Of all there was to unpack here, do you see now why I kept sticking up for Buffy’s army? Never once called the “Potentials”, they’re slayerettes now. Slayer-lights, Diet Slayers. A lot fell, and yeah, the cute one died (she was my favourite to) but she needed all of them. But I could only say so much with letting the cat out of the bag! And that one scene, where all the potentials activate; young girls around the world, finding within themselves that they had real strength (real power) hidden deep inside themselves the whole time.. Whether to it’s to step up to the plate to knock one out of the park, or stand up for themselves & never face abuse ever again; to overcome every fear, every doubt, to become literal goddesses that walk this earth... That scene taught me everything I needed to know about the very best of what feminism can be. It did kinda sting to come to learn it was all so much “lies (my) parents told me” all these years later. But that moment holds true just the same. I promised you bud, “I’m going to see how this ends”. There’s no words for goodbye in the Cree Native Canadian Culture, no such thing in my culture. “Safe Travels” you’ll see me around again. Even if you notice I’ve completely disappeared some day (it’s not like any of us are getting any younger, right?), mysteriously so in fact.. I’m sure you’ll see me around, this world or the next, ya? Hey.. there was a reason it was nice taking this tour again for the first time meant so much to me. Don’t make a big deal of it okay? Going anywhere any time soon isn’t exactly Plan A. Just saying, you made this old man laugh & smile & even cry at times. You even kept me sane when going crazy just seemed like the logical thing to do. And all I could do is say thank you. Maybe this will explain a little more as to why. Again, don’t worry about it; happens to the best of us eventually. Until next time.

But at the end, she was surprised to find he truly did, even finally accept she did too. Just not that way. I’m not unfamiliar with unrequited love. There is always going to be the one that got away. Worse, I I actually got her; had to let her go even knowing she’ll always be the love of my life. She knows that too. In time, she came to understand I wasn’t what she needed me to be, not when she needed me to be it. Unlike spike, there was no one I can go to to make bargains with. When I first saw the finale I thought Anya got a raw deal. On reflection, she has already lived so many lifetimes. @locomadman 3 жыл бұрын
“So you all face a choice. These are the rules, as set by men, a very long time ago, and this woman here-“, (Points to a very nervous looking Willow) “...had more power than all of them combined. So, are we finishing this right here, right now, are are we going to let the bad guys win?” She realized the ultimate decision was up to them, that they didn’t have to wait to be chosen or not chosen. They had to make that choice for themselves, because changing their minds after wasn’t an option, they were either all in or they were out.. ...But she realized she needed every one of them to make things work... ....then later when she’s willing to pass on the torch to faith when she’s near fatally wounded.... ...and finally, when she prepared to let others make the final sacrifice instead of taking it for herself.... That’s the moment when she completed her character arch, going from scared, insecure 16-year old girl child, to Major General of an army, leader amongst mankind... It was perhaps 100% pure fan service. And this was two years after we got the arguably better season 5 ending in “The Gift”. Were you there for that brief period when we know season 5 was wrapping up for series finale, but before it had been picked up on UPN? That was absolutely the worst, my heart literally skipped whole beats when I found out more Buffy was coming, that it wasn’t the end. It gave me time to be prepared when it was time to actually let it go. I loved & cherished 6 seasons of Buffy. And I even tolerate Season 1! But I would have missed a moment of it for the world. Or maybe I would, if that was what was required: Buffy taught me that too! It was everything I needed it to be any exactly the right time. Obviously, I still love this show.

This show has so much heart, even the bad episodes had something to offer. I think my friends and family thought I would eventually move on. I would stop talking about it. I think some of them get a little annoyed that I still talk about it like I do 18 years on, but this show is worth it. There is so much still left to talk about. @@luciddreams7540 it’s funny, but believe it or not there’s actually some debate going on about that; whether it’s “sharing a gift that is their birthright” or “forcing burden & responsibility on others”. Now I know what side of the debate I lean towards, but I can’t out-right dismiss the other side of the debate either. It’s a compelling argument. Yet the Buffy had to make that hard call . And she asked the potentials she had following her what they thought. It was a “white elephant”; both a great gift & terrible burden simultaneously. But that’s why she’s major general making decisions for her army for the betterment of the world. I’ll have to get back to her. One question I have that never was answered; why aren’t there 3 slayers considering she died 2 times???

@@locomadman Wow. I haven't read the comics so I don't feel informed enough to say anything definitive on that debate. I do feel the finale's message is meant to be uncomplicated in the show, though. We've seen fellow heroes be corrupted by power (Willow) and use it to destroy (Faith), so it's inspiring that Buffy chooses to share hers. But it definitely can complicate lives. On the 3 slayers thing, think everyone just assumed the slayer line logic considers Buffy deceased, and only Faith's death could activate the next one.

To speak to the Cordelia-erasure. Originally in the Angel-Buffy scene, Angel was going to catch Buffy up on his life - tell her he's now in love with Cordelia (would have loved to see Buffy's reaction to that) & that he now has a son. They decided to cut this because this was the BUFFY series finale. So they focused on Buffy's perspective, vulnerability & closure rather than Angel's (since we've got another season of his story.)

There’s a lot of opinions about whether or not “The Gift” (5x22) was a better finale than “Chosen”. I believe that, though “the gift” was a perfect finale... thematically “Chosen” is the perfect end and it was a privilege getting to see Buffy continue to grow as a person, a slayer and a leader for 2 more seasons. Liam, saw your reaction on Patron and it brought me back to the first time I saw it, thank you for allowing me to relive my favorite show through your eyes.

