Have the same air compressor that I used to paint my first car project. Used a LVLP 1.4 tip ebay special, 95 psi output from the air compressor and 20 psi paint gun output. Worked great!!!!

That worked for primer, base, and clear?
@getnanoed
@getnanoed Жыл бұрын
@@cjcarpenter8366 yes with little issues. I was painting sections at a time as I wait for the compressor to charge back full. Gotta paint slow and take your time. If you are painting a large suv truck or van then you might want 2 of these compressors. I painted a small subaru 2 door car.

Nice setup, sounds very quiet. If there is still vibration in the house, try adding rubber mat underneath. I have the Kobalt 80 gallon bolted to the ground with 3/4" rubber mat between it and the concrete. Removed the vibration to the concrete. Just a thought.

Thanks Jeremy. The rubber mat isn’t a bad idea. I may put it on one just for good measure. 👍

I hesitated on buying this at lowes the other day.. my use for it would be to paint my little crx.. and do some sand blasting tires and maybe a sir impact. After seeing the 4.5scfm at 90 psi I was thinking it wouldn't work and I need a 60 gallon do to the gun I have says 14.5 at 40 psi.. good to know u can get a cheap gun that will work with this compressor... might have to go scoop 300 for a 26 gallon is crazy cheap

if memory serves me correct. At the back of the new Air compressor is the exaust. you'll see a small hole and if you put a small hose that fits that hole will cut the noise another 10%. and the hose only needs to be about 4 inches long. try it you'll hear the difference
@greifill
@greifill 4 жыл бұрын
Sweet setup! I still haven't settled on what spray gun to buy yet. My 60gal. compressor is about 90 decibel but it builds up moisture fast. A small amount of oil is also getting into the hose and eventually to the air tools. Air being compressed heats up and that creates moisture. And the temperature here in South Texas doesn't help either.
@GreaseRookie
@GreaseRookie 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Gudmundur. Didn’t realize you were in TX. I’ve been there for work many times. The farthest south I’ve been is Sanderson. We’ll see how this compressor set up does for me. I haven’t even run it enough to test the filter/ dryer system. Hopefully it works out alright.

Compressor looks good, but you didn't mention the most important part; what mask setup are you using and where are you spraying the car? If you're doing it in that garage, you'll need a serious fan setup and ideally an air-fed mask. If it's outdoors, then 3M make a filter mask that they confirmed to me will deal with isocyanates, but the removable filter will likely be only good for a couple of cars. I don't remember the model number but you'll want to call 3M anyway and explain your setup, usage and see what the filter can handle on your paint's MSDS sheet. Cost of the mask I was looking at was around $450 AUD, so likely half that in USD. PLEASE don't get suckered into the videos of dudes spraying in a garage with just a plain mask and saying "she'll be right mate", the fact that they haven't suffered any repercussions from doing so doesn't mean you won't. Research the chemicals you're dealing with and the setup needed to accommodate them, because people have died from spraying nitrocellulose as well as isocyanates, and the symptoms don't always occur immediately. It's no joke. You'll probably want to spray 2 pack too, since it's physically much harder than a single stage paint. There exists an iso-free 2 pack paint, it's apparently harder to spray, costs more and is more limited in colours, but it exists. Used mostly in the furniture industry. At a minimum, you'll want to cover EVERYTHING in plastic, wet the floor, wear a full suit, have really good fan ventilation and a mask that is rated for whatever you're using (no cheap masks, spend what you have to from a legitimate vendor like 3M), which seals to your face and covers your eyes. Chemicals can enter from the eyes very easily., Kids, dogs, spouses, etc don't go in that booth until everything is done, the plastic is gone and it has been cleaned out. I hate to be the "omg safety please" guy, it's not like I don't do things in my own garage that would fail an OH&S assessment, but the chemicals involved with spray painting have to be taken deadly seriously.

You’ve given me a lot to think about and I certainly appreciate your concern. My house is small and the garage is attached, so fumes have already been a concern of mine. I have a few locations as options to spray, but I haven’t made a decision. If I chose to use the garage, it would likely be with the door open and a bigger industrial fan moving air. I plan on getting a better respirator system as well. Thanks again for all the advice.

I've been trying to decide between the kobalt and dewalt... for $150 more you get a small amount of more cfm's with the dewalt, and it's louder... I think I'll go with the kobalt. Great review!

Update: I will not be using this spray gun. I took it apart to clean it before the first use, changed the tip out, and after reassembly it had an air leak. It may have been an error on my part, but I’m still opting to use a different gun with this compressor. I’ll cover the new gun in the follow up video.

I know you already have Joe Daddy and others to help you but I'm along for the ride here so I'll pipe in. I not a newbie but in some things I am. Just cut a vid today on my Civic project that got paint yesterday check it out if you want it's very short. Everything that could go wrong did but I have paint on the Honda and I think I can salvage what I've got. The blocking seemed good except a spot I missed on a brand new hood that is low. I try to turn on the camera more and I watch all your vids keep up the good work. Thought of a color yet? Or factory because it's a 'resto'-mod?
