The early 60's is an interesting era for Looney Tunes. It has such a distinct art direction. One of the many things I LOVE about Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies, is being able to spot which era the short came from. At this point, Chuck Jones had a lot of influence on Looney Tunes. This short has his style and flare written all over it. I believe this was one of the last shorts to be released theatrically, before they went syndicated for television, along with the diminished production budget and quality, sadly.

Same with Tom and Jerry, my favourite eras being the first cinematic era and the Chuck Jones era.
@Poever

What happened specifically was the original studio shut down in 1964, and because the shorts were still popular, Warner Bros. commissioned Freleng-DePatie to make new Looney Tunes shorts. Those are the ones that predominantly starred Daffy Duck, Speedy Gonzales, Roadrunner and Coyote, and not many others. They were so garbage, they weren’t even allowed to use Bugs Bunny
@WillCWilson
@WillCWilson 2 жыл бұрын
@@Poever And then in 1967, Format Films [the company that animated The Alvin Show] took over entirely, and eventually Daffy and Speedy got phased out, and completely new characters [Bunny and Clyde, Merlin the Magic Mouse, and Cool Cat] were introduced. This lasted until 1969, when the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies theatrical series pretty much ENDED in September of that year.

Snoopy "almost drowns", but then wakes up. I wish that they would show some more of the 80s Peanuts specials like this one. With the Peanuts now on Apple TV, I guess the streaming service will eventually "put up" some more of these specials.

For 10 years I worked for Chuck Jones' family, dealing with the artwork. I can say that seeing and handling both Maurice and Philips layouts, prelim and final artwork was a treat in and unto itself. Those two (even though the style is different) are in my opinion as great or greater than one of the greatest, Eyvind Earle. Maurice Noble's artwork for The Phantom Tollbooth is out of this world. Highly recommend it just for the artwork.

@glowworm2
@glowworm2 3 жыл бұрын
There's this weird reverse gag done in Bugs Bunny's Howl-oween Special from 1977--which is basically edited footage from various spooky Looney Tunes shorts (and very poorly done, I might add) revolving around Bugs Bunny and Witch Hazel. Near the end of the special, Witch Hazel drinks Hyde juice and transforms into Count Bloodcount. This is where things get weird. We have footage of Bugs facing the Count, but because it's technically Hazel, we have her speaking the lines from the short in her voice! Of course the slightly clever bit is using the cameo part to transform the Count back into Hazel.
@kylemorello4787
@kylemorello4787 3 жыл бұрын
@@glowworm2 that was my first Looney Tunes compilation "story". I don't like it as much as Daffy Duck Quackbusters, because that one had a more coherent story, as well as editing (though the elderly voice acting from Mel Blanc does show when this was made apart from the other shorts). And I do like that they included most of the good parts from the shorts they showed (except for the tiny elephant confusing circus animals). But I did think that transition from Bloodcount to Hazel was a pretty clever.

To Heck And Back disturbed me too. I kind of question whether Rocko's Modern Life was meant for kids, though. If there's one thing this series proves, it's that pretty much any depiction of Hell in a cartoon is very threatening & intense for children.

0:50 I clicked video just to comment a fun fact about this cartoon, but I can tell by Doug's shirt he already knew! I was so happy when I watched this cartoon and realized it was used in one of their songs. Almost 20 years later, and they are still my favorite band! (And yes, I noticed the shirt change right away)

Yep. Eventually in the later shorts though, other voice actors finally got their name in the credits as well. "Three Little Bops" was one of the few Looney Tunes shorts in which somebody other than Mel Blanc got their name mentioned in the opening credits--in this case, Stan Freberg, who until then, was usually uncredited.

This is one of my all time favourite Bugs Bunny cartoons. Back in primary school I always used to quote the “Hocus Pocus, Abracadabra” lines much to my peers amusement. You can’t help but laugh out loud when the Vampire keeps changing appearance every time Bugs says a magic line😂😂.
