I like to make a thread chaser by cutting a couple of vertical grooves across the threads on an old bolt. The groove gives a pocket for the crud to fall into then it all comes out when you back it out. This is better than a tap because it's not hard enough to cut the cast iron hole you are cleaning.

That is a good suggestion Andy. It is definitely important not to cut parent material out of the thread. AG

Stumbled across your channel a couple nights ago and love the content. You obviously know your stuff and, as someone currently sprucing up a 350 planted in a 73 Jaguar, any and all help is appreciated.

Craftsman thread restore/chaser kit, one of the best tools I've ever bought. For working on older cars and motors work cleaning and fixing threads is the norm. So easy with these kits.

I use the bolt thread chaser thing also. I also take all the cleaned head bolts and run them in every bolt hole to make sure the bolt chaser bolt did well enough. A riffle brush helps prior helps the chaser bolt getting some of the corrosion and crud out first it's easier on threads hard on the brush. Thanks for the tips always get a new one. I have reused oil pumps there almost always good.

You said you wanted a different type of KZfaq channel with real information yet you completely skipped showing the crank install. Such a great opportunity to have a real channel that people want and need and once again it’s been reduced down to a conversation.

Thanks for your comment Michael. Sounds like I owe you an apology. What happens is sometime I have to get work done and no one is around to help me video. I did demonstrate the rod bearing clearancing and the main bearing clearance is the same procedure. I will try to correct this on future videos and nice to know that you would value this information. @@goldsgarage8236 made a jerk comment to you and I regret that. I am sorry about that comment. I was so excited to see the actual installation I got pretty mad and it was uncalled for. I should have been more polite and I sincerely apologize. Thanks for the videos.

Hi...Cant seem to find Permatex thread sealer in that size container...just in a 50ml tube and not sure if its the same product as you use in your vides...What is the product # on the container? By the way, your videos are so well done...You explain things in detail including "Why" and "Why Nots" of assembly.... and disassembly for that matter.

Well done, curious if you were using the hex adjust gear again, if so install the cam at 112 deg. then run a couple of dyno pulls, then advance it 4 to 108 deg., then again 4 deg. to 104 deg. where everyone thinks it should be anyway (LOL), I believe you'll see different numbers than you saw on the 400 going from 4 to 8 deg. advance, which was kind of disappointing because of the large cu. in. and small cam, just my .02 worth. Keep up the good work.👍

Thanks for the suggestion Mark. We should think about that. This Crower cam is already 104 ICL. I agree with your assessment of the 400 results on the dyno. We will keep digging if you keep watching and commenting. AG

I have a project going, we'll, they never stop. Lol . Anyway, My mind set is much like yours. I prefer to do anything I can myself. If I mess up, it's my mistake. How ever, I'm no machinist. I live in Ohio, not to far from Canada. I'm from Atlanta, and I'm having 1 heck of troublesome time finding an automotive machine shop. I'm willing to make a drive, I do not care about travel. Do you have any recommendations for a shop to simply deck my sbc vortec heads an do a 3 angle valve job. No one in my area, or any of my contacts are of NO HELP. No worries if not. Just reaching out to yet another avenue. Thanks in advance. And thanks for sharing your knowledge..!

@@goldsgarage8236 Thank you for the response. I'm from Atlanta, an don't have any contacts here in Ohio. Driving around and talking to people about this project and trying to find someone who simply does automotive machine work, has been a huge waste of time at this point. As always I dig your video's and real world tutorials. Thanks for all you do !!!

Love this stuff! Great video! 375 hp for $2000 is pretty good! Obviously using oem cast heads & assuming it's from 350 ci? U said it's a standard bore, are you leaving it a standard bore??
@goldsgarage8236
@goldsgarage8236 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jesse. Yes, Mike hand honed the bore with 220 Grit, then 400 grit stone. The bore was worn about .001". We also used the original forged pistons, except we had to replace one of them. Watch the dyno video to see haw we did. It is now rescheduled to Aug 5. We hope to video the first start tomorrow. AG

Thanks for the question Bos-G-State. The bearings are King, sold under the Summit name. Mike's crank was turned .020", looks like yours was also. The mains are SUM-172020 and the rods are Sum-17120. The last 2 numbers are always the undersize. Hope this helps AG
