.

I've gotten the same results out of cci sv. I've also gotten complete trash groups out of it. It depends on the lot of ammo. It's not consistent at all. And the lots aren't written on the box. So I am starting to write dates on them. It at least gives me an idea of what is what with it. But every now and then I get some boxes that shoot lights out.

Interestingly, S&B makes a 22LR variant called "Canadian Match" available up here in Canada. I've found it to be better than CCI SV and have switched over to it as my practice ammo as it doesn't cost much more if you buy a case worth of it.

I only use CCI standard for my Ruger precision. For some reason it and result are similar to what you go here. Only thing I do find with the CCI is 1 or 2 out of every 100 is a dud/miss fire. I live with that for the price.

Im having very good results out to 200 with my pre A Winchester Model 52 and CCI SV. Its really surprising for $10 a hundred. I do get better results with Norma Match but for practice ammo its great. Dont know how you guys have been getting on in the US but here in the UK I have found CCI has been having real issues with primer material in the rim, lots of voids. This is sometimes as bad as 5% fail to fire. I have been shooting CCI for years and shoots 1000s of rounds a year but have put a pause on CCI for a while till its sorted.
@africantwin1736 ай бұрын
I stopped shooting here in EU. $7 for a box 22lr cci is a nogo. 9mm $16. But S&B makes bad ammo. Especially the 9mm. The .223 S&B corroded my sig223. No matter how much oil i used for cleaning . Its bad dirty ammo. The light blue .22cci standard are also bad. Only the old Dark blue CCi .22 were good. 😊

Here's a free video idea for you that just occurred to me while watching the video: You should do a video from the perspective of an experienced precision rimfire shooter about how the chrono helps you, what the numbers mean -- what's a good SD or spread -- and anything else that you'd think someone walking down your path should know. Anyway, solid video -- I'm almost tempted to buy some CCI SV to try out of my 457 Varmint MTR just to see what I'd get.

Does that lot of CCI happen to start with JC by chance?I have a lot here that's rediculous in how well it shoots out of my Lithgow. It's shot several sub .2's. it has its fliers but not as many as typical but with how well the other 19/20 shot it's well worth trying. I will say tho I also have lots here that at 50yards the target looks more like the pattern board at a trap club than a rifle group. Tough to break 1"

I got to say, that i am a little disapointed with the performance of them SaB Club... I personally, as a czech shooter/hunter, use SaB Hollow Points, both subs and supers, and i have to say, that even standing and shooting of quad-sticks, my grouping at 50 meters out of stock CZ457 MDT could not have been much worse (actually compereable, maybe even slightly better) compared to what the SaB Club did... Also, got a hold of an older box of these Club, have not tested the accuracy, because i do not really punch paper... And cause i do not need a non-HP bullet nor hit the exact same point... But as i said, them SaB HP have quit a potencial in my opinion...

The problem with CCI SV isn’t that it performs like five-dollar ammo. The problem with CCI SV is the generations of weirdos on the internet swearing up and down that it’s the ne plus ultra of rimfire ammo. It’s cheap subsonic ammo that is not designed to compete with (and cannot compete with) European match ammo. It’s fine. It’s waxy and a little inconsistent. You get one or two supersonic rounds per box when shooting from a rifle. It almost never has defects like spinning bullets or missing primer compound. But, go somewhere like RimfireCentral, and you’ll find oodles of weird old guys with modified 10/22s swearing up and down that it shoots just as well as Lapua and Eley, like it is somehow magic ammo that transcends QC/QA limitations.