I feel like buffy finding it so hard to kill the Uber vamps at first was a reflection of how she was feeling inside at the time , hoplesss , outnumbered and like there was no way of winning but once she started to believe in herself it became easier to kill one until she could do it without any trouble. I might be reading too much into it but I feel like it’s a metaphor saying that when we feel like something is hopeless or pointless or completely impossible, the only thing that makes it impossible is ourselves and we have the power to rise up and make our impossibilities possible 🥰

What you were feeling there was real, but it’s more a reflection of not just understanding her own capabilities, which she had, faced death itself to earn the right. Rather, it was the full weight of having to be truly responsible for others; not just the Scoobies, they were volunteers. The rest were drafted. Whole new ball game, next-next level, ya know?

@locomadman

Spike’s death... was necessary to complete Buffy’s character arch. Good soldiers fall in every war, but Generals are needed to be the leaders the truly are. She needed to learn to accept someone else making the final sacrifice so that others may live. And Spike, well... there was an objective to accomplish, and he felt that he needed to atone for all he’s done. (He wasn’t exactly wrong, was he?) Anya; Joss admitted he felt guilty, and would change it if he could. But I think the girl who was so afraid to get old & die after a broken heart, that she became demonic to begin with, ultimately gave his life after finally regaining that humanity? It was... poignant. Not strictly necessary, but it meant so much!

See you soon! It’s been a pleasure watching you react to my favourite tv show. You did say in the reaction “it’s a bit vague” during one scene. To quote Joss, “And to me it's almost the most important shot in the show. Because it really shows the mystery of their relationship, and that's one where I wanted the audience to fill in the blank. I wanted whatever you want to have happened, to have happened. If people believe, that on their last night together, they made love great. If they believe, that on their last night together, they talked all night, great; if they believe, they had a fight, great; whatever it is, it's up to the viewer. And I think the viewer has earned that, and I love that elliptical nature, of their last night together. I think there should be work for the viewer to do, in that sense emotionally, I think that makes it more textured, and that shot of the two of them, looking at each other, I just find that beautiful”

The "I love you" was in the hellmouth and the "Spike" was when Giles asked who did this ❤ Cassie told Spike that she will tell you.. - Spike has now knocked over "welcome to Sunnydale" sign 3 times lol "Schools Hard", "Lovers Walk" and then the series finale. 3rd time was the charm lol. - Also this was the 3rd time that Buffy has helped in destroying a high school, lol. 1st time was when she burned down the gym at her old high school in L.A, 2nd time was when she blew up the school with the mayor at graduation and then again with the finale, lol.

When Angel says, “Everyone has a soul..... you know, I started it!” That has always bothered me because, Spike went looking for his soul! Angelius was cursed with his! Never once, when he was Angelius, did he go looking for his soul! I’m sorry but, in my opinion, as much as I LOVE Angel........... Spike is the better man! Because, he fell in love with Buffy, when he was still evil/soulless! So much so, that he went and fought like crazy, to get it back! Whereas, Angelius ran from his soul! He hated the part of himself, that was Angel! So, sorry not sorry, but Spike is the better man! I’d love to hear other people’s opinions on this topic. If y’all agree or disagree with me, please respond to my comment, and tell me why you do or why you don’t! Thanks everyone! And, thank you, Liam! Your love clearly shows! Awesome to find people so passionate still. So please don’t take this the wrong way; as much as Spike fought for what he so rightfully earned, he was a monster that went bump in the night that made a deal with a devil because he was butthurt like a rejected lover (and honestly, if you ever meet Marsters in real tread real lightly on this as it really f****d him up) because he went too far & could see they were toxic for each other at that time... And wasn’t clear what he was asking for. He didn’t know he was getting his soul. His heart’s desire was to be the sort of man she needed, (which incidentally was what she wanted & deserved). Ergo; soul. It doesn’t undermine how hard he fought for it. And it makes the struggle of dealing with the consequences after even more impressive. But balance that with the knowledge that he was a soulless creature willing to do anything to get back at the one who hurt him. (And really, met the man; hearing him share that with me... Christ, it almost tore my heart right out of my chest & screwed me up a little too.) From one fan to another, thanks for you tribute here however. Keep the fandom alive, respect.

I’ve seen and read interviews with James, about he hard that scene was for him to film- which shows me, that he is not only an amazing actor but, just an amazing human! I mean- truly a wonderful man! So, I definitely respect and accept your response! Especially considering, you’re taking what the actor himself, had to say about his character. Thank you for sharing that with me! I cried when Anya died, possibly more watching this reaction than I did the first time around. I can only think of one thing that would have made the ending better - if the backing music just before they went into battle had been "Walk Through the Fire" from "Once More, With Feeling". There are only a few shows that have defined my life. Babylon 5, Sense8, and Buffy. It's really hard to pick which is the best, the most impactful, or the most amazing. But knowing Buffy the Vampire Slayer has changed my life for the better.

I figured of the Uber vamp, the one that got out was able to get out because he was one of the strongest

He also fed before fighting with Buffy whereas all the ubervamps in this episode hadn’t.

I never read the Wood death fakeout as deliberate on his part. I've always interpreted his gasping back to life as much of a surprise to him as it was to Faith. To me, he doesn't seem to fake his own death, but rather seizes the opportunity to show Faith something genuinely unexpected, for both of them.

Loved this journey for you. Thanks for wonderful, and thoughtful Buffy reactions & commentary. Also - while Anya's death makes me sad because I love her, I do think she died very "Anya"-like. Quick and blunt. If that makes sense. Quick and blunt is very Anya :)
